Okay, since there is indeed a lot of useful guides and information out there for MPO, this thread will be the place to post them. Simply post here and a Moderator will assess whether or not it is useful enough for this thread – if so, we will edit it into the initial post (this one). If you know of any guides or comprehensive information – please post it here. See what has already been posted here in the 'Table of Content' below.

Please note: We will now accept guides which contain spoilers.

1. EU Version Differences

Armanelot - GameSpot forums

~Amanelot’s EU Version Differences *Mini* FAQ~

1. Differences

The differences in the EU version includes;

2 new online maps, The ravine and Western Wilderness.

2 new careers; Stuntman and Bait (further explained later)

12 EU flag/camo soldiers. The Japanese camo’s were removed and replaced with these.

A new mode is available called Boss Rush. Basically its all the bosses one after another without any chance to heal or get new items. Beating this mode will also yield a new Unique (Gene).

Hacks are no longer a problem on the EU version. Any kind of hack (stat or skin) that is brought into a game automatically reverts to 1hp/1stm all C’s and no careers.

Strangely the GPS feature in the NA version has disappeared from the EU version. Reason are unknown but it is speculated that Sony has decided to scratch the GPS all together

There are extra pictures during briefings, the cut scenes have been touched up, aiming has been improved and little things such as being able to shoot through wire fences. There are also new “Reports” that allow you to do things such as recruit Mag/Chaff soldiers. These little things really do improve the overall game.

. Frequently Asked Questions

1.What is included in extreme mode that isn't in normal or easy?

In extreme mode there are now cameras and gaurd dogs (hospital). The only other things that change are the difficulty of the bosses (supposedly) and the soldiers you recruit have all around higher stats. I do not think that chances of getting chaff/mag/gako soldiers increase, it just that every one has higher stats overall. Stunning enemies takes longer and the Mk22 is more area sensitive as to where it hits and how long it will take for them to be stunned. Enemies also recover from being stunned quicker then the other modes.

2. Anyone know what the keyword is for under the Enter Password screen? Mines seems to be U72D.

http://jpn00.konami.co.jp/products/mpo_pass/pass.php

The keyword is used at the website above. You insert the keyword and some other info and it will generate a password to recruit a soldier. Unfortunately it does not work for the EU/NA versions of the game. Only the Japanese version.

3. Why won’t the cheats posted work on my EU/PAL version of the game?

The cheats you are entering are for the NA version of the game. They will not work with the EU version. The only code known at the time is Sokolov = Vostok. The only way to get the other uniques is through completion. (Ga-ko is the only exception, he is the only one who can be attained only through passwords)

4. What does Bait and Stuntman do?

Bait / Makes strong enemies appear more often.
Stuntman / Quick recovery from knockouts.

5. Where can I find pics of the new Euro Camo’s?

6. Can you give me tips on beating Boss Rush?

The shotgun is your best friend. Bring a shotgun for every boss except Raxa and Cunningham. RPG-7 for raxa and M-63 for Cunningham. Other than that it just takes practice and a little bit of luck

7. How can I recruit Roy on the EU version?

You can not recruit Roy, ever. This is a fact. The only way to obtain Roy is by skin hacking. The easiest way to tell that Roy is not even supposed to be a playable character is that he makes no noise. Not when he is shot or dies.

8. I recruited 200+ soldier and I still did not get Gene. Help???

You wasted 30 hours of you life. Gene can only be obtained through Boss Rush

I have edited this slightly, but not enough to pass it off as my own work, so thanks go to Armanelot from the GameSpot MPO Forum.

2. Guide to Recruiting Excellent Soldiers

Biscuit - GameSpot MPO Forums

NOTE: This is on Extreme

As soon as you complete the report about FOX recruits at the Security Base, stronger FOX soldiers will begin appear.

You're going to need a soldier with the Bait job. This job makes stronger enemies appear more often. Bait is not a common job. You probably won't have more than a handful of them. It would be helpful to have the Stealth Camouflage also, although it is not needed (though it is strongly recommended to make things very quick and easy).

Now that you have found some Bait soldiers, put them in one of your Sneaking Unit teams (Alpha, Bravo... etc.) I'm not sure if it affects the results at all, but I use an entire team of Baits, although one may work just as well.

Put the Bait soldier with the best handgun stat, at the top of the unit. He is the only one you'll use so equip him with an MK22 and Stealth and you're done with that.

Biscuit/Cyclop Mummy Strategy Airport

Move forward a little bit so that you're away from the truck and you will see a FOX soldier close to you. To the right of him is a large metal box. Shoot at the box and the FOX will call for backup. While he is calling, shoot him in the head with your MK22. Run over to him and equip your stealth. There will be 2 soldiers arriving shortly. Just shoot him as he runs over to your position. Now, turn to your right, there will be another guard running over. Again, shoot him as he runs over. Now, there is just one more soldier for you to deal with. Head in the direction that the second reinforcement came from and you wil see your last soldier in the distance. You should still have stealth equipped. Just shoot him with the MK22 and you're done. Now proceed with searching the sleeping soldiers. Any which drops a Magazine, will have high health. Any that drop Chaff Grenades, will have good stats, and any that drop Ga-ko dolls will have both high hp AND good stats. If you don't find anyone useful, just restart the mission and repeat. This strategy will take you under a minute if you practice it.

I have not edited this at all, so thanks go to Biscuit of the GameSpot MPO Forums.

3. Weapons Information

Adam McDiarmid

=========
1.KNIVES
=========

---Survival Knife---

A knife with a hollow grip designed to fit inside survival Kits.

Can also be used in battle.

---Spetsnaz Knife---

A specialzed combat knife developed for use by Spetsnaz, the special forces
unit under the authority of the Soviet military's Chier Administration for
intelligence(GRU).

A powerful spring installed within the grip allows the blade to be ejected.

============
2. HANDGUNS
============

---MK22---

An automatic pistol developed for special ops use in responce to demand from
U.S. Navy SEALs.

Can be equipped with a sound suppressor. Features a slide lock lever designed
primarily for single-shot firing, increasing the sound reducing capability of
suppressors.

Uses 9mm tranquilizer ammo.

---M1911A1---

This masterpiece of an automatic pistol has been a faithful partner to U.S.
soilders since the first model was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1911. Capacity
is limited to seven rounds, but the .45ACP bullets boast excellent stopping
power, and the gun's simple design makes it highly reliable.

With its high potential firing accuracy, the M1911A1 is also widely used as a
base for custom models in shooting competitions.

---Single Action Army (SAA)---

Also known as the "Peacemaker" and the "Frontier," this single action revolver
is a symbol of the days of the Wild West. The masterpiece SAA was adopted as
the official sidarm of the U.S. Army in 1875.his pistol's solid frame
construction results in lengthy reload times, but also ensures extremely high
durability. This and the gun's simple mechanics make the SAA a highly reliable
weapon.

Uses .45LC ammo.

(Revolver Ocelot's weapon of choice.)

==================
3.SUBMACHINE GUNS
==================

---Scorpion---

A small submachine gun designed and produced in Czechoslovakia. It is extremely
compact, easy to handle, and uses loght .32ACP ammo, resulting in an excellent
sense of control in full-auto mode, despite its small size.

Designed to be used by special forces and police in Warsaw Pact countries,
this SMG has also been adopted by many international terrorists, giving it a
high profile among Western countries as well.

---Uzi---

An Israeli-made submachine gun, the Uzi is designed to facilitate mass
production--appropriate for a country like Israel, which faces difficulty in
importing weapons.

The Uzi is also extremely reliable, crafted such that it rarely malfunctions in
dusty environments. Although it fires from an open bolt, the Uzi boasts
respectable accuracy, enabling head shots at close range. Uses 9x19mm ammo.

---M10---

Compact and light, this American-made light submachine gun carries a 32-round
magazine of powerful 9x19mm ammo, firing at a rate of over 1'000 rounds per
minute. This excessively fast firing rate has a negative impact on accuracy;
but in the hands of a seasoned marksman, it can deliver massive firepower in a
matter of seconds.

Can be equipped with a suppressor.

==================
4. ASSAULT RIFLES
==================

---AK-47---

It was adopted as the official rifle of the Soviet military in 1949. Its
austere and rugged construction allows it to endure even the roughest treatment
in battle. The AK-47 is a soldier's best friend, performing reliably everywhere
from the freezing Arctic to the scorching Sahara.

It is now one of the most widely known military rifles in the world. Anywhere
there is a conflict, the AK-47 is present. Uses 7.62x39mm ammo.

---M16A1---

The assault rifle of choice for the U.S. Army and Marine Corp. The caliber size
was reduced from  the M14 rifle, and enabled soldiers to carry more ammunition.
The M16A1's design extensively incorporates aluminium alloys and plastics,
making the gun itself relatively light.

Using 5.56x45 ammo and bearing a 20-round clip, this gun currently sees intense
action in Vietnam, serving as the counterpoint to the AK-47.

---XM177E2---

The carbine model of the M16A1. Modifications include a shortened barrel and
the addition of a retractable stock, reducing length by about 25cm.

It also features a flash hider equipped to suppress the loud bang and intense
muzzle flash produced as a result of the shorter barrel.

Uses 5.56x45 ammo.

============
5. SHOTGUNS
============

---M870---

With a wide range of applications, this is one of the most famous pump-action
shotguns in America, and is extremely poular with both hunters and law
enforcement. The Marine Corp ordered a large shipment of these in 1966, and is
currently putting them to good use. The M870 sports a variety of
configurations, with an adjustable barrel, extendable tube magazine, pistol
grip, and folding stock.

Holds seven 12-gauge shotgun shells.

---M37---

This 12-gauge shotgun, known as the"Featherlight," is almost 1kg lighter than
other guns in its class. It features a unique mechanism whee the feed on the
lower part of the receiver also functions as the ejection port.

The U.S. military currently uses a large number of this weapon in the conflict
in Vietnam.

Holds four shells.

=================
6. SNIPER RIFLES
=================

---SVD---

Adopted as the official sniper rifle of the Red Army in 1963, the SVD differs
from the Mosin Nagant in that it uses a gas-operated mechanism for automatic
fire. Its ammo capacity is twice that of the 10-round Mosin Nagant, and its
accuracy surpasses that of the NATO standard. This, coupled with its
repeat-fire capability, provides sustained suppressing power against the enemy.

Uses 7.62mmx54R ammo.

---Mosin Nagant---

A Soviet-made sniper rifle bassed on the M1891/30, in turn derived from the
"3-line infantry rifle" that was first produced during the Tsarist period.
Developed by selecting the most prcise units from the M1891/30 production line
and making necessary modifications, the Mosin Nagant was employed in large
numbers on the Russian front in WWII, providing it's worth in battle.

Uses 7.62mm54R ammo specially modified into tranquilizer rounds (7.62 tranq)

(The End's wepon of choice.)

=================
7. HEAVY WEAPONS
=================

---M63---

The M63 was conceptualized as a system weapon, a rifle that can be configured
into a number of variations--assault rifle, carbine, belt-fed light machine
gun--from the same design by mixing and matching parts with a basic core
component. It enables multiple types of equipment to be produced from a single
line, and the basic handling is the same for each variation.

Uses 5.56x45mm ammo. Holds 100 rounds.

---RPG-7---

First deployed in 1962, the RPG-7 is the cutting edge in anti-tank weaponry. It
is the successor ro the RPG-2, which was itself inspired by the Panzer-faust, a
German anti-tank grenade launch tube used in WWII.

The RPG-7 combines a reusable tube launcher with rocket-propelled grenades
(85mm HE/HEAT) to take out armoured targets and bunkers.

==============
8. EXPLOSIVES
==============

---Grenade---

A blast-fragmentation explosive. Damages the enemy with a combination of blast
from the explosion and fragments of the casing scattering in all directions.

---Stun Grenade (Stun G)---

A non-lethal grenade that temporarily paralyzes and confuses sight and smell
with an intense flash of light and loud sound upon detonation.

It uses a magnesium-based charge to produce a 1 million-candela flash and a 175
plus-decibel band.

---Chaff Grenade (Chaff G)---

A non-lethal grenade that temporarily disables any electronic devices in the
area by releasing a cloud of signal-jamming metal fragments upon detonation.

---Smoke Grenade (Smoke G)---

A non-lethal grenade that creates a thick smoke screen. The smoke can be used
as a signal for aircrafts or to mask movement from the enemy eyes.

---TNT---

Trinitrotoluene, a high-performance explosive widely used by militaries around
the world.

TNT is mechanically and chemically stble, making it easy to handle.

---Claymore---

An anti-personnel mine consisting of explosives and 700 steel ball bearings
contained within a gently curving plastic case.

When an object passes in front of it, it detonates and propels the ball
bearings forward in a wedge-shaped pattern, wounding or killing the enemy.

=========
9. OTHER
=========

---Magazine---

An adult magazine packed with alluring photos.

Perfect for those long, lonely nights on the battlefield.

---Anti-Ballistic Shield (Shield)---

A shield made of bulletproof armor.

Protects against a variety of bullets, explosive blasts and flying fragments.

---GA-KO---

A GA-KO doll. Wind it up and watch it waddle !

4. Guide To Getting Special Characters

Quote:

Python - Stamina Kill him

Null - I was playing on easy, and just killed him lethaly both times and got him on my next playthrough. If you're playing on normal or extreme, I'd stamina kill him both times just to be on the safe side

Cunningham - Stamina kill him and beat the game before 1st of January 1971

Gene - Stamina kill him and recruit 200 soldiers all in one playthrough. Recruit 100, discharge 50, recruit another 50 and you have 200.

EU Version - Beat Boss Rush Mode

Paramedic - Go to Comms Base and contact her. Then place spies in Hospital and you'll recieve a report soon after. She'll then need to be rescued.

Raikov - Before finishing the Guard House mission, place spies in the Western Wilderness. After completing the Guard House mission, you'll recieve a report of a handsome soviet officer being held prisoner there. He will then need to be rescued.

Sigint - After Snake is captured and saved, contact him on the radio at the Comms Base and then place spies in the Town. You'll recieve a report, and he will need to be rescued. You must not go into Alert Mode, or Sigint will take evasive action and you'll have failed the mission.

Sokolov - Give Sokolov or Ghost the Saturn V blueprints

Major Zero - Have a DGN save on your Memory Stick and you'll recieve him on your second playthrough

EU Version - Unknown

Teliko - Have a completed MG Ac!d save on your Memory Stick and you'll recieve her on your second playthrough

Venus - Have a completed MG Ac!d2 save on your Memory Stick and you'll recieve her on your second playthrough

EVA, Ocelot and, if you haven't already, Sokolov - Quite a long walkthrough, so I'll give a link to the first guide - Guide
Edit - I found another guide to get EVA, Ocelot and Sokolov coutesy of X_GuitarHero_X on the GameSpot forums. Here it is;

SOKOLOV
REQUIREMENTS

-Be Before Final Fight
-4 Spies at Silo Entrance
ACTIONS
-Go To Silo Entrance
-Find X on the Map and Go there
-Campbell will call and tell you that frequencies can open doors.
-Interrogate the nearest guard and he will tell you his friend has one at the power substation
-Go there and start interrogating. Eventually you will get the frequency 145.61
-Go Back to the Silo Entrance and call the frequency to open that door. You will get the blueprints
-Back at the mission select screen you should get a spy report saying a suspicious person was sighted
-Go there and he will be up a ramp where you previously fought a boss. He will be hidden in a room on the top floor.

EVA
REQUIREMENTS

-After Getting Sokolov
ACTIONS
-Go back to Silo Entrance and interrogate the guard on a walkway, and he will tell you about a man twirling revolvers, then you will be called by Campbell which will end the mission.
-After nightfall you will get a report about a high ranking government official in town.
-Go to town at night and interrogate the official and he will talk about ocelot and mention his friend at the airport
-Go to the airport and interrogate the guy at the top of the control room. He will tell you the codec 141.23
-Go to the mission select screen and you should get a spy report about an official at the guesthouse.
-Go to the guesthouse and interrogate him and he will talk about the lockers at the security base.
-At the security base there is a building at the top left of the map with two item boxes in it. Go there and have snake open lockers until he says that he sees the codec. It is 142.52
-Abort the mission and go to the comm base and talk to eva like you did with sigint and para-medic.
-Eva says she will come in about a week so keep going to the airport until Campbell calls you at the start of the mission to tell you to help eva land.
-You have to go to the control room and afterwards she will call you on your radio to tell you she was shot down.
-At the mission select screen you should get a spy report saying she’s in the western wilderness. Rescue her like you did with Raikov.

OCELOT
REQUIREMENTS

-After having found Eva
ACTIONS
-Go to the ravine and Campbell will call you telling you to call a frequency (appears to be random) in the comm tower of the ravine.

Elisa/Ursula - Beat the game with a Medic Level of 80

Campbell - It has been confirmed that Campbell can only be playable by using a cheat device, which manipulates skins. The only reason people have Campbell, is because his skin is encoded into the game as he was seen in the Prison. Sorry folks.
