Here's the sequel I'm still currently writing for 24: Rogue Agent.

Same warnings as the previous story. Scenes of violence, torture, sex and strong language.

Hope you enjoy reading it :)

Part 1

7 years later…

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles… 0649

“Dad!”
Melissa opened her eyes at the sudden cry. Staying still in Jacks arms. Feeling and hearing his sigh on the back of her neck,
“This is the fourth time y‘know,”
“What does she want?”
Melissa raised her head from the pillow when the bedroom suddenly shot open. Looking over towards the beam of light that hit her. She hissed. Squeezing her eyes shut as she looked away. Opening them once again when she felt the bed bounce. Sighing heavily,
“Amy, it’s not even seven o’clock,”
“It almost is!” the little girl defended. Pointing over at the clock, “See! Six forty nine!”
“Eleven minutes yet,” Jack told her as Melissa shook her head. Laying her head back down on the pillow. Shaking her head slightly again when she felt the bed dip again. Knowing Amy was on the move. She got a hold of Jacks forearm. Tugging on it gently,
“Daddy!”
“A few minutes,” Jack replied,
“You promised!” she moaned, crossing her legs. Making the bed bounce again as she sat down. Folding her arms. Putting a pout on her face as she stared at her father. Jack felt her gaze and opened his eyes. Looking at his daughter. He shook his head. Grumbling as Amy cried,
“You said you’d teach me how to surf!”
“I know. After breakfast,”
“Yeah, I’ve had breakfast,”

Melissa sat up. Keeping herself covered with the sheet as she looked at Amy. Awake and alert as she asked,
“What did you do?”
“Pixie treats,” Amy answered honestly, “I put the milk back in the fridge, mommy,”
She nodded slowly. Closing her eyes as Amy looked between the two. Finding Jack drifting back to sleep again. Not letting him get anymore of it when she pulled on his arm again,
“Daddy!”
“Okay. Okay. I’m up. I’m up.”
“Yeah!” Amy squealed, getting up off the bed. Racing out into the hallway again. Melissa looked back at him. Opening her eyes fully now as she whispered,
“I hope to God you are,”
“Hmm, why?”
“Cause I don’t know the first thing about surfing or riding that kind of board,”
Jack smirked. Looking over at her as Melissa rolled over. Laying on her stomach as she turned her head to the right. Staring at Jack as she whispered teasingly,
“I know someone who does give a good ride though,”
He smiled. Chuckling softly as she raised herself up from the bed. Kissing him softly on his lips before Jack suddenly grabbed her hips. Turning her over onto her back again. The two smiling and laughing until he kissed her back. Deep and passionate. Getting a moan of bliss, and a moan of disappointment,
“Dad!”
Jack broke the kiss. Groaning in disappointment himself as he hung his head. Feeling her skin brush against his forehead. Melissa smiled. Stroking his back as she kissed his hair. Groaning quietly before she breathed out,
“You’d better get going before she comes back up here and sees us like this,”
Jack nodded. Raising his head. Looking down at her as he asked,
“You at work today?”
“Yeah, my week this week isn’t it,”
Jack nodded. Huffing softly before he pushed himself up. Steadily climbing off the bed and heading into the small bathroom.

Melissa watched him step inside. Smiling as she admired the perfectly rounded butt. Wincing slightly as the light flashed on. Smiling a little more when he left the bathroom door open. Hearing the water running as he asked,
“What time do you have to be there?”
“Nine o’clock. Why?”
“Just wondering. Thought I’d give you a lift.”
“Won’t you be needing a shower by then?”
“That’s if I’m out of the water by then,”
She smiled. Rolling over onto her back. Staring up at the ceiling as Jack appeared in the doorway. Drying his face off with a towel. Noticing her eyes were frozen on the ceiling. He tossed the towel to the side. Turning out the light as he asked,
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m alright… Just… thinking,”
“Thinking about what?” Jack asked, making his way back over to the bed. Looking down at her. Melissa shook her head. Releasing a heavy sigh before she whispered,
“Nothing… probably just me,”
Jack sat down on the edge of the bed. Taking a hold of her hand. Waiting for her to react to the sudden touch. She turned to look at Jack. Smiling as she whispered,
“I’m fine. Just groggy,”
Jack smiled and nodded. Squeezing her hand before he got up off the bed. Getting dressed as he told her,
“I’ll start making breakfast if you want to go and get ready,”
“Sure,”

Amy was back inside again when Jack stepped down from the stairs. Looking into the living room. Finding the TV turned off. He looked to the left. Finding Amy trying to get onto one of the breakfast bar stools. He smiled. Walking inside as he asked,
“What’s mommy told you about those?”
Amy shrugged her shoulders. Backing off when she saw Jack coming over to her. Smiling and giggling as he lifted the six year old up into the air. Holding her tightly but with a gentleness. Smiling and chuckling as she giggled and screamed more. Laughing as Jack spun round on his heels before letting her sit on his shoulder. Ignoring the slight pain that came when she got a hold of his hair,
“Where’s mommy?”
“Mommy’s upstairs getting washed and dressed so she can go to work,”
“Why doesn’t she stay here with me and you?”
“Cause mommy’s got a job to do.” Jack breathed, lifting her up from his shoulder as he walked over to the side. Sitting Amy down on top of it as he went to go get a few things from the fridge,
“Are you gonna teach me how to surf now?”
“How about we take mommy to work and then we’ll go and buy you a surfboard?”
“Yeah!” she giggled, clapping her small hands together. Jack smiled. Looking back at Amy. Looking at her light brown hair,
“You cut your hair baby?” he asked,
“Yeah!”
“Why?”
“I didn’t like it long.” she muttered, taking some of her hair into her hands. Her brown eyes watching it slip out from between her fingers. Jack shook his head. Whispering quietly,
“Mommy’s gonna be upset y’know,”
“I can wear a hat,” she replied, smiling a princess smile. One that would usually win him over but it wasn’t going to work this time,
“Looks like we’ll be stopping by the salon as well,”

Melissa walked down the stairs when she heard the second job for the day. Brushing back her hair as she held the bobble between her lips. Looking over at Jack as she took the bobble out from between her lips. Fastening her hair back as she asked,
“Who’s going to the salon?”
“Amy needs to go,”
“Needs to go? What happened?”
Jack sighed softly. Closing his eyes as Amy answered honestly,
“I cut my hair,”
“You did what?”
Jack closed the fridge door. Stepping over to Amy as Melissa joined him at the side. Looking through her hair. Finding short and long strands. She shook her head. But smiled and laughed,
“You know I did this when I was your age,”
“I bet you looked real pretty huh mommy,”
Melissa smiled. Nodding as she lifted Amy up. Putting her down on the floor as she whispered to Jack,
“Like hell I did,”
Jack chuckled. His hand resting on Melissas back as she straightened her posture. Looking down at Amy as she asked,
“When are we going?”
“When your moms had something to eat. Why don’t you go watch some cartoons?”
“Okay,”

They watched as she ran off out of the kitchen. Slowing her pace when Jack called to her,
“Don’t run baby otherwise I‘ll have to throw you in the water!”
“I’m not running daddy!”
“What are you doing?”
...
“I thought so,” he chuckled, hearing the loud poof as Amy jumped onto the couch. Listening to the TV as the channels were flicked through. Finding a good enough cartoon to keep her entertained. Jack turned back to Melissa. Finding her by the sink. Washing a bunch of grapes. Never hearing him sneak up on her. She gasped in shock at first before she giggled. Feeling Jack wrap his arms round her waist. Kissing her hair softly before he asked,
“Half a day today?”
“Yep. Luckily. Didn’t think Karen would let me have it,”
“Well she’s not the only one who’s married now,”
“Yeah, but she doesn‘t have a kid yet either,” she giggled before sighing softly. Letting her head fall back against his shoulder. Staring out of the window. Over the beach and beyond as she whispered quietly, “That wedding was like a dream, y’know. It was so perfect… just a shame things turned out they were they did with my family. Would have been nice to have some of them there. But I guess they would have just tried to ruin it,”
“You’ve talked about this about twenty times now.”
“Yeah I know… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought it up,”
“It’s okay. Relax.”
She smiled and nodded. Lifting her head from Jacks shoulder. Turning to look back at him. Meeting his gaze as she asked,
“So what are you two doing today?”
“We’re heading to the salon to get her hair fixed and then… I’ve told her she’s getting a surfboard,”
“Aw!”
“Yeah. Hopefully she’ll be able to ride it.”
“I’m sure she will,”
They smiled at each other. Savouring a soft kiss before Amy came running back into the kitchen. Melissa smiled. Laughing as she turned round and watch Jack pick Amy up. Teasing her with tickling fingers. Chuckling himself as she squirmed and laughed in his arms. Laughing as she shouted,
“Mommy!”
“Mummy’s busy baby! You’ll have to hold on!”

She finished up with the fruit and drinks a few minutes later. Setting them down on the breakfast bar as Amy came running back into the kitchen. Melissa looked back at her. Smiling as she returned her attention to the drinks. Asking softly,
“What’s daddy told you about running in the house?”
“I shouldn’t do it,”
“Good girl. You gonna watch some cartoons while me and daddy have something to eat?”
“Yeah,”
“Okay. Why don’t you ask daddy to put some on?”
Amy nodded. Reaching up for some of the fruit on the table. Melissa smiled. Picking up the bowl. Crouching down in front of her as she asked,
“What do you want?”
She watched her eyes scan over the bowl. Her hand swaying, left and right, just above the pieces of fruit. Suddenly speaking out,
“That one,”
As she picked up a slice of apple. Turning and taking it away with her into the living room as Jack walked back into the kitchen. Looking more flustered than Amy did. Melissa stood on her feet. Smiling as she teased,
“Did somebody get tickled back?”
Jack smirked. Sitting down at the bar with Melissa,
“Someone else will though after breakfast,” he teased back. She smiled as she picked up the glass of orange juice. Enjoying breakfast while they listened to Amys giggles and the TVs sound effects before Melissa got up to finish getting ready.

En route to CTU - Los Angeles

Jack brought the car round a right turn as Amy asked,
“Can we get some ice cream?”
“It’s not even ten o’clock sweetheart,” Jack answered, “Do you wanna wait while we’ve had some lunch?”
“Okay,”
Melissa smiled as she stared out of the window. Looking back at Jack as he whispered,
“Okay, something’s bugging you,”
“There’s nothing bugging me,”
“There is. You’re too quiet,”
“Is mommy sick?” Amy asked. They looked up into the mirror. Smiling as they looked at the worried expression on Amys face. Melissa shook her head. Answering back a little louder now,
“No baby, I’m fine. Don’t worry,”
Amy nodded. Watching as Jack looked back at Melissa. Asking quietly,
“What’s up?”
“Nothing. I’m fine. Don’t worry. I’m probably still groggy. Need something to wake me up,”
Jack nodded. Looking back at the road as CTU came into view.

He brought the car to a stop just outside security. Looking back at Melissa as he asked,
“What time do you want picking up?”
“Probably around two o’clock. That enough time for you guys?”
“Yeah, of course,”
“Great. I’ll see you in a few hours then,”
Jack smiled. Kissing her softly before she climbed out of the car. Closing the door as she stepped over to Amys side. Asking with the same smile,
“You gonna be a good girl for daddy?”
“Yeah,”
“Good girl,”
She kissed her cheek softly before she called to them,
“I’ll see you in a few hours,”
“See ya in a bit,”
She waved to Amy as Jack drove off. Watching them turn the corner before she turned away herself. Heading into the grounds of CTU. Smiling and waving at Jose as he stood by the security post.

Comm Team, CTU - Los Angeles

Morris was the first to greet her when Melissa stepped inside. Seeing him coming from a mile off. She shook her head. Stopping as Morris jogged over to her. Sighing before she greeted him,
“Hey Morris,”
“Gosh, you don’t look good darlin,”
“I’m tired,”
“I thought Amy was six?”
“She is. She’s just got plans with her dad today,”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah, Jack’s teaching her how to surf,”
“I didn’t know Jack surfed.”
“Yeah, he does.” she chuckled. The two looking to the side as a member of the comm team came up to them,
“Agent Bauer?”
“Yes,”
“This package came for you today. Want me to take it up to your office?”
“Yeah, thanks. I’ll be up there in a minute,”
He smiled and nodded. Heading towards field ops with the package slipped under his arm. Bringing her attention back to Morris as he handed her a file,
“What’s this?” she asked, flipping it open,
“Some news on what happened last night,”
“What happened last night exactly?”
“There was an explosion in the CTU office in San Francisco.”
“Anyone hurt?”
“Nope. Luckily for them,”
“Do we know who did it?”
“Not yet. Forensics couldn’t find anything in the room that they could use. So…” he paused, tutting before he added, “Dead end,”
“Great… Thanks Morris.”

He nodded and smiled. Stepping to her side and walking away to talk to Milo. Melissa walked on. Looking up at the Directors Office. Seeing Bill sat at his desk. Karen Hayes looking over his shoulder. Figuring they’d be looking at the same file she had in her hand. Managing to climb the first four steps when the office she was walking towards exploded. Firing shards of glass in every direction. The stairs she was stood on trembled violently. Barely getting a grip on anything before she fell back down the stairs. Rolling over onto her stomach. Covering her head with her arms as she felt glass hit her back. Afraid to move or look up to see if anyone was hurt. Hoping the shocks from the explosion would soon ease.

Part 2

CTU - Los Angeles

Morris had stayed behind as others had bolted. Looking through the dust clouds that were filling up the area. Spotting a body on the floor. He forced himself past Milo as he tried to get the floor cleared. Looking on as Milo raced towards the scene. Shouting to him,
"Morris!"
"Be right with ya in a sec mate!" Morris yelled back to him. Rushing over to the body. Brushing the pieces of glass off the body’s back. Taking a few chunks out of the hair before he gently shook her. Looking over at Milo as he joined him on the floor. Resting a hand on the body’s shoulder. Leaning closer to Morris as he hissed,
"What are you doing? Forensics handle the bodies!"
"If they're dead,"
Milo shook his head. The two looking down at the body as the head was raised. Melissa telling them with a slightly frustrated hiss,
"I'm not dead you silly sods!"
"It wasn't me sweetheart," Morris objected, holding his hands in the air in defence. Melissa shook her head as she brought her attention back down to the floor. Closing her eyes for a moment. Hissing when the ringing in her ears grew louder. She covered her ears with her hands. Getting to her knees slowly but easily. Looking round the room they were in. Finding the area clear except for Bill and Karen as they rushed over to the trio on the floor. Bill crouching down in front of them as he asked,
"You all alright?"
Melissa nodded, hissing before she answered,
"Yeah, just bad ringing in my ears,"
Bill nodded. Looking back at Melissa as she asked,
"How the hell did that bomb get in here!?"
"We don't know. That's what we're trying to find out,"
"There's no one here! They ran off!"
"They're being brought back into the building now."
Melissa nodded. Letting her hands drop so Morris and Milo could help her to her feet. Karen helping Bill to his. Her eyes on Melissa as she ordered,
"I want you to go down to medical,"
"I feel fine,"
"Maybe, but I still want you to get checked out,"
Melissa sighed. Nodding slowly before Karen added,
"Morris, will escort you down there,"
Melissa nodded again. Holding onto Morris as he offered his arm to hold onto. Guiding her down to the clinic.

Salon, Downtown - Los Angeles

Amy raced inside first. Rushing straight towards the black haired woman ahead of her. Smiling as much as Amy did. She crouched down and held out her arms. Lifting Amy up into her arms. Swinging her round as the two laughed and giggled. Hugging her tightly before the woman asked,
"Where's your mommy and daddy?"
"Mommy's at work today,"
"Is she now? And what about your daddy?" she asked, looking towards the door. Seeing Jack walk inside. He smiled and nodded. Greeting her gently,
"Hey Louise, how you doin?"
"Pretty good thanks. Yourself?"
"Yeah I'm alright thanks,"
"That's good to hear!" Louise sighed putting Amy back down on her feet. Standing straight again as she asked, "How's Mel?"
"She's alright. She's just tired,"
"Oh bless her heart. Hope she gets a good night sleep. Hopefully you're not keeping her up all night,"
Jack blushed slightly as he sat down. Looking at Louise still as he chuckled,
"Well, I can never disobey a woman now can I?"
"That's good to know,"
He smiled. Folding his arms as Louise went on to change the subject,
"Okay. So. Who's getting what cut into what today?"
Jack nodded towards Amy. Smiling as she told Louise,
"I cut my hair this morning!"
"Oh you did, did you?" Louise asked, playing along as she crouched down in front of Amy. Getting a better look at her hair now. She smiled, "Don't you look like a princess?"
"Like my mommy!"
"Yeah! How about we make you look even better?" Louise asked, giving a wink to Jack. Making him smirk as he continued to watch the two. Looking down to his right. Looking down at the magazines as Louise lifted Amy up again. Sitting her down in the kiddies chair before she asked,
"How about we make you look like a queen?"
"I wanna be a princess," Amy moaned slightly,
"Okay. We'll make you the prettiest princess in the world,"
"No one's prettier than my mommy!"

Jack looked back at the two. Smiling more and more as he continued on to watch and listen to Amy go on about her mother. Then she started to talk about Jack. Making him blush. Making him remember Kim's early years before she turned to her teenage years. Became rebellious. Amy smiled and giggled as she started,
"Daddy loves mommy so much!"
"I bet he does," Louise replied,
"Yeah! He bought mommy this black sparky dress,"
"Sparky,"
"Yeah! Mommy looked like a princess!"
"Aw,"
"Daddy's gonna teach me how to surf! Aren't you daddy?"
"Yeah baby. When we get home," Jack answered back, watching as Louise looked at him. Smiling as she asked,
"You like the beach?"
"Yeah!" Amy giggled, kicking her legs gently against the seat she sat in.
"What about the water?"
"Yeah! I wanna go ubing!"
"Ubing?" Louise asked, looking at Jack again. He smiled. Taking in a short breath before he whispered,
"Scuba diving,"
"Ah," Louise whispered looking back at Amy as she started to cut her hair. Smiling as Jack looked out of the window. Watching a fire engine zip past them . Heading down the street. He turned back to watch Amy. Smiling at the smile he found on her face. Her legs still kicking out excitedly.

Clinic, CTU - Los Angeles

Bradson stared at Melissa as he listened her heart and her breathing through the stethoscope. Her eyes on him as she shook her head. Turning away before Bradson ordered,
"Deep breath,"
She closed her eyes. Taking a deep breath. Waiting for his order,
"Breathe out,"
Before letting it out. Opening her eyes as Bradson moved round to the back of her. Repeating the same movements. The same orders before he removed the ear pieces from his ear. Setting the stethoscope down on the trolley. Coming back round to the front of her as he commented,
"While there's nothing wrong with your lungs or your heart,"
"It was dust." Melissa sighed, "Not smoke,"
"It was a explosive device. There was smoke,"
"Yeah but I think I would have been coughing if I had breathed it in,"
Bradson shook his head. Putting his hands on her throat. Making sure her lymph nodes were fine. Melissa raised an eyebrow. Asking quietly,
"What are you doing?"
"Making sure you're alright,"
"I'm fine."
"You don't sound it,"
Melissa sighed heavily before she told him,
"I got a very early wake up call,"
Bradson smirked. Taking his hands off her. Walking round to the metal trolley. Taking the small torchlight. Coming back round to her, chuckling softly as he asked,
"How's Amy doing?"
"She's fine. She cut her own hair so Jack's taken her to get it cut,"
"Typical six year old girl," Bradson chuckled further. Flashing the light into her eyes, "Well, your eyes are fine as well,"
"Told you, I was fine. I don't see why Karen ordered me down here in the first place,"

Bradson smiled. Stepping out of the way as Morris walked towards the bed she was sat on. About to offer a helping hand when Melissa jumped off the bed herself. Smiling as she whispered to him,
"I'm fine. Relax,"
Morris smiled and nodded. Watching as Melissa turned to Bradson,
"Am I alright to leave now doc?"
Bradson smiled. Holding his hands together down in front of him. Shrugging his shoulders before he answered,
"If you feel like you should,"
"Thanks,"
Bradson nodded. Turning and leaving to go back into his office as the two others headed out of the clinic.

Melissa stepped ahead of Morris as they walked back down towards the floor. Morris jogging slightly to catch up. Asking quickly,
"You sure you should be heading back to the crime scene?"
"You think I should go home because my office has just been blown up?"
"Well no. But-"
"Then I'll stay here. I've got a job to do,"
"Wow..." Morris breathed, stopping in the corridor. Melissa stopped. Looking back at him as she asked,
"Wow what?"
"You're really cranky aren't you?"
Melissa sighed. Looking down at the floor for a moment. Shaking it before she raised it up again. Sighing heavily before she apologized,
"Look I'm sorry but I had a bad wake up. I'm still tired. And I just... I just need my bed. I need my sleep. As much as I love my daughter. And I love the way she makes me smile and makes my life seem even better now that I have both Jack and her in it... God it's a pain in the arse. The early mornings at not my liking,"
Morris smiled. Patting her arm as he walked with her once again,
"Darlin, relax. You just need an early night."
"I need to go sort out my office. If you haven't noticed. Someone decided to make my life hell and make it a mess."
"They blew out the walls,"
"Exactly! A mess!"
"Bloody hell! You're tired aren't you?"
"Jeez, you can really tell that from the way I am today?"
"Get some caffeine and get home,"
"I'm working on it," she breathed, stepping out onto the floor. Finding the team back at their stations. Security and firemen invading the once solid office, "This is gonna be a bloody long day,"

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Jack was sat out on the steps. Watching Amy as she stood on her own surfboard. Swaying from side to side. He chuckled. Putting the bottle of water down as he told her,
"That's a little fast baby. You need to slow down a little,"
"What if they're fast waves?"
Jack smiled. Chuckling softly as Amy asked,
"Can't you show me daddy?"
"Show you how to surf?" he asked, watching as she jumped off the board. Pretending to swim through invisible waves before she climbed the steps of the deck. Sitting down in front of Jack as she asked, "You surf, right daddy?"
"Daddy's a little old now to surf,"
"Aw, dad!"
"I can't surf baby,"
"You said you could!"
Jack sighed. Staring at her hazel eyes. Reminding him so much of Melissa. She definitely looked like her. But Amy was definitely a Bauer with her attitude and determination. He smiled. Sighing heavily before he whispered,
"Okay. I'll show you."
"Yay!"

He smiled. Getting to his feet. Hearing the phone ringing in the house. He turned and jogged inside. Hearing the gentle rapid patter of Amys feet against the floor. Standing in the doorway as she watched Jack answer the phone,
"Hello... Speaking... What! When?... Is she alright?... Yeah... Yeah I'll be right over... Okay... Bye,"
He hung up as Amy ran over to him. Tugging on his fingers as she asked,
"Was that mommy?"
"Uh... no baby. It wasn't,"
"Is mommy okay?"
Jack turned and looked down at her. Scratching the back of his head before he asked,
"How about we go and get an ice cream?"
"What about surfing?"
"Do you wanna leave it while tomorrow?" he asked, crouching down in front of her, "And I promise I'll show you how it's done,"
"You promise?"
"Yeah, baby, I promise,"
Amy smiled. Hugging him suddenly. Her arms around his neck. Jack smiled. Hugging her back before she broke out of his hold. Racing back outside as he shouted to her,
"What are you doing?"
"Bringing my board back in,"
"You want me to help?"
"No. I'm a big girl now,"
Jack smiled. Getting to his feet as he watched her jump down onto the sand. Picking up her board. Almost tripping up but recovered quickly. Bringing her board back inside. Resting it down on the floor by the door before she ran to follow Jack to the front doors.

Directors Office, Field Operations, CTU - Los Angeles

It had been only half an hour and she was already sweating. Covered in dust and dirt. More tired than she was before. Getting crankier by the second. She collapsed into half of the seat that was once there. The fires now put out. Giving it a warm feeling under her butt. As much as it would have felt comforting. She couldn't get settled. She moved to lean over the desk but remembered they'd already taken it out. She moved to lean back in the chair. Finding half of it missing. She shook her head. Pushing up out of the seat. Almost storming out if she had the strength to.

She sat outside on the steps. Putting her face into her hands. Closing her eyes behind closed fingers. Almost falling asleep if it wasn't for the hands that gently her shoulders. Hearing someone crouch down behind her. Soft lips kissing her cheek before a voice whispered,
"I don't think you're alright,"
Melissa smiled. Her hands dropping from her face as she replied back quietly,
"I'm just tired,"
Jack raised an eyebrow. Staying silent as he waited for the last of it,
"Very tired..." she paused, sighing heavily. Looking round before she asked, "Where's Amy?"
"She's with Morris. I'm surprised you didn't hear her scream," He chuckled, looking down at Morris. Melissa followed his gaze. Smiling as they watched Amy jumped off his lap and head for the stairs they were sat on. Quickly climbing up the stairs as Jack called to her,
"Be careful on those stairs sweetheart,"
Melissa smiled. Opening her arms as Amy moved to hug her. Holding her as tightly as she had done with Jack. Giggling,
"Hey mommy!"
"Hey."
"Why are you all dirty and wet?"
"I've been working baby. It's a dirty job,"
Amy giggled. Shaking her head before she giggled again,
"You're funny,"
Melissa smiled. Resting her head against Jacks before she asked,
"You get to surf?"
"No. Daddy took me for ice cream,"
"He did, did he?"
"Yeah! Strawberry!"
"And what did daddy have?"
"Chocolate!"
"Oh yeah? His favourite?"
"Yeah! Like yours mommy!"
Melissa smiled. Holding onto her hand as Amy sat down on her lap. Smiling and giggling as Melissa ran her fingers through her hair. Smiling as she looked back at Jack. Asking quietly,
"Louise was in the salon huh?"
"Yeah," Jack sighed, "Didn't take her two minutes,"
Melissa smiled. Stroking Amys hair before the little girl jumped off her lap. Heading back down the stairs when she saw Chloe coming out of a corridor. Following her over to her station. Jack smiled. Seeing the frustrated smile on Chloes face a mile off. He kissed Melissas cheek again before he whispered,
"I'll be right back,"
"Okay," she sighed, watching as he got up. Stepping past her and down the stairs.

Amy smiled. Looking over the side as she asked,
"What does that button do?"
"That sets of an alarm," Chloe answered bluntly,
"Can I press it?"
"No!"
"Amy," Jack called out to her, walking over to the station. The brunette turned to look at him. Standing back. Putting her hands behind her back as she replied,
"I wasn't doing anything wrong, daddy,"
He smiled. Leaning down to pick her up. Keeping her in his arms as he looked at her. Asking softly,
"You got something to say to Aunty Chloe?"
Amy pouted but gave in within seconds. Turning to Chloe as she apologized,
"Sorry Aunty Chloe,"
Chloe smiled slightly. Answering back,
"It's okay... Just don't touch anything,"
Amy nodded. Kissing Jacks cheek suddenly,
"Can I stand up now daddy?"
"Sure. Hang on,"
He turned round as he leaned down. Setting Amy down on her feet. Kissing her cheek before he whispered,
"Go back to mommy."
"Okay,"

Chloe peered over the top of the monitor. Watching the small infant race away. Heading back to Melissa as she stayed sat on the stairs. Jack turned back to Chloe. Resting his folded arms against the small wall on the station. Sighing heavily before he asked,
"Got anything on what happened?"
"Nothing yet. We won't know anything until forensics are finished searching the room,"
Jack nodded. About to turn away when Chloe suddenly added,
"There's something else though,"
"What?"
"There was an explosion last night at the CTU office in San Francisco,"
"Anyone hurt?"
"No. There was no one in the room when it went off,"
"Which department?"
"... Field Operations,"
"Field Operations,"
"Yeah. The director of the department was about to go up to their office when the bomb went off,"
"Any leads on how it got into the building?"
"Forensics couldn't find anything. And CCTV showed no likely suspects."
"Had anyone been in the office before it went off?"
"Only the guy who took the parcel up into the room,"
Jack nodded. Looking back at Melissa. Finding Bill crouched down next to her. He turned to Chloe for a moment,
"Call me on my cell when you have something, please,"
"Sure,"

Field Operations, CTU -Los Angeles

"I want you to go home. You're obviously not well," Bill whispered,
"I'm fine. I'm just tired." Melissa defended,
"I know. But I need people who can do their jobs,"
"I can do my job-"
"I know you can Mel. But I'm just thinking about your well being here." Bill paused. The two looking at Amy as she asked,
"Mommy?"
Melissa smiled, taking a small breath before she asked,
"What's up baby?"
"Are you sick?"
"No, I'm okay."
"Everything okay?" Jack asked as he started to climb the stairs. Melissa looked down at him and nodded. About to answer when Chloe suddenly shouted out to them,
"Mister Buchanan!"
The group got up from the stairs. Jack lifting Amy back up into his arms. Carrying her back down to the floor. Joining the others at Chloe station as Bill started,
"What is it, Chloe?"
"There's been another attack on a CTU office,"
"Where?"
"New York,"

Directors Office, CTU - Los Angeles

Amy was sat outside the room as Jack and Melissa stood inside. Stood by Bills desk as he sat in the chair opposite them. Karen stood by his side. Folding her arms as she told them,
"We have agents with the ability to handle these kinds of situations. You can go home Melissa, we'll call if we need expert help,"
"There's been three attacks! You can't send us home. You need us here,"
"I agree with your point of view. But you have a daughter to take care of who needs both mother and father."
Jack looked over at Melissa. Seeing the fatigue starting to take over. Noticing the gentle flutter of her eyes. She groaned quietly. Closing her eyes. Pressing the palms of her hands against her forehead. Whispering quietly as she started to fall,
"I think there's something wrong with me,"
Jack jumped into action. Karen stepping round to help as Bill stood up. Looking over his desk as Jack got down onto his knees. Melissa in his arms. Her eyes still shut as her arm laid against his chest. Her chest falling and rising gradually. Jack shook his head. Ignoring the slight brush of glass against carpet as Amy pushed the door open. Racing over to Melissa as Jack looked up at Bill. Quickly requesting,
"Have Doctor Bradson come up to this room!"
Bill nodded. Picking up the phone on his desk. Karen crouching down in front of Melissa as Bill ordered,
"Have Doctor Bradson come to my office. Immediately!"
"Is mommy sick?" Amy asked. Standing by Karen as she held the youngsters hand. Looking at the tiny brunette as she smiled. Shaking her head as she whispered,
"No. Your mom's just tired,"
"Is it because I woke her up?"
Jack turned to Amy in a flash. Shaking his head as he told her softly,
"No baby! No! It wasn't you!"

Amy shook her head. Her eyes on Melissa as Jack brought his attention back to her. Lifting her limp body into his arms. Cradling her safely as he got to his feet. Turning and walking to the couch. Laying her down gently as Amy walked over to her. Standing by Jack as he crouched down once more. Looking down at Melissa as she opened her eyes. Looking round the room weakly before she panted,
"What happened?"
"There's something wrong with you," Jack replied bluntly,
"No... I'm just tired,"
"You just collapsed. There's something wrong."
Melissa closed her eyes. Sighing heavily. Opening her eyes as Jack whispered,
"You said it yourself before you fell,"
She looked at him. Confused a little. Shaking her head slightly before she closed her eyes again. Never hearing Amys calls of,
"Mommy."

Jack shook his head. Standing up as Bradson came into the room. Looking at Bill first. He nodded towards the couch. Directing Bradsons view to the patient. He almost leapt forward. Minding Amy. Bradson moved in to make his diagnosis. Jack lifted Amy up into his arms. Holding her gently as the others backed away. Watching Bradson as he asked,
"Did she just fall unconscious?"
"She's unconscious?" Karen asked, "I thought she'd fallen asleep?"
Amy buried her face into Jacks neck. Her tears dampening and dribbling down his neck. He shushed her gently. Bouncing her a little as he whispered,
"Mommy's gonna be fine. She'll be fine, baby."
Her arms coiled round Jacks neck. Squeezing him slightly as her cries came in loud and clear. Karen turned round. Asking quietly,
"Do you want me to take her outside?"
Jack nodded. Bouncing Amy a little more before he turned his head back. His lips close to her ear as he whispered,
"Do you wanna go with Aunty Karen?"
"No," Amy sobbed, shaking her head in Jacks neck, "I want mommy,"
"Mommy's asleep. You wanna go with Aunty Karen? And I'll talk to mommy when she wakes up," "Okay baby?"
She whined gently. Bringing her head away from his neck. Looking Jack in the eye as she rubbed her own with a tiny fist. He smiled. Kissing her cheek as he whispered,
"Hey, she'll be okay."
Amy nodded again. Continuing to rub her eye before Jack whispered,
"You gonna go with Aunty Karen?"
"You want to go for some chocolate?" Karen asked softly,
"Can we bring some back for mommy?" Amy asked. Karen smiled and nodded. Smiling still as Jack handed Amy over to her. Kissing her cheek again before he watched the two leave.

Bradson took away the stethoscope. Setting it down on the floor as he moved to search his bag. The two men stepping forward quickly. Standing over him as Bill questioned,
"What's wrong with her? It can't just be fatigue?"
"No, it's not." Bradson sighed, taking out the tourniquet,
"What are you doing?" Jack asked, watching as he retrieved a syringe. Taking out a small capsule,
"I'm gonna take some blood," he explained, preparing everything. Gently slapping the inside of her elbow. Managing to find a vein. Pressing the needle in as he continued on, "I have a feeling it's something to do with her diet,"
"Her diet?" Bill repeated,
"What do you mean? She eats like any other healthy person," Jack answered, "There's nothing missing from her diet,"
"Does she eat meat?"
"No. She's a vegetarian,"
"There's your answer,"
"... She's anaemic?"
"I have feeling she might be." Bradson whispered, taking some of her blood. Jacks eyes flickered over to Melissas. Expecting to see her wake up and scream in horror. Then pass out from sheer shock of what was happening... She didn't move. Or flinch. Or wince or cringe. Jack stepped closer. Sitting down on a small space that was left on the couch as Bradson removed the needle. Setting it down in a small box beside him. He took the piece of cotton wool. A small piece of tape. Swiftly sticking it to the small spot of blood before he moved to tidy away his things. Getting to his feet as he informed them,
"I'll have the results in approximately five minutes. Leave her where she is. I'll call when I have them,"
"Thanks,"
Bradson nodded. Taking a quick look back at Melissa before he left the room.

7 minutes later...

Karen held Amys hand in hers as they started to climb the stairs back up to the office. Amys cheeks still a little red from the tears she'd cried. Steadily climbing the stairs. Two feet on each. A step at a time. Eating the bit of chocolate that was in her tiny hand. Karen holding the other pieces.

Jack was sat on the floor by the couch. Holding Melissas hand as Bill took up his chair at the desk again. Looking over at Melissa. Suddenly straightening. He leaned over slightly. His movement getting Jacks attention. He looked at Bill first before looking back behind him. Finding Melissa waking up again. A slight bit of colour returning to her cheeks. He turned a little more. Squeezing her hand gently as her eyes fluttered open. Smiling at her as he whispered,
"Hey,"
Melissa looked at him. Smiling a little as she whispered back,
"Hey... where am I?"
"You're in CTU. You're fine,"
"What happened to me?"
"Bradson thinks you're anaemic,"
"I'm what?" she breathed. Trying to sit up. Stopping when Jack moved in to stop her. Laying her down again as he answered,
"He thinks you're anaemic. He doesn't think you're getting enough Iron. If any,"
Melissa nodded. Looking up at the ceiling for a moment. Closing her eyes for the few brief seconds of silence until the phone in the room rang. Opening her eyes. The two turned to the desk. Watching Bill answer it in a flash,
"Buchanan... Yes... Okay... I'll tell them... Thank you,"
"What is it?" Jack asked,
"Bradson's just confirmed it. She's anaemic. He's coming up with some iron pills. One for her to take now. A small tub of them for you to take home,"
Jack nodded. Looking back at Melissa as she asked,
"Where's Amy?"

Her question was answered by the door opening. Tiny feet brushing against the carpet as Amy dragged her feet along the floor. Looking over at the couch. Jack got to his feet. The group smiling as Amy suddenly cried out,
"Mommy!"
Melissa smiled. Sitting up slightly. Laughing softly as Amy hugged her tightly. Jack smiled. Folding his arms as Karen joined him by his side. Smiling herself as she asked quietly,
"Is it anaemia?"
"Yeah. Doc's bringing up some pills for her to take,"
"That's good news,"
"Yeah," Jack breathed softly, smiling as he watched Amy kiss Melissas cheek. Hugging her again. Melissa shook her head. Laughing softly still as Amy sat down in front of her on the floor. Holding her hand as she asked,
"Can we go home now mommy?"
"Yeah. In a few minutes baby." She answered slowly. Jack moved forward. Crouching down behind Amy as he asked,
"Did you get mommy some chocolate?"
"Yeah!" Amy giggled, getting to her feet. Letting go of Melissas hand as she ran over to Karen. Thanking her as she handed her the chocolate. The infant turned round and ran back to the two. Holding it out to Jack as she told him with a smile,
"It's got carmel in it,"
"Carmel?" Bill asked. Jack smiled as Karen whispered,
"Caramel. She's only six Bill,"
The others smiled. Karen sitting down on the desk as Amy sat down with Jack. The group waiting for the pills to come.

Bradson knocked on the door before he walked inside. Finding the group still inside. He smiled. Nodding towards the two by the desk before he turned to the family on the floor. Walking over to them. He crouched down in front of Amy. Greeting her playfully,
"Hey Amy,"
"Hi!"
"You being a good girl?"
Amy nodded. Taking another tiny bite of the chocolate before she offered it to Bradson. He shook his head and politely declined. Asking her quietly,
"You looking after your mom?"
"Yep! Daddy is too!"
Bradson smiled and nodded. Watching her as she asked,
"Can mommy have the chocolate me and Aunty Karen got her?"
"Yeah! Of course she can! It will help her too!"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah! Want to go give it her with one of these?" he asked, holding up a small red pill.
Jack smiled. Leaning back against the couch. Holding Melissas hand as they continued to watch Amy talk and play with Bradson before they came over to the two again. Amy helping Melissa with her medicine before she gave her the chocolate.

Bradson stayed with them for half an hour before leaving. Checking her vitals again before he was satisfied. Giving them the green light to send her home. Karen walked with Amy back outside. Stopping on the way across the floor to give Aunty Chloe and Uncle Morris a goodbye hug and kiss. Bill and Jack helping Melissa walk out of the building. Getting her into the car. Making sure she was still okay before Bill and Karen went back into the building. Watching the family leave before they closed the doors behind them.

Amy looked up into the small mirror between her parents. Watching Melissa sleep again. She looked over at Jack. Asking with a whisper,
"Daddy?"
Jack glanced up into the mirror. Finding her looking at him. Realizing it wasn't his ear playing with him again. He asked with a whisper back,
"What's up sweetheart?"
"Is mommy okay?"
"Yeah baby. She's fine. Don't worry,"
"What's wrong with her?"
"It's a little hard to explain."
"Why?"
"Uh... You know that hot dog you ate the other day at the fair?"
"Yeah,"
"Remember when mommy didn't want one?"
"Yeah. Mommy doesn't like meat,"
"Yeah. There's something in hot dogs that's good for you. But since mommy doesn't eat hot dogs. She doesn't get it and it makes her feel sleepy,"
Amy nodded. Staying quiet. Looking out of the window. Giving Jack the impression that she was either confused at what he had just attempted to explain. Or her mind was busy working up another project to set off.

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles... 1849

They'd been home since just after two o'clock. Jack had gotten Melissa into bed. Waiting for the pills to work fully and give her some strength. Hoping the chocolate Amy had gotten her would work some magic as well. Amy was still outside. Playing on the beach as Jack sat at the table in the kitchen. Making a few calls. Checking over a few things before Amy came jumping up the steps. Running almost past Jack if it wasn't for his call out,
"Baby, watch yourself!"
"I need to go upstairs daddy! Mommy's up!"
Jack looked at her. Flipping his phone shut as he got up out of the chair. Amy reached up for the plate. Her own little project that got into the works with some help from Jack. The two sorting everything out before he followed her up the stairs. Making sure she wouldn't slip. Or drop anything.

Melissa shook her head as she forced herself up. Sitting on the bed with her knees crossed as she looked over at the clock. It was close to seven o'clock now. Her stomach rumbling. Smelling something coming up the stairs. She looked over at the bedroom door. Smiling as she watched Amy dash inside. Shouting happily,
"Mommy!"
Melissa smiled. Replying back cheerfully,
"Hey!"
Returning the hug Amy gave her as the youngster climbed onto the bed. Holding on tightly as Melissa asked,
"Where's daddy?"
"He's coming now! He helped me with my mission!"
"Your mission huh? And what would that be?"
"Food," Jack answered with a soft chuckle as he walked inside. Melissa looked over at him as he walked inside with the plate. Melissa smiled. Looking back at Amy as she started to explain,
"Daddy said hot dogs were good for you. And that you don't like them. And that was what was making you sleepy! So I made some!"
Melissa smiled. Looking at Jack as he sat down on the edge of the bed with Melissa. Setting the tray down as he whispered,
"Stay away from the ones on the left,"
Melissa nodded. Looking back at Amy as she whispered,
"Well aren't you a little angel,"
"A princess," Amy replied, smiling and posing like one. Melissa smiled. Kissing her cheek before she looked back at the food. Commenting with a smile,
"Don't these look delicious! I can't eat them all though. You guys having some?"
Amy nodded. Taking one of the hot dogs on the left. Melissa took one of the hot dogs on the right. Giving a questioning look at Jack. He nodded. Giving her the all clear. She smiled. Thanking him with a silent breath. He took his own food from the left side of the plate.

Her strength came back not long after. Getting the goodness she needed from the hot dogs they'd made. A bit of a push from the iron pill. And the extra spark from the sugar drinks. Amy was back outside on the beach. Running up and down a small space. Giggling as she looked back at the footprints she left behind her. Melissa was sat on the sand watching her. Jack behind her with his legs apart. Melissa sitting comfortably between them. Her back resting against his chest. Her hands holding his wrists as Jack wrapped his arms round her waist. Kissing her cheek before he whispered,
"So, how are you feeling now?"
"A lot better thanks,"
Jack smiled. Kissing her neck before he whispered,
"Good,"
"I'm sorry for being an idiot this morning,"
"Don't worry about it."
"Yeah but look what happened after all of this,"
"... This what you were thinking about this morning?"
Melissa nodded slowly. Releasing a heavy sigh before she started,
"I thought I was coming down with something. That's why I left it. I felt tired. But I thought that was just because Amy woke us up early."
"She was thinking it was her fault,"
"She didn't did she?"
"Yeah, she did,"
"Oh God,"
"Relax. I've told her about a million times now that it wasn't her fault."
"Hope she realizes that it wasn't her fault... God I hate for her to think that this was her fault when it wasn't,"
"Come on. Relax a little. Everyone knows it's just one of those things. You can relax,"
Melissa smiled and nodded. Looking up at Jack as he kissed her forehead. Looking down into her eyes before Amy suddenly squealed. The two looked ahead of them. Finding Amy running off from the water. Only to turn round and head back into the sea. Screaming and running again as a wave came charging towards her. They smiled and laughed. Watching her continue to attack and retreat.

The two joined her after a few minutes. Getting a little soaked. Sand covering and slightly staining their feet before they headed back inside. Getting a quick shower before they headed for bed. Tucking Amy into hers. Kissing her cheek softly before Melissa walked over to close the curtains. Jack smiled as Amy asked him,
"Daddy, you got rid of the spiders didn't you?"
"Yeah, baby don't worry," he whispered. Knowing Melissa was smiling as she watched them. Heading over to the bedroom door. Watching the two as Jack whispered, "Scared them all away,"
"Like a lion?"
"Yeah. Big scary Lion,"
Amy giggled as Jack gave her a quick growl. Hearing his own chuckle as he kissed her forehead. Making sure she was tucked in before he whispered,
"Night sweetheart,"
"Night daddy! Night mommy!"
"Night baby. Sweet dreams," Melissa called back to her. Smiling as Jack stood beside her. He turned out the light quietly. Dimming it almost all the way but left a slight glow lit. She was still going through her 'scared of the dark' phase. But she was getting better.

Melissa stepped across the landing as Jack walked out of the bedroom. Closing the door slightly before he turned and followed Melissa into their bedroom. She pulled back the covers with her left right. Turning on the lamp on her side of the bed with the left. She looked up at Jack as he closed the door. Smiling as she laughed quietly,
"Surprised I'm actually tired,"
Jack smiled. Heading over to the small bathroom. Turning on the light. Walking inside as he asked,
"You still feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry."
Jack nodded as he washed his face again. Drying it with the towel as he asked,
"How many pills do you need to take?"
"Just two. One with my lunch and another with my dinner,"
He nodded once more. Heading back out into the bedroom as Melissa took off the jeans she was wearing. Setting them down on the chair by the window. Closing the curtains as Jack started to get changed. Taking off his shirt and jeans. Just leaving on his boxers as Melissa turned back round. Wiping her hand on the shirt she wore before she climbed into bed. Slipping under the covers as Jack climbed into bed. Rolling over onto his side as Melissa reached over to turn out the light. Smiling and giggling as Jack wrapped his arm round her. Pulling her close. Kissing her neck softly as Melissa teased,
"So, you're a big scary Lion huh?"
He brought his lips to her ear. Growling tempting into her ear. Smiling and chuckling himself as she purred back. Staying still as she sighed heavily,
"God it's been bad today, hasn't it,"
"Just another one of those days. Get use to them."
"It's been nearly ten years and I'm still not use it,"
Jack kissed her again. Closing his eyes as he whispered,
"Get some sleep. Don't worry yourself about it all,"
Melissa nodded. Sighing heavily once more as she closed her eyes. Caressing his hand as she whispered,
"Goodnight Jack,"
He swallowed softly before he whispered,
"Goodnight sweetheart,"
He kissed her for the last time that night before he laid his head on the pillow. His face hidden behind hers as they quickly drifted into a deep sleep.

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles... 0859

A sudden scream startled them both out of their sleep. Melissa sat up as Jack jumped out of bed. Taking the gun out from the drawer on his bedside. Cocking it as he headed out of the bedroom. Running across the landing. Keeping the gun behind his back as he walked into Amys bedroom. Looking over at the infant as she curled up on her bed. Crying and screaming. Melissa followed Jack out of the bedroom. Looking over his shoulder until they both rushed into the bedroom. Jack heading for the windows. Peering through the curtains as Melissa raced over to Amy. Leaning over the bed. Gently shaking her as she asked,
"Baby, what's up?"
She got no response. Simply more tears and trembles. Melissa shook her head. Sitting down on the bed. About to ask her again when she saw it. Saw it from the corner of her eye. She looked towards it. Screaming herself. Jack jumped at the shock of it. Turning round. Keeping a firm hold of the gun behind his back. Looking over at her as he watched Melissa pick up Amy. Holding her crying daughter in her arms as she backed away from the bed. Jack looked over at the bed. Seeing it on the pillow. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He'd never seen one as big as this.

Melissa continued to back off as Amy continued to cry into her shoulder. Gripping Melissa hard. Frightening even as Melissa whispered,
"It's okay baby. It's okay. Daddy's gonna get rid of it,"
Jack replaced the safety on the gun before he tossed it to her, seeing Melissa hold out her hand. Catching it before she hid it behind her back. Keeping it out of view of Amys gaze. Watching as Jack grabbed a small box. Quickly and easily scooping the large spider into it before he turned to the windows. Opening the top window before he tossed the spider out. Watching as the more than small bug ran towards the edge and disappeared,
"It's gone,"
Melissa nodded. Thanking him quietly. Bouncing Amy gently as she whispered,
"It's gone, sweetie. Don't worry,"
"Daddy killed it?" she sobbed. Her face still in Melissas shoulder,
"Yeah he has,"
Jack smiled as he walked over to the two. Taking Amy off Melissa. Letting her head back into the bedroom. Hiding the gun away again. Coming back into the bedroom to hear Jack whisper playfully,
"Hey, that big scary Lion scared it away,"
Amy stayed quiet. Her sobs quietening more as she looked at Jack. Smiling and giggling as Jack wiped some of her tears away. Smiling at her as she asked,
"Big scary Lion?"
"Yeah,"
Melissa smiled, whispering softly,
"I'll be downstairs sorting out breakfast,"
Jack looked at her and nodded. Staying with Amy till she had relaxed again.

She'd only been downstairs ten minutes when she suddenly Amy scream. She put the mug down on the counter again. Turning to look behind her. Smiling and laughing as she watched Amy raced into the kitchen. Giggling and screaming playfully as she grabbed a hold of Melissas leg. Shaking it as she giggled,
"Mommy! There's a Lion chasing me!"
"Is there now? Where is he?"
Amy turned round. Giggling quietly as she moved away. Peering round the side of the breakfast bar. Melissa looked back at the drinks she was sorting out. Milk for Amy. Orange juice for herself. Jack going for the coffee. She was about to lift the kettle when a growl sudden came from behind her. Followed by a scream from Amy. Melissa turned round again. Smiling and laughing herself as she watched Amy race round the table. Jack on his hands and knees. Crawling after her as she ran into the living room. Jack crawling after her. There was another brief moment of silence till she heard Amy giggling and laughing. Melissa shook her head as she finished serving the drinks. Putting them onto the small tray before she turned to head into the living room.

Amy was still squirming and laughing on the couch. Jack still on his knees as he leaned over the couch. Tickling Amy till she was red in the face. Crying again but with tears of laughter. The two relaxing a little as Melissa set the tray down on the table. Taking the glass of the orange juice. Sitting down on the couch as she laughed,
"Don't let me stop you guys from playing,"
Jack smirked. Pushing up from the couch. Helping Amy to sit up before he picked up the glass of milk. Handing it to her before he started to shuffle over to Melissa. She took a small sip of the juice before looking at Jack. Smiling as she cautiously asked,
"What?"
He shrugged his shoulders. The smirk still on his face as Melissa set the glass down. About to get up and run but the Lion caught her in his paws. Bringing her back down onto the couch. Laughing and squirming on the couch. Trying to get him to stop but loving every second of it.

Comm Team, CTU - Los Angeles

Morris stared at the screen in front of him as he read the bulletin. Chloe and Milo looking over his shoulder. Reading it for themselves before Milo asked,
"Do the Bauers know about this?"
"Not yet," Morris answered, "Think we should call them?"
"It's their day off today isn't it? Doesn't Amy start school again tomorrow?"
"And?" Chloe asked,
"Don't you think they'll want some time to themselves before she starts school? Get her prepared,"
"It's school Milo. Not a suicide mission,"
"For some of us, it was darlin," Morris commented,
"What?" Milo asked,
"Nothing mate." Morris replied quickly. Sitting up as he reached over for his phone. The two behind him stepping away as he dialled for the house phone,
... "Hi!"
"Amy? What you doing on the phone?"
"My daddy's with mommy,"
"Can you get one of them for me please?"
"They're busy doing-"
"Jack!"

Morris froze when he heard Melissa shouting in the background. Giggling and screaming still. Clearing his throat, Morris started,
"Maybe I should call back later,"
"I'll get my mommy. Daddy should be stopping soon,"
"Heh. Really?"
"Yeah! He goes really fast!"
"... I bet he does,"

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Melissa sat up when Amy came rushing back into the living room. Holding the phone out to the two on the couch. Finding Jack on top of her again. Stopping his teases. Turning to look back at Amy. The two flushed and panting. Sweating badly. It would be easily to mistake what they were actually doing. Melissa cleared her throat. Releasing a heavy sigh,
"Phew... God you wear me out," she giggled. Tapping Jacks shoulder. The two smiling as they heard Morris on the other end of the phone,
"You want me to call back later?"
Jack smiled. Pushing up to his knees. Thanking Amy as he took the phone off her. Watching her head back upstairs as Jack put the phone onto speaker,
"You're on speaker phone Morris. Go ahead,"
"What the hell were you two doing?"
"What do you wanna know?"
"The fact that I heard Melissa scream your name was a little misleading, mate,"
Melissa smiled. Laughing as Jack defended themselves,
"I was messing around Morris. What do you want?"
"Thought you might want to know that there's been another explosion,"
Melissa tensed up. Asking quickly,
"Where exactly?"
"DC CTU... Field Operations,"
"Have you got anything on that?"
"Not yet. Still waiting for all the details to come in,"
"Does Bill want us in?" Jack asked,
"He hasn't said mate. Better off staying at home till he calls."
"Alright,"
"Does forensics have anything on what happened here in LA?" Melissa asked before Morris could hang up,
"Not yet. We're still not sure what caused the explosion,"
"Alright,"
"Call us when you've got more information Morris," Jack ordered,
"Sure thing mate,"
"Thanks."

Jack hung up. Tossing the phone onto the side before he looked back at Melissa. Finding her locked in some sort of trance. He leaned over slightly. Prodding her gently,
"Hey,"
She inhaled deeply. Looking back at Jack as she asked,
"What?"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine,"
"Iron tablet?"
"No." she replied smiling, "No. Not yet."
Jack nodded. Watching her as she stayed silent for a moment. Suddenly getting up as she asked,
"Ready for breakfast?"
"Sure,"
Melissa nodded. Heading into the kitchen as she called to Amy,
"Amy! Come and get some breakfast!"
"I'm coming!" she shouted from her bedroom. Coming out again with a small unicorn soft toy. Jack was heading out of the living room when Amy came down the stairs. Smiling as she cheered,
"Hey daddy!"
"Hey sweetheart! Who's that?"
"It's sparkle. Give her a kiss?"
Jack smiled. Lifting Amy up into his arms. Holding her as he walked into the kitchen. Amy holding the unicorn to his face,
"Sparkle wants a kiss,"
"She's a lady Jack," Melissa teased, taking breakfast out of the cupboards, "Don't disappoint now,"
Jack smirked. Chuckling quietly before he gave the unicorn a kiss. Kissing Amys cheek before he put her down on the feet.

The three enjoyed their breakfast outside on the deck. Enjoying the sunshine. The cool breeze. The view of the sun, sand and sea. Letting it all settle for an hour before Amy raced back inside. Jack steadily following her upstairs as Melissa stayed outside. Watching a few families on the beach. Smiling as she watched the kids running about. Remembering a few memories. Almost bringing herself to tears but she fought them back. Taking in a deep breath as she pushed herself to her feet. Tidying the deck outside before she headed back inside. Sorting things out. About to start the day when she suddenly got hit by a flashback. The spider this morning had shook her. Remembering that day all those years ago. She gasped. Grabbing a hold of the side.

Jack was heading back downstairs when he heard the gasp. Amy coming down behind him,
"Daddy," she whispered,
"What's up baby?" he whispered back,
"Your down,"
He smiled. Knowing exactly what she was talking about. Asking quietly,
"You wanna zip it up?"
Amy grabbed the top of the zip and lifted it. Jack smiled and turned round. Checking her wetsuit before he turned back round. Heading down the stairs. He stepped into the kitchen as Amy raced round him. Giggling as she ran out of the doors. Melissa didn't move. Staring out of the window. Shaking her head before she started to move again. Moving to go upstairs. To be alone. When she came face to face with Jack. His eyes locked on hers as he whispered,
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm fine. I'll just go and get dressed and come outside to watch you guys in a sec,"
"Mel, there's something wrong. I can see it,"
She shook her head. Scratching at her hair before Jack asked,
"What is it?"
"It's nothing. Don't worry. I'm just having another... bloody bad damn day,"
Jack watched as she walked round him. Trying to get to the stairs when Jack grabbed her arm. Turning her round. Pulling her close as she objected,
"No. Jack. I'm okay."
"Come here," he whispered,
"No. I'm alright. I swear," she panted, "I just..."
She fell silent as Jack pulled her close. Holding her close to him as Melissa held onto him. Closing her eyes. Crying softly as she whispered,
"Why won't it go? Why won't it bloody go away!"
"I told you we should have taken you to see someone about it,"
"It's been almost ten years. I thought it would have gone by now."
"Breathe. You're alright."

Melissa swallowed hard. Opening her eyes as she whispered,
"When Chappelle gets out of jail... I'm gonna kill him. He's done... he's done too much,"
Jack smiled as he stroked the back of her hair. Keeping her close. Resting his head against hers before he whispered,
“You should have talked to me about this when it happened,”
“I would have if it actually hit me when I saw that thing in the bedroom,”
“You sure there’s nothing else bothering you?”
“I don’t think so…”
“Well, you know I’ll be here if you need to talk about something,”
She nodded slowly. Sighing softly when Jack pulled away. Brushing back some of her hair. Tucking it behind her ears as he wiped away a dribbling tear from her cheek. Smiling at each other before he kissed her forehead softly. Kissing her cheek lovingly before Amy came back inside,
“Daddy, are you gonna surf?”
“Yeah baby. I’ll be out there in a minute,”
“Okay,”
They smiled and watched her leave. Heading back outside onto the beach. Jack looked back at Melissa as he stroked her cheek again. Asking quietly,
“You alright?”
Melissa nodded. Wiping her eye before she whispered,
“Yeah, I’m fine. Go on, I’ll be out there in a sec,”
“Okay,”

He kissed her again before turning to leave. Melissa about to do the same when the phone rang. Jack groaned. Turning round. Pressing down speaker as he answered,
“Hello,”
”It’s Morris,”
Melissa stopped. Heading over to the side as Jack asked quickly,
“You have something?”
”Yeah. Another bombing,”
“Another one?”
“Where was it this time?” Melissa asked,
”Houston, Texas,”
Jack stared down at the table for a second. Till something suddenly clicked. Staying silent as he raised his head. Melissa looked at him. Seeing that glint in his eyes. That spark. She replied quickly to Morris,
“We’ll call you back, Morris,”
"Alright, darlin,”
She hung up. Inching closer to Jack as she asked,
“What is it?”
His eyes flickered to hers. Starting to live again as he whispered,
“I think we’re being targeted.”
“Us? How did you figure that out?”
“The first bombing was in San Francisco right?”
“Yeah,”
“Remember anything yet?”
“… The lecture we gave out to the field agents,”
“Right. Los Angeles was next. We live here.”
“New York was next… which was where we have that meeting with the new director of field operations in two days,”
“Washington DC,”
“The meeting with President Palmer last week… but Houston?”
They stayed silent. Trying to figure out the last piece till Melissa asked,
“What’s the name of the field ops director there?”
“Amanda…” Jack answered but paused. Their idea confirmed as he finished, “Jackson,”
“Oh my God…”
“Someone is out to get us,”

Directors Office, CTU - Los Angeles

Bill was in his office once again that morning. Karen stood in front of him at his desk. Going over the recent attacks on the cities when Chloe walked into the room,
"I thought you might want to know this Mister Buchanan," she started. Standing by Karen as Bill looked up at her. Taking off his glasses as he asked,
"What is it, Chloe?"
"Jack is coming into CTU with Melissa,"
"Who told them about the attacks?"
"Morris thought they deserved to know,"
"Great," Bill sighed. Karen shook her head. Waiting for Chloe to turn and leave before she started,
"We can't have them here, Bill."
"I know that Karen. I'll get one of them on their cells right now,"

En route to CTU - Los Angeles

They'd dropped Amy off at one of her friends house on their way over to CTU. Knowing she would be safe there. And out of harms way. Jack driving towards CTU when Melissas cell phone rang. He glanced down at it as she retrieved it from her pocket. Flipping it open as Jack commented,
"Probably someone from CTU,"
"Yeah" Melissa sighed, bringing the phone to her ear, "Bauer,"
"What are you doing?"
"Bill-"
"Turn the car around and go home,"
"Listen to me! Jack has an idea about the bombings,"
"What? We don't even have links ourselves. How could you possibly have something on this?"
"It's just an idea."
She stayed silent for the few seconds that Bill released the heavy sigh. Picturing him massaging his temples as he stayed connected on the other end. Taking in a deep breath before he replied,
"Alright. How far out are you?"
"About five minutes,"
"What about Amy?"
"We've dropped her off at a friends house,"
"Okay."

Melissa hung up the phone quickly. Tossing it onto the dashboard. Looking over at Jack as he asked quietly,
"Bill doesn't want us in?"
"Doesn't sound like it."
Jack shook his head as Melissa turned away. Looking through the windshield as he reasoned,
"This is effecting all of the country. He's gonna need us there,"
"Unless he's figured the same thing out as you did,"
"If he had, he would have placed teams outside the house to protect us,"
"What if they don't wanna give the attackers the message that we know someone's after us?"
"It won't matter. We've got a six year old to look after. We can't let anyone get to her,"
Melissa nodded. Looking out of her side window. Shaking her head before Jack whispered,
"I can't think of anyone who would be coming after us..."
"Me neither... The people that want me dead are dead themselves or are in prison..."
"... I know someone..."
She looked back at him in an instant. Asking quickly,
"Who?"
"... Remember the time during the D virus case?"
"Yeah. But all those guys are dead,"
"Not all of them,"
Melissa stayed silent. Names racing through her mind till she came to a staggering stop. Taking a deep breath before a small whisper escaped her lips,
"Nina Myers?"
Jack nodded gradually. Tapping the steering wheel before he brought the car to a stop at a set of traffic lights. Looking over at Melissa as she objected,
"Nina Myers is locked away in a federal prison. There's no way she could get any information to anybody. Or even get any information... She's in a cage! She can't get to us!"
"Then who do you suggest?"

Their eyes remained locked on each other. Shaking her head as Melissa turned away. Letting her head fall back against the headrest. Closing her eyes before she muttered,
"I don't know." she paused for a second. Opening her eyes before she whispered, "I can't think of anybody."
Jack looked back at the road. Shaking his head as he started the car again. Driving on past the lights. Heading towards CTU. Names continuing to be juggled and tossed away in their heads. Shaking their heads occasionally. Huffing at the failures they encountered.

Directors Office, CTU - Los Angeles

"What exactly could they have come up with?" Karen questioned, "They have no evidence. They have no links. No suspects!"
"Melissa said that Jack had an idea."
"... What else?"
"She didn't say,"
"She just said that Jack an idea?"
Bill nodded. Glancing down at the floor. Getting up from his seat as he announced,
"They're here now."
Karen turned and looked through the glass walls. Watching the two head for his office. They turned themselves and headed for the room door. Opening it and stepping out onto the staircase.

Jack got a hold of Melissas arm. Stopping her when he spotted the two coming down towards them. Morris picked up his laptop. Logging out of his station as he got up from his seat. Coming at them from behind. Quickly whispering,
"What are you two doing here?"
"Here to get this mess sorted out," Melissa whispered back as Bill and Karen approached them. Karen the first to object,
"You should both be home with your daughter!"
"Karen," Bill responded,
"They have a six year old to take care of, Bill! They shouldn't be here!"
"We have a job to do," Jack fought back, "This is why we sorted out the week on, week off schedule. We can both handle this."
"Then which one of you is staying?"
"Both of us."
Karen sighed. Shaking her head. About to continue to argument when Bill brought it to an end,
"I need you both in the situation room. Chloe is setting up a conference call between the President and the joint chiefs,"
The group nodded. Morris stepping around them. Joining Karen as she turned and headed for the room. Jack watched her leave before he brought his gaze back on Bill. Asking curiously,
"What's going on?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're not wanting either of us here in this office. There's gotta be a reason,"
Bill shook his head. Looking between the two before he replied,
"There's no reason. We just want you to spend as much as time as possible with your daughter,"
The reason wasn't satisfactory. Not by a long shot. Bill knew it. The two watching as Melissa shook her head. Stepping round them and making her way over to the situation room. Jack following her as Bill turned to walk with him.

Situation Room, CTU - Los Angeles

Morris and Chloe were set up at the far end of the table. Karen and Bill taking the seats in the middle. As Jack stood with Melissa against the back wall. Her arms folded as she waited for the screens to appear. Keeping her eyes on the screen as she whispered silently,
"What happened after I left?"
"Nothing really."
She nodded. Clearing her throat as she unfolded her arms. Sighing heavily before the screens flashed on. President Palmer appearing on the left. The joint chiefs appearing on the right,
"Mister President," Bill greeted, "Can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear,"
"You're also on with Karen Hayes. Chloe and Morris O'Brien. And field agents Jack and Melissa Bauer... As you all know. There have been another two attacks. The first in CTU New York. And the second in the CTU office in Houston, Texas."
"Do we have any suspects?"
"No sir. The only link we have is that the explosions destroyed Field Operations in each office,"
"No other department?"
"No sir. We're still investigating how the bombs were allowed to be brought into the building,"
"May I ask, why we've been brought into this conference call if you have no worthy leads, mister Buchanan?" a member of the Joint Chiefs requested,
"Director of Field Operations, Agent Jack Bauer. Claims to have an idea about the bombings,"
"An idea?"
"What kind of idea is this, Jack?" Palmer asked. His hands clasping together. His fingers interlocked as Jack stepped forward. Melissa watching him as he started to explain,
"I believe myself, Melissa and my daughter have been targeted by an unknown group,"
He paused when he felt the tension rise within the room. Palmer tensing as much as Bill and Karen did. Looking up at Jack as Morris lanced over the laptop. Chloe turning to look at Jack as Palmer inquired,
"How did you, arise to this conclusion?"
"The locations of the bombings are connected to our schedule. In two days time, myself and Melissa were to attend a meeting with the director of Field Operations in the office in New York. A week ago, we were present at meeting with yourself sir in Washington DC where another bombing took place. Our city of residence is of course, Los Angeles. Three days ago, we were in San Francisco to lecture the new field agents in the office there."
"What about Houston? You haven't been there within the past month," Karen questioned,
"We believe that the people behind these attacks were misled by the name of the current director of Field Operations in that office."
"Who is it?" Bill asked,
"A woman by the name of Amanda Jackson," Chloe answered for him. Looking at Melissa as Jack added,
"Melissas maiden name,"
"What do you intend to do now you have this information?" the chief asked, "Have teams protect you at all hours?"
"I suggest we all take a break. I will have secret service go over strategies." Palmer suggested, "In the mean time, I would like to be kept informed of future developments, please Bill,"
"Yes mister President,"

The call ended. Bill turning the chair to face the two behind him. Asking, almost angrily,
"And you were gonna inform us of this?"
"I told you that Jack had an idea," Melissa replied,
"You didn't think to tell me on the phone?"
"Because Jack knew what he was talking about. I was still a little shocked if you hadn't had noticed,"
"Okay, relax," Jack shouted, moving to stand between the two, "It doesn't matter when or how this was gonna get out. It was gonna get out anyway!"
Melissa nodded. Stepping away. Taking a seat at the other end of the table. Watching as Jack stepped back. Looking down at Bill as he looked back at him. Starting casually,
"We'll have a team set up at the house,"
"No,"
"No?"
"You're going to need some form of protection, Jack," Karen debated, "You have a daughter,"
"Exactly the reason why we shouldn't have a team at the house. The last thing we want to happen is to have her scared."
"Doesn't she know about this?"
"Luckily for us, she was outside when Jack figured all this out," Melissa explained, "... I agree with Jack. We're both trained agents. We can protect our daughter as well as ourselves."
"These are professionals who are using bombs to get to you. What do you think will happen if they manage to get your location?"
"The only way they could do that is by getting into our systems. But our firewalls have been upgraded. The codes have been changed. Nobody can get in," Chloe informed them, "The only way they could, is by someone on the inside,"

Jack turned round to look through the glass walls. Scanning the heads of the comm team. Groups in talks. Others working from their stations. The occasional passers by. Melissa followed his gaze. Asking aloud,
"You think we have another mole?"
"There's always the possibility." Jack muttered back in response,
"It's becoming far too easy for them to get into our agencies." Karen stated, "You think we should interrogate each of our staff?"
"It would help us if we knew what was happening in this office. Before we start to tackle the troubles outside these walls,"
"I'll have Burke on it right away," Bill sighed, reaching for his phone.

Jack turned to walk out. Melissa not too far behind him as she got up from her seat. Following him out of the room. The two about to head up to their office when they remembered that it still wasn't there. She brought her eyes to rest on him. Stepping closer as she whispered,
"What do you want to do?"
"I think we should help Burke with the interrogations. Get through them sooner. Hopefully, if we find something, we can use to our advantage. Maybe predict the next attack,"
She nodded. Looking back as Morris came up behind them,
"Bill wants you both to help out the interrogations,"
"Okay,"
"You're gonna be in interrogation three. Burke will be in interrogation room seven,"
"Thanks,"

Observation Room, Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

The room had been prepped and ready for use when Jack walked inside. Finding Melissa already in the observation room. Chloe sat at the small station. The scanners positioned and ready. Already bringing in results from their first suspect. Jack stepped closer to Melissa as she folded her arms. Watching the agent in the interrogation room. Glancing to her left when she heard the last taps of Jacks boots on the floor. Standing beside her. He asked with a faint voice,
"Who we got?"
"His name's Andreas Crank. New communications agent,"
"When did he start?"
Jack nodded. Looking down at the file she had in her hands. Flicking it open. She brought her gaze down upon it as Jack raised his. Looking through the two way mirror as she described,
"Thirty eight years old. Born in Seattle, Washington. Three brothers. Four sisters. Ex-Marine."
"What happened?"
"Three of his fingers on his left hand, and two on his right, were shot off during a mission in the Arctic."
"When?"
"A year ago today. Marines forced him into retirement. And was recommended to our office by Secretary of Defence Heller,"
Jack nodded. Looking over at Chloe as she reported,
"Everything's set."
"Copy that... Let's go,"

Four hours later...

Observation Room, Interrogation Room 7, CTU - Los Angeles

Bill and Karen stood present behind the mirror. Watching Burke interrogate their sixth suspect. A female agent from the Communications team. Milo Pressman at the workstation. Monitoring the scanners and results. The group glancing back as the door to the room was opened. Melissa stepped inside. Closing the door behind her. Stepping forward to stand side by side with Bill. Watching Burke continue on with the interrogation. Their gazes never leaving the scene as Melissa reported in,
"Crank. Montague. Tennant and Arnett are clean."
"Good,"
"Nothing here?"
"Not yet... Where's Jack?"
"He's still in interrogation room three. Questioning one of the field agents,"
"Hopefully all of this won't have been necessary,"
"I hope so..."

Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

Looking down into the eyes of the agent sat across from him. Jack kept his gaze cold and frozen on her. Taking a chance that she may just break through silence. Rather than scream it out of her. An ear piece in his left ear giving him the sounds of the room behind them. The woman shook her head. Asking quickly,
"Why am I here anyway?"
...
"Agent Bauer?"
...
"... Is this about the bombings?"
"Know something we don't?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
Jack stayed silent. Staring at her continually. The woman trembled under his gaze. Swallowing hard to soak her drying throat before she whispered,
"I wanna talk to Agent Bauer,"
"You are,"
"I mean your wife,"
"Why would you rather talk to her?"
"I... I don't feel comfortable with this,"
"Why? What's making you feel uncomfortable?"
"I'm sorry sir but... you scare me,"

Observation Room, Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

Chloe kept her eyes on the screens. Ignoring the opening of the door behind her. Acknowledging Melissas presence as she stepped back inside. Closing the door behind her as she asked,
"Who is he in with now?"
"Field Agent Monica O'Neill."
She nodded. Standing in front of the mirror. Watching Jack remain frozen. Monica trembling still. A moment of silencing passing them before a pattern of beeps echoed from the speakers to her right. Her eyes flickered over to Chloes station. Coming back to rest on the mirror as she reported to them both. Speaking loud enough for the microphone to pick it up.

Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

Jack stayed still. Staying in the same stance. His hands remaining locked together. Staring at Monica as Chloes voice reported in,
"There's an abnormality in her heart rate,"
"Could it be nerves?"
Melissa asked in response,
"No. They're not showing the same signs. She's holding something back,"

Part 6

Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

Jack stiffened slightly. Inhaling deeply but quietly. Monica shook her head. About to back off at the movement. She swallowed hard when she felt her throat suddenly turn to sandpaper. She shook her head. Demanding,
"I want to speak to your wife!"
"Mel. Get in here,"
A moments silence filled the room before the beeping of the door being unlocked startled Monica. She jumped in her seat. Gasping at the noise. Feeling a slight easiness fill her when she saw the door open. Melissa stepping into the room. Closing the door behind her. Staring at Monica as she defended herself,
"Listen to me! I don't know who is after you guys with these bombs! Why would I attack you guys if I work for you?"
"You tell us," Jack responded, "We know you're holding something back,"
"I'm not holding anything back," Monica panted. Looking at Melissa when she told her,
"The scanners tell us differently,"
"I swear to you! I have no idea what you're both talking about!"
...
"Can I just talk to you please agent Bauer?"
"You are,"
"Alone,"
Melissa sighed. Looking at Jack as he got up from his chair. Walking over to Melissa. Whispering quietly to her,
"I need to talk to you,"
Monica watched the two leave. About to question them when the door closed behind them.

Observation Room, Interrogation Room 3, CTU - Los Angeles

Melissa turned round as Jack closed the door behind him. Asking him quickly,
"What's up?"
"Any idea why she'd rather talk to you?"
"How should I know?"
Jack shook his head. The two turning to Chloe as she asked,
"Maybe she is scared of you,"
"Who?" Melissa asked, "Me?"
"No. Jack,"
She looked back at Jack. Asking quietly,
"She told you that and you didn't think it'd be true?"
Jack shook his head. Sighing heavily before the phone in the room rang suddenly. They turned round once more. Watching Chloe answer the phone,
"Interrogation room three... Yeah he's here. Hold on," She paused, holding the phone out to Melissa, "It's Celine,"
"Oh God," she breathed, running over to her. Jack joining her as Melissa answered,
"Celine?... Yeah... I have no idea how long we'll be. Why?... What!... Is she alright?... She what!... Oh my God... Uh..."
Melissa looked back at Jack as he whispered,
"What?"
"Amy's had to go the emergency room,"
"What!"
She went back to the phone as she asked,
"Are you still at the hospital?... Okay..."
Melissa glanced back at Jack again as he whispered,
"I'll go. You stay here,"
"Celine, Jack's coming over to the hospital... I'll try and finish up here as soon as I can... Okay... Thank you so much for calling... Okay... I'll see you tomorrow morning... Alright... Bye,"
Melissa hung up with a heavy sigh. Shaking her head as Jack asked,
"What happened?"
"Amy and Daphne were playing in the garden on the trampoline. Amy fell off and hit her arm on the concrete,"
"She's broken her arm?"
"They don't know. She was just going in for an x-ray when Celine called."
"Are you sure you can finish up here?"
"Yeah! Yeah, I'll be fine. Go!"
"Alright."

Chloe looked back at the monitors as Jack kissed Melissas cheek,
"I'll see you at the hospital,"
"I won't be long,"
Jack nodded. Kissing her again before he rushed out of the room. Finding Bill and Karen out in the corridor,
"Jack," Bill called to him. Jack staggered to a stop. Turning round as Karen asked,
"Where are you going?"
"The hospital,"
"The hospital?"
"Yeah. We've just had a call that Amy's there,"
"Oh my God! Is she alright?"
"We don't know. She fell off a trampoline and landed on the concrete. Hit her arm badly,"
"What about Melissa?" Bill questioned, "Is she still interrogating O'Neill?"
"Yeah. She's gonna finish up with Monica and then-"
"Thank God you're still here," Melissa breathed, coming out of the room,
"What about O'Neill?"
"Oh she's clean. Don't worry."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. Don't worry."
"So what was the abnormality?"
"I um... I'll tell you in the car. Come on,"
Bill nodded. Letting them go before Jack could get their clearance.

En route to LA General Hospital - Los Angeles

Jack raced past a street of parked cars as Melissa grabbed her cell phone again. Connecting to Celines phone,
"... Celine! It's me. How is she?... Yeah... Yeah... Alright... Tell the doctor we're on our way... Don't worry... Girl relax. It's okay... We'll be there in about five minutes... Okay... Bye,"
"Amy out of x-ray?"
"Yeah. They're just waiting for the doctor to come with the pictures,"
Jack nodded. The car almost screeching round a corner as he brought it round a sharp right. Seeing the hospital just up ahead. Jack glanced at her before he asked,
"So, how do you know that O'Neill was clean?"
"Want to know what she was holding back?"
"Was it about us?"
"In a way it was,"
"In a way? What do you mean?"
Melissa smiled. Shaking her head before she whispered,
"She dreamt about us."
"And that was what she was holding back? Why would anyone want to hold that back?"
"Well if you dreamt about having a three way with your bosses. Would you let anybody and everybody know?"
"... No, not really,"
Melissa smiled. Laughing softly before Jack whispered,
"So, we've embarrassed her,"
"I think she was embarrassed already Jack. It was just the cherry on the cake when she had to tell me it."
"Strange how she felt more comfortable telling you this and not me."
"Well the details she went into-"
"You were in the room for barely three minutes,"
"Yeah. She was pretty fast about describing what happened,"
Jack shook his head. Bringing the car to a stop in the hospital car park.

Examination Room, LA General Hospital - Los Angeles

Celine, a slightly taller woman with blue eyes and blonde hair. Her daughter Daphne, the spitting image of her were sat with Amy in the examination room. Her cheeks stained with tears. Her shoulders jumping with her cries. Celine tried her best to comfort her. But Amy continued to cry, whining quietly,
"I want my mommy!"
"Your mommy's coming now."
"And daddy!"
"He's coming too, chick! Okay,"
Amy sniffed and nodded. The three looking behind them when they heard Melissa's voice,
"Hey. We're looking for our daughter,"
"What's her name please?"
"Amy Bauer,"
"Mel!" Celine shouted. She looked through the small space at the back of reception. Spotting Celine. Seeing Daphne sat with Amy. Melissa grabbed Jacks hand. Dragging him with her as they ran past the receptionist. Ignoring her shouts as they ran over the small examination room. Celine smiled as she turned round. Picking up Daphne as the two came inside. Seeing the state of Amys arm. Bruised badly. Swollen,
"Oh God," Melissa whispered, "That looks nasty,"
Jack hissed. Shaking his head before Amy reached out for him. Crying as she squeezed her eyes shut. Melissa turned to talk to Celine as Jack sat down on the bed. Holding Amy gently as they waited for the doctor to arrive.

Daphne stayed with Celine in the waiting area. The two leaving as the doctor arrived a few minutes later. Finding Jack with Amy on his lap. Holding her gently as Amy held onto Melissas hand. Her tears slightly dried up as the doctor arrived. A female doctor. Another blonde but with brown eyes. Introducing herself with a smile,
"Hey, I'm Doctor Michelle Greenwood. The x-rays have just come back."
"Is it broken?"
"No. It's not. She was very lucky. It's severely bruised and slightly swollen, as you can see there. But just to give her some support. I would like to have it wrapped in a bandage. Just to give her some comfort if she rests it against something. Or accidentally bangs it,"
"Thank you."
"No problem. I'll just go get some ice to try and get rid of the swelling. I'll be right back,"
Jack nodded. Looking down at Amy as Melissa smiled at her. Asking softly,
"I know something we can do. How about we go get your stuff for school tomorrow. And then we'll go out and get you an ice cream for being such a big girl, huh?"
Amy nodded. Smiling as she asked,
"What about daddy?"
"Yeah. We'll get daddy one too,"
Amy giggled and nodded. Giggling more as Jack started to bounce her gently on his knees. Smiling as they listened to her giggle. Cheering her up until Greenwood came back with her bag of tricks.

Jack held her a little tighter but not too restricting. Letting her squirm a little as Greenwood sat on the chair in front of the bed. Smiling as she whispered to Amy,
"Don't worry chick. This is just gonna feel cold,"
"No. I don't want it," Amy whined,
"It'll make your arm feel better,"
Amy shook her head. Crying again as she turned her head round. Burying it into Jacks shoulder. Her hand squeezing Melissas she as she cried,
"I wanna go home,"
"We will baby. We will. Just let this nice lady help you," Melissa whispered,
"I'm not gonna hurt you sweetheart," Greenwood soothed, "I'm going to help you feel better,"
Amy shook her head. Her tears starting to dampen Jacks shirt. Burying her head a little more into his shoulders when she felt Greenwood gently take her arm. Holding her hand as Jack whispered,
"She won't hurt you baby. She's going to help you,"
Amy shook her head. Opening her eyes and looking at Melissa as she whispered to her,
"Remember yesterday when I had to do as the doctor told me,"
She sniffed before answering quietly,
"Yeah,"
"That's what this lady's going to do."
"Your mommy not very well yesterday?" Greenwood asked. The three hoping it would take her mind off it. Feeling a little more relieved when Amy started to respond to it.

It took a few minutes for her to get used to the icy touch of the chilly feel of the ice cubes on her skin. Jumping and jolting with each brush of it against her skin. Almost slipping off of Jacks legs. Holding onto Melissas hand harder now. Trembling. Jack holding her still. Watching as Greenwood quickened her pace. Trying to get this over and done with quickly. Getting her arm wrapped up with soft, cotton like pads wrapped around her arm. Jack lifted her up off his lap. Keeping her in his arms as Melissa got up from her seat. The two thanking Greenwood for her help before they headed out.

They called Bill again. Informing them of what was happening. Getting orders in response to stay away from CTU. Stay with Amy and take care of her. They took the afternoon off. Spending it with Amy. Buying her things for school before having lunch out at the food court. Making sure she was fine. Buying painkillers just in case. They bought the ice cream they'd promised her on the way home. Their plans of teaching her how to surf delayed until they knew they'd have free time on their hands.

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

They were sat outside in the evening again. Watching Amy as she sat on her surfboard. Staring at the sea. Melissa sat on the steps that led up to the deck. Resting against the step above her. Watching her just sit there. Watching birds fly by. Waves crash. Twirl and twisting the heels of her feet into the sand beneath them. Jack walked out onto the deck with a bottle of water. Stopping at the table. Noticing the silence. The distance between them. He feared something had gone off. Walking over to Melissa. He sat down on the same step next to her. Sighing heavily as he looked at Amy. Noticing how she didn't move. Melissa sighed heavily on suit. Looking at Jack as he asked quietly,
"What happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"Amy's a little quiet, isn't she?"
"I think she's nervous about tomorrow," she whispered, the two looking back at Amy, "And then there's all this with her arm. And not being able to learn how to surf,"
"There's always the weekend. When her arm is better,"
"I think that's what disappointing her,"
Jack shook his head. The two watching her still for a few minutes before Melissa called out to her,
"Amy. Baby are you come back inside?"
...
"It's starting to get a little chilly. Don't want you getting a cold,"
...
"Amy?"
...
Melissa got up from the step. Holding Jacks hand as he followed her. The two walking over to the infant as she remained on her surfboard. Jack calling out to her now,
"Amy?"
...
"Come on sweetheart. School tomorrow,"
They shook their heads at the continued silence. Coming round to the front of her. Seeing her tears. Melissa crouched down in front of her. Asking worriedly,
"What's wrong?"
Amy stared at her. Staying silent but she whispered,
"My arm hurts,"
"Why didn't you tell us?"
Amy shook her head. A few tears falling from her eyes. Melissa tutted softly. Holding Amys hand as she whispered,
"Come on. We'll get you something,"
Amy nodded. Shuffling forward before she got to her feet. Holding onto Melissas hand as she got to her own feet. Looking back at Jack as she asked,
"Are you coming?"
"Yeah. I'll get the board. Don't worry,"
"Okay,"
"The painkillers are in the cupboard in the bathroom,"
"Thanks,"

Melissa was with Amy in the bathroom when Jack headed into the living room. The lights turned off. Doors locked. He checked the outside. Watching a car pass by. Slowing down half way down the street before turning away. He closed the curtains. Staying by the window for another two minutes before he turned away. Heading back into the kitchen. Grabbing the phone as he heard the two upstairs head into Amys room. Dialling for CTU, he brought the phone to his ear. Heading back into the living room. Peering through the curtains. Getting there in time to see the same car come back down the street,
"CTU, Andreas Crank,"
"This is Jack Bauer. I need a surveillance team down at our house right now,"
"They're on their way. What's wrong sir?"
"I've got a feeling we're being watched,"
"Copy that. I'll have Alpha Team come down and set up a perimeter around the house,"
"Thanks,"
He hung up. Tossing the phone onto the couch. Keeping his gaze on the road outside. Watching the car head back down the street once again.

Amy was in bed when they heard Jack coming up the stairs. Melissa glanced back at the bedroom door. Smiling as she turned back to Amy. Asking her as Melissa sat down on the bed,
"Is daddy mad?"
"No. He's not mad. He's just tired,"

"Will you be there tomorrow to pick me up?"

"Are you taking me to school tomorrow?"

"What about daddy?"

Amy pouted. Making Melissa smile. Laughing softly before she whispered,
"How about I see if daddy can get out of work early. So both of us can pick you up,"
"Yeah!" Amy cheered, giggling. Playfully kicking her legs beneath the covers as Melissa got up from the bed. Kissing her cheek softly before she whispered,
"Night sweetheart,"
"Night mommy,"

Jack stepped up into the bedroom as Melissa walked across the top of the stairs. Going into the bathroom. Closing the door as Jack walked over to the bed. Leaning over as Amy giggled,
"Mommy says you'd come pick me up tomorrow,"
"I'll try,"
"Promise?"
"I promise."
She smiled and giggled again. Settling down as Jack kissed her forehead. Making sure she was alright before he turned to walk out of the bedroom. Calling to her,
"Night baby,"
"Night daddy,"
He smiled. Turning out the bedroom light as Melissa came out of the bathroom. Changed into her vest and shorts. She smiled. Walking with Jack into the bedroom. Getting settled under the covers as Jack went to get changed. Getting ready for bed as Melissa asked,
"Amy alright?"
"Yeah, she's fine."
"What about you?"
"Me?"
"Yeah. You seem a little tense,"
...
"You alright?"
"Yeah... Yeah I'm fine. Don't worry," he breathed, stepping out of the bathroom. She looked to her left. Watching as he climbed into bed. Bringing the covers up o
