Well the new F1 season is only a day away and i'm looking forward to it; but wondering what everyone else is thinking...
With a new team in the line up this year, new faces to the world of F1 and diver changes I wonder how this season is going to shape up compared to a few of previous seasons. The sham of a race in Indianapolis in 2005? And last seasons Spy fiasco?
This year the sport could do with a more sedate world off the track and have some better racing on it.

So just how many F1 fans are there here?

You hagfish you!

No traction control is the only thing thats going to make this season a bit more intresting IMO.

Not saying the drivers arent good, But it really needs to be more driver orientated. Saw a suggestion today (Possibly Jeremy Clarkson?) which said, 20 cars, 20 drivers, 20 races. Mix and match. Hamilton/Kimi/Alonso/Massa could all either be in decent cars, Or shit cars. At the moment its the rich companies at the front, and the not so rich towards the back.

On another note, Anyone made a team on the Virgin Media site? Fantasy league kinda thing. Hard to keep to the budget, My drivers:

Massa (I think he will mature loads and be up there once again)
Fisichella (never know... hes been there a while. Aslong as he keeps finishing he will score me points)
Sato (this guys just a legend anyway!)

Engine, Redbull I think.

Constructor Ferrari.

So aslong as they finish/position/get certain places in qualifying im sorted!

Oh, cool; I didn't know it was starting so soon. I only properly started taking an interest towards the end of last season, so I'm gonna make a bit more of an effort this year.

^Might try that out. :D

Well, everyone knows already that it will be Ferrari And Mclaren drivers who will battle for the championshio. Only other team that seems capable of offering a challenge is BMW.

I think Kovalainen will do well this season. He's atleast the smartest Finnish F1 driver ever. Can't say anything about who will win the championship yet though. It could be anyone from the group: Massa, Räikkönen, Hamilton and even Kovalainen.

As I said, BMW might offer a challenge, but I can't believe they'd be able to win the championship.

Edit:

The first race was full of surprises to say the least.

Right now, only thing that's sure is that Hamilton will surely be able to win the championship this year.

It will make racing more interesting... means they actually have to drive now and not just push buttons.

I think ill have to have a look at virgin media, but later as im avoiding all possibilities of seeing the results before i watch the race.

I just did my Virgin Media team. Shame, I missed the points from first race, but it's all for fun.

My team:

Constructor: Williams

Team: BMW

Driver 1: Heikki Kovalainen
2: Nico Rosberg
3: Sébastian Bourdais

And yes, I did my choices based on how the first race went.

I hope Rosberg will actually be able to be consistent through this season and that Kovalainen will be able to get a couple surprise wins.

Well that was a cracking good race. No traction control is going to produce some good races.

Anyone got thoughts on who their driver of the day was?
Kovalainen is my choice, his overtaking of Alonso was brilliant, what happened on the pit straight was just unlucky. Then again the Renault always will have the edge on straight line speed.

I have my virgin media team too now, it's a bit rubbish but it will do.

Constructor: BMW Sauber
Engine: Renault
Driver 1: Sébastian Bourdais
Driver 2: Nico Rossberg
Driver 3: Jensen Button

I also have strong confidence that Kovalainen will be able to improve his performances through the season. Today he just didn't have luck with him.

...Also, I was wondering if any of you would want to join a minileague I made in that F1 Fantasy team game. We could call it the MGSF league :P:

The details you need are:
League Name:

My luck. My constructor was Toyota, They wanted to become plane pilots instead. Well Glock did, Massa blew up as far as I know, along with fisi. Marvelous. Just kicked toyota out of my team Incomes Torro Rosso :D

Got the race on tape. Gonna watch it tommorow, Seen highlights though.

Ive joined the league. Btw, No points were given for the first race :) Was just to see if you wanted to make changes etc.

Oh and ADJ, F1 is alright as a following sport. But driving round in circles pretty much, and you can tell whos gonna do what. WRC is another decent motorsport, and BTCC. If your intrested in any others like! Dave (TV channel) is showing WRC this season which is cool.

I just accepted you guys to the league.

Luckily, the fact that none of us got points for the first race is only good, cause now we are totally even.

I may get a couple of my non MGSF friends to the mini league, so that you know.

And about motorsports in general: F1 got better after Michael Schumaher stopped being unbeatable and retired, I have to say :P
But Moto GP is seriously much more interesting. Much more overtaking, shorter and more intense races.

Yes and no. While Having Shcumacer not winning everything all the time will open it up for the rest. you cant say it was amazing to watch some of his driving?

His last race for example. Wasnt doing too good, Tyre blow out. Last position. Got upto something like 7th place by the end of it within like 10 laps? Thats what a proper driver should be doing!

Should be more driver orientated anyway. Which is why I prefer Rally over F1. Cant beat a bit of throttle control while the back end of the car is sliding happily past the front about a metre away from some trees. Ahhhh.

I am not denying the fact that his driving was superb. But if one driver or team dominates almost every race, it's always a bit boring.

And YES, driving should be more driver oriented. But unfortunately, unless all the engine etc. related things are regulated to be the same for everybody, the car you are driving will always matter a lot.

Rally is a bit better than F1 with this, I think... Hopefully we'll get atleast a few surprise winners this season.

EDIT:

Note that the MGSF league at Virgin Media is still up for anyone who wants to join. Please, everyone with even little interest, take part so that we'll see who's the best F1 team manager! ;)

It'd be better if everyone joined before the next race, so that you'll get points from there and have a chance to be the best.

I'll have to see after next race whether I have to make any changes.
I do trust to Kovalainen though.

Ok not going to be around to post after the race, so my prediction of who will win is going to be Hamilton. He's headed for another good season! But Kovalainen is going to do well not that the speed limiter on his car has been fixed.
Hopefully Bourdrais and Rossberg are going to do well too. ^_^

Anyways good luck with the league everybody!

Not gonna let the F1 topic die!

So, the 2nd race is behind us. To my fantasy league team drivers, it wasn't the best except for the fact that Heikki Kovalainen was able to finish 3rd. Unfortunately I got pretty much 0 points from Bourdais.... -_-

Anyway, here are the current statistics of our fantasy league (And one of my RL friends, Team Flatulentia):

Points
1. Team Snails Pace 249
2. The Fighting Mongooses 235
3. Flatulentia 229
4. Danarri 194
5. Team Muikuli 177
6. Smog Monsters 151

Not looking too good for me and Smog Monsters I have to say... But I still have trust for my team, atleast for the next race. so no changes yet.
