I thought seeing as Cladera made the MGS4 FAQ why not make one for MPO as there seems to be similar confusion about the details.

Everything that reads here is OFFICIAL information, none of the following information is disputed, or in theory form! (Unless mentioned otherwise). If anybody wishes to question the information here please PM me!

IV. Storyline:

Wikipedia.org

Six years after the events of "Operation: Snake Eater", portrayed in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Naked Snake's former team, FOX Unit, has broken their allegiance with the CIA. Snake himself is also targeted by the FOX Unit, who attacks and captures him. The game begins with Snake being tortured and interrogated by one of the members of FOX, Liutenant Cunningham, who's trying to locate the whereabouts of the missing half of the Philosopher's Legacy, with the United States Government having already acquired the other half of the Legacy from the Soviet Union at the conclusion of Snake Eater. Snake is imprisoned in a cell next to Roy Campbell, the sole survivor of an American Green Beret team sent in to investigate the base. Snake learns through Roy that they're on the San Hieronymo Peninsula, the site of an abandoned Soviet missile silo in Colombia.

The two escape and Snake makes his way to a communications base, where he attempts to contact his old CO, Major Zero. Instead, he is greeted by his old FOX comrades Para-Medic and Sigint, who reveal that Snake and Zero are being accused of instigating the revolt and that the only way for Snake to clear their name is to find and apprehend the leader of the rebellion, Gene. To complicate matters, Gene has also convinced several of the Russian soldiers stationed on the base to join their side by simply taking over the chain of command of a former Red Army unit, that was secretly stationed inside the Colombian territory. In order to complete his mission, Snake must persuade enemy soldiers to join his ranks.

Snake and his squad defeat the top members of the FOX unit and eventually they make their way into Gene's guesthouse. Snake learns many things on his way. Cunningham was working for the Pentagon and wanted Snake to push Gene into launching a nuke to Russia to prolong the Cold War (so the Pentagon could keep their importance). Gene was actually aware of this plan the whole time from information from Ocelot. Gene really wanted to launch a nuke at America to destroy the Philosophers and to make his nation of soldiers, "Army's Heaven". Snake destroys an experimental model of Metal Gear codenamed RAXA and eventually defeats Gene, destroying the real Metal Gear itself as well afterwards. After Gene is defeated he gives Big Boss the funds, equipments, personal, and all other information of Army's Heaven. On his return home, Snake is awarded for his actions and establishes FOXHOUND afterwards. In the end it is revealed Ocelot kills the DCI and takes the Philosophers documents to end them. He, Big Boss, and an unknown man form the Patriots in their place. Ocelot actually wanted the trajectory data of the nuke to point to the DCI so he would bring the documents right to him.

IV. Characters:

In no particular order...
Descriptions are those available from the official site if not stated otherwise

Roy Campbell:

Posted Image

Official Site

The last remaining survivor of a Green Berets mission in the San Hieronymo Peninsula, Campbell encounters the legendary soldier, Big Boss. Together, the two hatch a plan to advert World War III by directly engaging the rebellious FOX Unit.

Snake/Big Boss/Naked Snake:

Posted Image Posted Image

Official Site

Known in the military world as Big Boss, Naked Snake finds himself in a South American Prison. Surrounded by a bloody revolt led by his former unit FOX, Snake embarks on an impossible mission -- recruit the disgruntled Soviet soldiers in Columbia and lead an uprising against the nuclear-armed FOX unit.

Ocelot/Revolver Ocelot/Shalashaska:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

Ocelot plays a minor (in the sense that he appears very briefly), but important role in the story. He is Gene's telephone contact and near the end of the game, he assassinates the successor to his former employer from Snake Eater, the DCI.
Ocelot can be recruited into Snake's unit during gameplay by contacting a specific frequency number near the end of the game. After contacting him, he will appear as part of the player's team during the next playthrough. This, however, does not affect the plot in anyway.

Major Zero:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

In Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, he and Snake are blamed for the FOX unit's revolt and Zero is kept in captivity in a military prison accused of treason. He is exonerated from the charges later on, and greets Snake on his return home. He can be recruited into the player's squad during subsequent playthrough if the player has a save data of Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel in their memory stick or by a password at the Recruit menu. In his career stats it is revealed that he has been a politician, quarterback, rescuer and deliveryman throughout his life.

Null:

Posted Image

Official Site

Known only as the perfect soldier, this young man was project initiated by the CIA to create the ultimate warrior. Incapable of experiencing emotions or doubts. He was raised in the labe for one purpose: Accomplish the mission.

Python:

Posted Image

Official Site

A former comrade of Snake, Python was pronounced dead during a mission ten years ago in Vietnam. With his body unable to regulate its temperature, Python was encased in a liquid-nitrogen filled suit thus prolonging his life.

Cunningham:

Posted Image

Official Site

FOX Unit’s interrogation specialist and former CIA lieutenant, Cunningham has but one mission – capture Snake and extract the location of the missing half of the Philosophers’ Legacy.

Gene:

Posted Image

Official Site

A graduate of the Successor Project, Gene was a top-secret government experiment designed to create the ultimate battlefield commander. Now the leader of the FOX Unit, Gene has seceded from the U.S. and now threatens to turn the Cold War into a blazing hot one.

Ursula/Elisa:

Posted Image Posted Image

Official Site

Born with exceptional abilities in ESP, Ursula and her sister were captured by the communists to be moulded into valuable weapons in the Cold War. Rescued by Gene, the sisters committed their lives to his ambitious plans of creating a nation not of soldiers, but for them.

Metal Gear RAXA:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

Chronologically, it is the first Metal Gear prototype ever built, having been developed by the U.S. government in 1970. Its design, completed by Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov, is based on the original blueprints created by Aleksandr Leonovitch Granin. The head itself has a strong resemblance with the one from Metal Gear REX, the model from Metal Gear Solid. It has four legs (merely a step towards bipedalism -- which was an impossibility with the technology available at the time). Its nuclear function is to act as a mobile launching device for MIRVs. While therefore capable of making nuclear strikes against several targets at once, its range is limited, and unlike the Shagohod, is unable to compensate for it with speed. Thus, it must be physically transported to a point within range of the target(s) first. This is accomplished by having the Metal Gear unit itself attached to the top of a rocket, launching it, detaching the unit at 3000 ft above the intended landing point, and having it parachute back down to the ground, launching its nuclear payload afterwards.

Side Characters:

Major Ivan Raidenovitch Raikov:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

Raikov returns in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops in a side mission. His men put him in a cell in the Western Wilderness when they join Gene in retaliation for Raikov beating them. He was transferred to the base in Colombia by his superiors after Volgin's death. By fulfilling a side-mission, Snake rescues him and Roy manages to convince him to join them since he would be considered a hero for stopping a nuclear launch and would be promoted. In the game it is revealed that he has been an artist and an athlete in his career outside the Soviet Army.

Paramedic:

Quote:

She is a recruitable character in the single player campaign.

Sigint:

Quote:

He is a recruitable character in the single player campaign.

Eva:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

After Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, EVA is presumed dead, after disappearing in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1968. She appears in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops as a recruitable character by completing a side-mission. Later on, it is revealed that she was fired by PLA Intelligence after giving them a fake microfilm she thought was the Philosopher's Legacy. She escaped from China before they could kill her and became a freelance pilot/deliverywoman. She is also inside the magazine
in-game as the centerfold.

Ghost/Sokolov:

Posted Image

Wikipedia.org

It is revealed that he survived and was put in a prison camp in Russia, but Gene rescued him and helped him defect to the United States to see his family. He joined Gene's research team in which he designed Metal Gear. He provides information to Snake as an anonymous informant named "Ghost". Sokolov can be recruited into the player's squad by fulfilling a side-mission near the end of the game.

Capture 200 guards before beating the game. It does not have to be in one playthrough.

Password: ERBE

Ursula:

Beat the game with a level 80 or higher medic.

Password: PK+ESP

Major Zero:

Password: 1+2-3

Teliko:

Have spies in the Guest House. You will get a report about a strangely dressed woman who appears to be armed. Go in there and subdue her. Alternatively, have a Metal Gear Ac!d game save on your PSP memory card when starting up the game for the second time.

Password: T.F-ACID

Venus:

Have a Metal Gear Ac!d 2 game save on your PSP memory card when starting up the game for the second time.

Password: MGA2VE

Sokolov:

"I'm at the end of the game (the last battle with Gene left unaccomplished)

1. Go to the power plant and integrate the soldier inside the building where you blew up that power thing to open the silo door. There are two of them inside. Try both. One will give you the Codec frequency.

2. Go to Nuclear Silo Entrance and go to the "X" mark on the right near the locked house. Campbell will contact you. Use the Codec number you got from the guard to unlock the door. Inside their are documents Sokolov wanted. Go back to the mission screen.

3. You should have spies in Plant. They will leave the report about some stranger in the plant. Its Sokolov. Go in the main hangar where you fought Metal gear and up the ladder to the little booth upstairs. he's inside."
Another thing:

"Be at least before the final fight. Have full spies at Silo Entrance. Go to the area called Silo Entrance. Find the X on the map. You will receive a call from Campbell. He will inform you about a frequency to open a door. Interrogate the first guard you see near there. He will mention a friend with a frequency at the Power Substation. Interrogate one of the men there, and you will get the frequency "145.61". Head back to the Silo Entrance. Call that frequency to open the door. You will then receive an item called "Blueprints". Once you return to the mission select menu, if you have spies at the plant, you should receive information that there is a "suspicious person sighted". Sokolov will be found up a ramp and into the room where you faced a boss previously. He will be hidden in the top floor in a room."
Or, the really friggen easy way:

Password: SATURNV

Eva:

"After following Solid Sephiroths guide to getting Sokolov.

Went back into the Silo entrance and interegated the officer on top of the walkway. He mentions a man twirling revolvers in an urban area.

I then get a report of a high ranking officer in town. I go interegate the officer and he talks about the airport.

Go to the airport all the way to the top near the control room interegate the guy their. He talks about the locker.

Go to the security base to the locker that's been talked about before. He'll mention that he sees it.

Abort the mission and go the comm base where you talked to Signit/Paramedic and you'll contact her.

She says she'll come in about a week, she showed up in 6 1/2 days. Go to the top of the control tower again and she'll mention getting shot down.

A report will come up in the western wilderness and she will be in the prison where Raikov was.

Some notes, I believe this is also connect on how to get Ocelot. There's another person you have to investigate in the guest house and another prisoner in the wilderness but it looks like a dead end for now."
Password: E.APPLE

Ocelot

While getting the Sokolov/Eva there will be some more missions have spies in at least the Silo Entrance, the town, the western wilderness, the airport, the guest house, maybe the Ravine. I did all those and then went to the Ravine. Campbell will message you telling you to message 141.23. Take out all the guards then find the key to the tower on the second level in the canyons. Unlock the door and go to the X on the map. Ocelot will contact you and say he'll think about it.

Beat the game. Start a new game. Save. Quit the game. Reload the game. New soldier found. Ocelot ends up in your lineup.

I'm pretty sure the airport guy told me about Eva but I can't remember 100%. Either Eva or Ocelot you will more than likely have to talk to him to unlock one of them.

After hearing about the locker you go there and a small cutscene will happen. Then go to the comm base on the map. There will be the goal marked there where you contacted Signit and Paramedic. You will talk to her and she says she'll be there in a week.

Go to the airport and abort mission, keep doing that until Campbell contacts you telling you to hurry up to the tower. I don't believe the spies will tell you when to go I had 4 there and they didn't tell me to go there."

Yeah, well I was 3 days late for the preordering. I hope it isn't going to be sold out in my local game store before I get there.

By the way, is it possible to get the limited edition without ordering one from online shop?

there is no limited edition, unless you mean with the case and you can only prorder it to get it. Or do you mean that one that has the camo skin and comes in this big box and has all MPO stuff?
