This topic is to give people all the information on the Tsuchinoko they need. How to catch one, what they taste like, how to get it back when you lose it, everything.

The Tsuchinoko is a UMA (unidentified mysterious animal) from Japan. Call Para-medic repeatedly before the End's area, and she should give you some further info on the Tsuchinoko Snake.

How to catch a Tsuchinoko: To catch one, you'll need mousetraps. They can't be seen the first time you catch one. Lay your mousetraps in an area where one is located. Then exit the area, as in go to the next or previous one. Go back immediately and check your traps. It may be a few goes before you catch it, so don't worry if not for a bit. Just lay your traps down again, after crawling over them to pick them up. If you can't find your traps, use the survival viewer map, as they appear on it.
Hopefully a Tsuchinoko will be in one of your cages. If not, keep trying.

Where to find a Tsuchinoko: They are in several areas. I have heard they are in almost all forested areas, even Dremuchij, where you start the game. The locations following are ones in which I personally have found the Tsuchinoko.

Graniny Gorki. That is, the wooded area where you fight the Fear. This, in my opinion is the easiest area in which to catch one. Beat the Fear first and then lay your traps down around the area. I tend to in the area the Fear starts in, near the tree he is on at the start of battle.
But yeah, just spread them around if you get no luck, keep trying. Just run to the warehouse and come back to check.

Sokrovenno. I believe you can catch one in all three of these areas. I caught my first one in the North area, helped out by interrogating an Ocelot. It's a lot harder than Graniny Gorki though, I think. Try South, in the area just north of where you start, a few feet away on a small tuft of grass.
Also in North, try the area near where he drops the Mosin Nagant which is just the clump of trees at the bottom of the slope leading up, with the goat at the top.

Bolshaya Past South. This one seems quite hard to do, took ages. Again, Graniny Gorki is much simpler.

How they taste: You won't want to eat one first time, as you need a live one at the end of the game for the infinity face paint. When you have your second though, may as well eat it. You can only have one per save, by the way, so go for it after you've completed the game with one. They taste great, same as a Calorie mate or Instant noodle packet. They give you full stamina regeneration. Also, Eva has eaten Tsuchinoko and Shark fin soup, an interesting note.

The Prison break (important): After you've been captured, you'll lose all your gear, and that of course includes your Tsuchinoko. Just proceed normally to the waterfall with Eva. After you've met up with Eva in the cave, and the cutscenes are done, go out the way you came in, so you're back outside again. The Tsuchinoko will be on the river banks, crawling along. This time, it will be visible. It should be on the river bank to your left. Just look around for it there, you should still be in sight of the waterfall, it's close to it. It might be worth looking at it in the survival viewer before you lose it, so you know what to look for. It does stand out a bit, with it's way of movement.
If you can't see it to start, just keep looking. Just shoot it with your MK22 when you find it. Don't kill it, as you will need it alive. Pick it up again, and you're set for the rest of the game, just make sure you don't eat it or dispose of it.

If you keep it alive until the end of the game, where Ocelot kindly chucks it off the plane with your items, you will gain infinity face paint and the rank of Tsuchinoko. This face paint will give you unlimited ammo when worn.
Just remember all I've said, and you should be able to catch and get all the rewards from your Tsuchinoko. Good luck. :thumb:

Cobb is going to pin this, so the topics about it can be cut down. Anyone has anything I forgot, let me know, I'll edit it in.

Edit: Thanks God.

A tip: To help in catching one, try shooting every animal in the area first to improve your chances of catching a Tsuchinoko. In Graniny Gorki, make sure to hit all the poison dart frogs too, they're small. I've never done this myself, but it seems a good plan to me.

Mousetrap locations:
This is just to let you know where to get the mousetraps you will need to catch a Tsuchinoko.

Bolshaya past base: There are some in the food store of this area. It's a wooden hut in the middle of the base, hard to miss.

Ponizovje Warehouse: Again, in the food store, on the second level, after climbing the first set of stairs. There are some in here too.

Basically, just check all the food stores you find, there should be some in a few of them, definitely the ones I mentioned.

Also, on the survival viewer map, a mousetrap will appear as a hollow square. When your trap is full, the square will be filled. Not sure if that will help you much, but there you go.

Edit: You don't always have to leave the area to capture a Tsuchinoko, but it is more often than not, as animals will take a bit of time to get into your traps. If you leave the area, then you won't be waiting on them. You can get lucky sometimes though, and have animals get in quickly, as Gene has, and myself, in the past.

Good work dude, now there'll be no more n00b topics on the damn thing.
You might want to add that shooting every animal in the area will give you a hundred percent chance of catching it- the less animals there are, the higher your chance of snagging a Tsuchinoko.
I actually didn't know that they appeared on the Survival Viewer MAP, good stuff. :thumb:

I catch the Tchnko in the same place every run through. During the fight with the End, in the Sokrovenno South map, I'll lay down like 5 or 6 mousetraps in the small tuft of high grass that is a few feet, directly north of where snake starts the boss fight. I purposely don't check them until I beat the end, then when you finish him you end up in Sokrovenno North, go to the south and hear the Ding! check the traps and the Tchnko will be there.

Works every single time, without exception for me.

^ Cool man, I never placed any here myself, but from what you say, it sounds like a good spot. I should stick that in the FAQ. Never caught one in South actually, although I knew it was possible.

No prob, I always catch it there. The only reason I even lay down more than a couple mouse traps, is because there is usually 1 or 2 birds and a rabbit in the grass.

Light Saber trumps anything

If you eat one it gives you a huge stamina boost. I have never thrown one at a guard however.

Woot! I just caught my first tsuchinoko. I got it in the area where you battle The Fear, right in front of the tree he starts on (thanks Ich ^_^).

Now I've just gotta remember to pick it back up after meeting with Eva under the waterfall.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you can only catch one tsuchies at a time, but I'm only 90% sure so can someone confirm this?
