I can vouch for Paint.NET, it is a very good free program that I have used many a time, some certain effects are quicker and easier to achieve using this than using Photoshop (CS2), however, Paintshop Pro and Fireworks I absolutely detest, and think the best place to start would be the free trial of Adobe Photoshop, and to grab The Gimp and/or Paint.NEt, as both are very good. I recommend Photoshop trial because it is the program with the most support when it comes to tutorials, and you can spend your 30 days of trial blazing through tutorials, and can then use your knowledge of techniques and tools, finding the similar tools in Paint.Net and The Gimp, which basically have either very similar or identical tools to Photoshop, and use all the knowledge you learnt through Photoshop in these porgrams. |
