Vinyl is delicious. With the vinyl vs. CD debate, you hear a lot of talk about vinyl having a "warmer sound" than CD, which I fully agree with. It just doesn't sound so lifeless and digital. For example, I'm not a fan of Pink Floyd's DSotM. I can't listen to it on CD or on my computer or whatever, but if I throw on my vinyl copy and turn it up, it's an incredibly wonderful auditory experience. Otherwise, vinyl is nice because you get much bigger artwork, there's usually lyric sheets added or printed on the inner sleeve, etc., it's now a kind of collector's thing (and I like to collect music), and old vinyl is cheaper. |

So, how much would an old vinyl player cost? I've been interested in them for a while. |

I don't know about an old one, but I'm sure you could get a new one from an electronics shop for between $80-200. You might have to buy an amplifier and receiver to plug it into, though, if you don't have a bigger stereo system already. Personally, I have my mom's old turntable and amplifier, which I plug into the auxillary audio inputs on my cheap-ass Sony shelf system. |
