2007-09-24 23:00

As Konami ramps up to the launch of Metal Gear Online, it has announces that it is to close its online service for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence after more than a year.

After October 30th 2007, the servers will be closed and Konami would like to thank the whole Subsistence online community for their dedication to the game and loyalty to the Metal Gear Solid series.
We sincerely hope to see you soon again when Metal Gear Online is released for PLAYSTATION 3.

as quoted from the MGO online news thing before you join/create a game, posted it here in case anyone didn't know,i didn't notice it until a few minutes ago.

@q8snake: A hell of a long time ago. It closed in September or the US. Not sure about Europe.

Also, try not to bump open topics that have been dead for so long.

No. MGO closed in April 2007 for US and in October 2007 for Europe.

But the reason for the colsing of the servers is quite simple. MGO on Subsistence was a test. Nothing more. They wanted to see how MGS would play as an online game.

Really? I thought the reason they closed was because of Konami's incompetence at looking after there own servers with a complete overide of glitchers hackers ruining the game for everyone else.

i hate that this closed down,i bought subsistence so i could play online...only to find out that hackers led kojima productions to practically insanity from all the complaints about hackers,to which they closed down the server

I think it closed down because it had bugs that too many people knew how to exploit, causing game integrity to decline. It only lasted 12 months in North America. Konami's 2 week notification of the closing of servers to MGO users on target date (April 2, 2007) was followed by a thank you to the community and urged them to buy Portable Ops for PSP to continued online experience.

When I got a PSP and finally found a new copy of the very rare Portable Ops which was selling at the same price a premium PS2 game was at the time (I paid $54.99 in Sept 2007).. I quickly noticed that there were only a couple dozen people online at the busiest time of day. And you couldn't chat or communicate with any other players. I thought this was very lame, however I think the affordably prices Portable Ops Plus expansion was much improved, in modes and in communication with other people in your game.

The bottom line is in order to continue the online experience, you need a PS3. I hope they keep the MPO+ servers active for atleast another year. I also hope they continue to support both console and portable online versions of Metal Gear Solid.
