As the title implies – what would have you have preferred this movie to be if it weren’t already live-action, and for what reasons do you think this way? Personally, I would have said a full CGI film like the two Final Fantasy movies – on par with the cut-scenes in the game (MGS4 since it has the best quality). I mean, watching the Final Fantasy movies was just amazing – they were just absolutely stunning, and it’s so unlike anything already out there. In addition, I’ve never been a big fan of the game adaptation to film or vice versa – so it’s in this way that we can stay more true to the original product. You can still tell essentially the same story – but there a some things which can only be conveyed in the form of animation, and since that’s where the original product came from; I believe that’s where it should stay. I understand Kojima probably wouldn’t be into doing that, since he’s a big movie buff of western films, and I can see that he would like to see one of his pieces of art come to life on the Hollywood screen in real live-action. But alas, I am me, and he is he. So, what do you all think? |

Full blown CGI, I am seriously doubtful whether Hollywood (or anyone) can seriously do MGS the justice it damnright deserves. They should just go CGI and use the voices of the characters. |

As much as I would love to see a properly done live action MGS movie, the likelihood of it being done right is very little, but I do think they could nail a CGI one. |

CGI is kinda a no-brainer, (especially after Advent Children) though some little excerpts of anime wouldn't go amiss... I loved how that was implemented into titles like Killer7 |

Not only would CGI do it the most justice, but would probably feel good to see, because of the whole cutscene thing in MGS games, well, anyway, I don't think anything else would look or feel very good either. |

CGI of course, IMO no actor can capture snake truly unless they have both the looks and voice down. plus I mean with a movie they'll use CG which sometimes doesn't look right with the live action, but with CGI the whole thing is in one set world so you won't have times saying...that looks so fake because everything in that world looks like it belongs. *sadistic_greyfox just confused half the MGS population. |

Well, I picked live action, because I wouldn't watch it if it was anything else. If I wanted to watch it in CGI, I would just go play the game and call it a day. I HATE, absolutely HATE anime. The drawings piss me off, but the main reason I hate it is because they took Transformers and made it an anime cartoon unlike it's real North American original show. Everything after Beast Wars was a rip off in my opinion, (but that is a different story). Any cartoon period of MGS as a movie would just be stupid and silly in my opinion. Live action is the only way to go. Of course, they will need to use CGI and other affects to make the live action though. |

I personally agree with Discomonkey--A similar dilemma haunts the proposed LOK film, in that you create a blaring incongruity when you cast an actor for a part who has a voice that is very different from the one that fans of the video game have come to expect and appreciate. This is why some suggest doing a strictly CGI movie that would allow David Hayter to voice Snake. As far as this idea being a "blasphemy", I think we need to chill out a little bit here. We're not talking about the redemption of our immortal souls here, o.k.? It's a movie, nothing more, and I've seen some excellent CGI films in my time. I would rather see a CGI movie with David doing the voice over, rather than a live action film that makes a parody of the series by casting the wrong actors into key roles, or tries to skate by on a low budget. (Remember "Blood Rayne"???) I think a mediocre CGI movie is more desirable than a shoddy (Shago-Shoddy?!? um, yeah sorry.) live action one. Additionally, I think that David COULD pull off a live action movie, acting out the part of Snake. This is not Shakespear, it's melodrama, something Hayter is more than proficient at--To say that he can't act is, I believe, irrevelant. The question is, can he BE Snake? I think he could do it. Hamlet? maybe not. Solid Snake? I believe so. If I see Snake onscreen, and hear someone elses voice, it's a bit of a letdown. For me, David Hayter IS snake, and that is why I went to the theater--to see Snake, not someone pretending to be him. Finally, a bad MGS movie will not "ruin" MGS!!! we still have the games, which have provided this fan with countless hours of facination and enjoyment. But hey, it's a subjective thing. Just my two cents, I will let you punch me now-- Long live Solid Snake!!! :ph43r: |

I've always wanted to get into film and learn to direct a CGI film (Like Shrek, Toy Story, etc) If I ever learned to and became successful, I would try and make a MGS movie with all the original voice actors... I think it takes a real MGS fan to make the games into movies a good thing. Unlike Bowel... |

Exactly. You can bet that a CGI film is going to be an entertaining affair, as a ridiculous amount of effort goes into each scene--every shrub, leaf and cloud has to be manually placed their by someone. I think that translates into a better finished product, as you are working in a medium that allows, and more importantly demands, that every detail be created and manipulated by a team of people (most likely tech-geeks who are as obsessed with MGS as we are) who have a keen interest in making every single shot absolutely perfect, and relevant to the series. A live action movie is not such a sure bet. You don't have that luxury when making a live action film, or the heightened degree of arbitrary control and manipulation. Anyway, to get back on topic (sorry!!!) I would like to have a look at Hayter's script, and find out who exactly is in charge of deciding if a MGS script is up to par. For I am a ninja, and I like cake. :ph43r: |

Can David Hayter play the part of a superhuman soldier? No, he proved this in the hideous 20th Anniversary Party message he has a wonderful voice as Snake, but there is no way he could play him. |

Personally i always thought metal gear solid should use the latest in 3d rendering technology and make the movie animated. David hayter is the only person who could do snake, it really shouldn't be anyone else. A fan could certianly make the best mgs movie in the sense that the fans can tell you if it's actually good or not, but otherwise im not sure. I would get someone who has directed alot of fast paced action movies, make them play the first few games, THEN have them try their damndest to recapture that on screen with a story worthy of the mgs name. However, the ONLY person fit to write the story for this movie is of course, hideo kojima. |

cgi also has the benefit of doing things that live cant so haveing live actors and a cgi metal gear might not go well, sure the technology can do it but its not the same |

No one can voice Snake as well as Hayter can, as we are used to his voice acting and then no one can look like Snake and do the voice. So CGI all the way but unfortunately that's not the case <_< |

I would say a mixture of Live Acting and CGI would work well with the MGS movie. Something like 300. That was an excellent mix of live action and CGI. Since MGS games have quite complex facilities and bosses, it would be a bit hard to recreate everything in live action. But, by all means, I think real actors should be used. If David Hayter must be used, I'd opt for a full CGI movie. |

Having all of the original voice actors in a CGI production would be something. Although, it might prove to be a little too similar to the games if that happens. Having a live-action film would be really cool, even though the original voice actors probably wouldn't be cast to act as live-actors. It's rather confusing . |
