A request from the staff

Hey folks,

This is something that's bugged myself and others for a while now, and even though it's not an unusually regular occurrence, I'd like to say something about it. And that is arguing with a staff member's decision in a topic, throwing it wildly off course.

If you disagree with something a mod or an admin has said in a topic, fine; however, the place to take issue is via PM with that mod or another staff member.

Like I said before, this isn't an endemic, but it's something that apparently isn't common forum-sense.

Thanks,
Cobb on behalf of the staff

I guess this was because of me. :hmm:

I just think that sometimes a mod's decision is shit. And because of them, other people have to suffer for it. -_-

Don't be daft; I've seen this literally since the start of the forum. It's not all about you.

And this isn't some sort of wild perspective shift. I'm just asking that if you think a decision is shit, you don't clog up a topic saying so.

Yeah, whatever.
Wow, rude.

What a lot of members seem to forget is that the staff aren't working on some cruel bias to get you. Aside from the odd dodgy decision that goes down (No-one is perfect), we try and keep the forum as clean and tidy as possible.

People that have a problem with this have a problem with authority, thus deserve a punishment. Don't be that guy. As stated, just take it to PM or contact an administrator to register a complaint if you feel there is something wrong.

I have thought for years that cobb and refluxe are out to get me, they always monitor me and I swear every time I turn around I see a little badger head ducking around the corner. :ermm:

But I do agree with this. The only reason you would post something in the topic is to show off to people really. Its just as easy, and far more productive if you take it to the PM system. You will find that if you take it up just with that person your problem will get solved much faster.

Beyond compelled to throw this dollar down.

It's wasteful and untactful to address an exception you take to a moderator's decision in a thread. It's common sense. As already stated, it spams up the topic at hand and knocks it way off into the realm of conflict, rather than civil discussion. Furthermore, there are simply certain limitations you have to accept if you are going to participate in posting on a privately owned and operated forum. One would do well to not subject themselves to that which they can not in good conscience tolerate.

NOTE:

This is not aimed at anybody in particular, it's merely a general opinion I have formulated.

Generally, I believe that in any pseudo-large gathering of people, there will always be some disagreement. Normally the people who are continually acidic to others eventually betray themselves via their actions and are ousted.

I think that only if the forum member has underlining issues with the 'Staff' making the decision, should it be dealt with by another Mod as the original could no longer be objective, and that is half the Mods job.

Sometimes, in my rare dealings with a mod in under these circumstances, I have not always agreed with a given decision, but it comes down to the subject matter on wether or not I would politely contest it. If it were an important issue and the Moderator was in no way Objective, then it would have to be dealt with by someone more capable of upkeeping order in the forum.

Sadly, there will always be idiots, trolls, pursuers, troublemakers and people who believe that there is no other opinion then their own. This is where it is important to have a good caliber of person overseeing all that has occurred and making an objective decision. If I felt that it was important to see it through then I would, using the correct channels and methods.

Basically like begets like, so I would seek to avoid anyone with a history of unsavoury behaviour and poor judgement as interacting with such people would reflect badly upon myself. I choose instead to chat with either likeminded or just plain fun people!

There is enough drama in the real world, I like to spend my time online relaxing and having fun on whichever forum or site I am a member^^

Just my thoughts!

Killer Assist

I'd like to add a little comment here about the topic at hand. Usually, if you're discussing a topic and you throw in a little off-topic bit, it's not some horrible offense. What people tend to do when they are informed of a warning in-topic is make a one-sentence reply to the topic and a paragraph or two about they're outrage.

If you have an issue with a call that's made, you are always more than welcome to PM the mod or admin who warned you and inquire about it. I can't speak for others, but if you PM me about a warning and you're like "OH UR SUCH A FUCKING ASSHOLE! WHY DID U WRAN ME?", I'm going to laugh at you. If you say, "Hey, can you explain why I got the warning in such-and-such a thread?", I'm going to give you an explanation.

Someone thinks largely of himself. I thought this was about kappy calling the jews the instigators of ww2 in the off topic section.

Also, I did it too. In fact, a lot of people have done it.

I think the consensus is why do it in private when you can bash people publicly.

Of course there are people who refuse to talk to you via PM, and are just looking for a public fight. In which case it is inevitable that it will be done in public.

By 'I did it too', I meant go off topic. Not calling the jews the instigators of ww2.

Have to agree with kkarbo on that point. I mean what can you do if someone wants to act all big and won't talk via PM?

But I understand what you guys want and understand why.

Hopefully that won't be an issue (the_cobbinator does one of Tam's famous glares at Staff), but that's a case where you'd want to PM another staff member, preferably an administrator.

Of course they are, that's a no brainer. Some people are just assholes, simple.

But Cobbinator has given them a word to the wise here, so now if they do that, then they're going to be punished for it. They can still bash in public all they want, and then they'll see where that gets them.

The thing is, all you guys who think you're "bashing" the staff are really just making yourself look like idiots. Rather than finding it funny most people just find it annoying.

No offense, kkarbo ;)

And if someone's talking shit on the forum, fuck 'em. If you think they're ridiculous you're just as bad for arguing back.

Good to know that you don't bother to understand situations when you comment on them, webbie. You have no clue who I was referring to, do you? That person isn't on the staff.

Good thing I'm not doing it for the entertainment. I don't know about the other people you are apparently doing this, but i'm doing it because I think it is the right thing to do.

You're right, we should just let people get away with it, shouldn't we? Let trolls and spammers run rampant. Good idea.

If someone is trying to start something with you and you want something done about it, use the Report button, which you're supposed to do in the case of any rule breaks. It is by far the quickest and easiest way to notify staff of rule breaking and general crap, and therefore will normally lead to swift action, depending on time zones and who is on at the time of course.

I fully agree with you there. It will have to take a Mod to not only warn the person but to take action based on their posts. As for PMs, its all in the approch, as orionx103 said:

I know that I would enter discussion with a decent person of reason, but I would not with a "OMFG STFU WTFBBQ" person Lol. Like begets like.

So yes, use the report button, it is there for a purpose^^

I wasn't talking about just you in particular, nor whatever incident you're talking about. The reason I said "all you guys" is because I'm referring to everyone who always adds in their extra little insults or witty comments because they think they're hilarious, and yeah, I've seen you talk your fair share of shit. Obviously I'm not talking about whatever incident you are, because admittedly I have no idea what you're talking about.

If people are talking shit it's the mods/admins job to handle it, not yours or anyone else's. Are you not mature enough to ignore people?
