Part 21

Wilson relaxed when the door opened. Finding Ryan coming inside. He gasped quietly at the state of Melissa on the floor. Closing the door behind him, he rushed over to the two. Kneeling down as Wilson breathed out,
“Thank God it’s you!”
“Andreas did this?”
“Yeah. I need you to help me take her over to the clinic,”
“Andreas is roaming the base. You’re not going to get in there without being spotted,” he warned, “Even if you have somebody as a diversion. You’re gonna get noticed,”
“Look, I’m a doctor. I have more command over him than what he thinks.”
Ryan nodded. Looking down at Melissa as she looked back at them. His eyes flickering down to her back. Seeing the slices but the bruises still there. Ryan shook his head, asking quietly,
“Bruise Beater Brett?”
“What?” Wilson asked before Melissa could whisper,
“Yeah… You still remember him too?”
“Who are you talking about?”
“Bruise Beater Brett. Use to be this guy that we went to school with. Every time he got a bruise, he’d get a bruise. He take a knife and cut it open,” Ryan explained,
“You can’t do that,” Wilson corrected, “It is impossible to do that,”
“Why?”
“Cause a bruise is dried blood that is under the skin. You cannot drain away a bruise. It goes on it’s own,”
“So… they just literally cut her open?”
Wilson sighed and nodded before whispering to him,
“I need to get her to the clinic to make sure these cuts will heal. That bitch is coming here today to see her at last. She can’t be in this mess still when she gets here,”
“I thought we had more than one visitor today?”
“What?”

Melissa held her breath as she stared straight forward. Swallowing hard. Gulping hard enough for the two of them to hear her. They looked down at Melissa as her own brown eyes flickered to look at Wilson. She sighed softly, turning back to Ryan. Whispering silently,
“Just help me get her to the clinic please, Ryan,”
“Sure. Better be quiet my lady,” Ryan warned to Melissa, “Gonna hurt,”
“Call me that again and I’ll hit you,” Melissa panted. Closing her eyes as she felt their hands on her arms. Lifting her gently before they walked out of the room.

Situation Room, CTU - Los Angeles

“I have a team ready to go as we speak,” Jack objected, “Rick was holding something back. We need to bring him in, now!”
“Look Jack-”
“Don’t try to get out of this Bill. You’ve seen the results. You can damn well see that he was holding back. We need to go out there and bring him in,”
“How do you suggest we go? He probably suspects that we know about this and he’s probably gonna try and stop us from getting this information,”
“Let me take a team of four to the house. We can sneak in and grab him before anybody can know what happened,”
“You're certain you can do this?”
“Yes,”
“… Alright fine. Make sure you and your team are connected to CTU throughout the entire operation.”
“Thank you,”
Bill nodded. Looking up at Jack still as he turned and walked out of the room. Reaching into his pocket for his cell phone. He brought up the number for the field teams. Bringing the phone to his ear as he spotted Tony just walking into the building. Seeing Jack disappearing into a corridor, he turned and made his way down the corridor that was closest to him. Running towards Jack as the blonde turned his back on him. Lowering the phone. He cancelled the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket. Glancing back over his shoulder at the sudden tap he received. Jack turned back, asking quickly,
“What?”
“Where are you going?”
“Going to pick up Rick Truman again,”
“Why?”
“Chloe was going over the results from the interrogation yesterday. There was an abnormality within the results that told us that he was holding something back,”
“You think it was about Mel?”
“Maybe.. I hope so,”
“You want me to come down with you?”
“No,” Jack answered, stopping by the door to the armoury. Turning to face Tony as he continued, “It’s just gonna be me and one of the back up teams. Nobody else,”
Tony nodded. Understanding completely before he offered,
“Want me to stay on the floor and monitor the house?”
“Yeah. Thanks,”
Tony smiled and nodded. Turning and walking away as Jack walked into the armoury. Meeting up with the team he had organize.

With Ryan standing guard by the door, he switched between watching the two inside and keeping an eye on the corridor outside. Looking back at the two as Melissa started to sit up. Slowing her pace when she felt Wilson putting her hand on the small of her back. Making sure she stayed away from the tender area that was now covered by a white patch. Protecting her, she hoped, from anymore of Andreas’ attacks. Ryan headed inside as the door closed behind him. Coming to help Wilson help Melissa get to her feet,
“If you two are against Andreas..” Melissa started, taking her hands free from theirs. Looking between them as she asked, “Why keep me here?”
Wilson sighed heavily. The two women looking over at Ryan as he warned her,
“You need to stay quiet about this, my lady,”
“Why are you still calling me that!?”
“I… I can’t explain.”
“You can’t or won’t?”
“Won’t.”
Melissa closed her eyes. Shaking her head. Her head slowed its motion as she opened her eyes. Looking over at Wilson as they watched her head over to the small chest of drawers. Taking out clean clothes for Melissa to change into,
“You are going to need these for when she gets here,”
“Who?”
“That’s something else you are gonna have to wait to be explained.”
“Or showed,” Ryan muttered. Melissa looked back at him. About to ask what he meant when the door leading to the clinic was opened. The three turned their gazes to fn Andreas stepping into the room. Jason, James and Dave right behind him. Wilson stepped in front of Melissa as Ryan stepped aside. Hoping to avoid Andreas as the taller man walked forward. His rage clearly evident on his face as he snarled,
“That girl is mine,”
“She is my patient,”
“No she’s not. She’s our hostage.”
“You have brought things out of control. You had better stay away otherwise I will call the Lord and Lady and request for you to be taken away,”
Andrea smirked. Putting his hands on his hips as he whispered,
“Doctors orders?”
“Yes! Now leave the room,”
Andreas turned his head to the right. Studying Ryan as he hung his head. Ignoring Andreas’ query,
“You protecting her too?”
“I’m not protecting her. I’m making sure she lives long enough,” Ryan replied, raising his head. Locking gazes with Andreas,
“She’s a grown woman. Let her protect herself. She can’t protect her family,”
“What?” Melissa asked. Andreas turned back to her. Smirking as he chuckled,
“Oh dear,”
“What have you done?”
“Come on boys. Lets go make sure our Queen is welcomed here with style,” Andreas breathed out softly as he and his crew walked away.

Melissa stepped round Wilson. Ignoring her pleas to not move. Dismissing Ryans moves as she demanded,
“What have you done!?”
Andreas turned round. Retrieving his gun from the front of his jeans. Spinning round
on his heels as he cocked it and trained it on her forehead,
“You don’t demand things from me, my lady.”
“What have you done?”
“Nothing as of yet… but it will come,”
“Touch my family and I will kill you,”
“Well, good luck with that. I’ve already touched one member of your family,”
Melissa swallowed hard as Andreas took a step forward. Keeping the gun aimed for her forehead as he taunted further, “I’ve done more than touch her,”
“Her!?”
“Yeah. She’s pretty good at what she does,”
“You don’t lay a hand on her!”
“Can’t be done,” Andreas hissed, taking his right hand from the gun. Showing her the ring on his finger, “See this? Husband gets to do more than touch his wife. Shouldn’t you know that?”
Melissa calmed a little. Knowing he wouldn’t be talking about Amy now. But her mind still fought with itself. Trying to figure out what the hell he was even talking about. Andreas smirked. His hand returning to the gun as he replaced the safety on the handgun. Slipping it back into his pants before the group left the room. Leaving the trio alone. Leaving Melissa to handle the thoughts and fears that raced through her mind at that moment. Giving Wilson a few more minutes to finish up with the treatment. Giving her a moment to get changed before she was taken back to her previous cell.

Truman Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Jack lowered the night vision scope from his right eye. With Lee Castle sat in the drivers seat. He readied his assault rifle. Asking quietly,
“When do we move in?”
Jack tossed the scope onto the dashboard. Reaching for his handgun. Checking the chamber as he instructed the team,
“I’ll take one of the guys and go round the back. Any luck, he’ll still be in his bed. You take the other two and go to the front of the house. Check the windows and then break in through the front door. If he’s awake, your break in will distract him long enough for us to grab him.”
“Copy that,”
Jack nodded. Testing the radio in his ear,
“Tony do you hear me?”
”Yeah I hear you Jack,”
“Anything with the satellite?”
”Not yet. We’re looking at the infra red now. There’s one heat source inside the house.”
“What level?”
”Ground floor. Back.”
“Copy that,” Jack paused. Taking a quick look at the house before he finished, “Lets go!”

The group climbed out of the car. Checking the streets. Finding lights on in the occasional house window. Looking back towards their target, Jack signalled for Castle and his two men to go straight ahead. Looking back at the agent that was left to follow his path. He threw his head to the right slightly. Getting a quick nod from the agent before Jack turned and started to jog. The agent behind him picking up the same pace. Following him round to the back of the house.

Jack came to a stop at the end of the wall. Peering round the side. Finding the pool in the middle of the garden. A small beach house at the far end of the garden. Hiding away a set of concrete steps that led down to the beach. Jack turned and looked back at the agent. Turning round again. Jack took another quick check on the area before reporting silently,
“We’re clear,”
He stepped out from hiding. Coming round the side of the wall. Heading towards the sliding back doors. Jack peered inside. Spotting a shadow on the wall by the pantry. He held up his left hand to the agent behind him. Forcing him down to his knees. Jack crouched down in front of the door. Trying the door handle. His heart leapt, filled with some fear as he slid the door to the right. The gentle sea breeze that was coming in, made the curtains sway. Giving Jack some space to move through. Stepping inside. His eyes scanned the left side of the room,
“Clear,”
He turned to the right. Spotting the swaying shadow again. Taking steady steps forward. Trying to figure out the motion Rick was making. Even if it was him. Jack raised the gun he held tightly in his gloved hands. Leaning over to his left as he continued to walk towards the spare room. Recognizing the room as a small office. But when he looked down the wall where the shadow swung. Jack realized what had happened. Hissing viciously,
“Dammit!”

Jack raced forward. Turning on the room light. Looking to his right. He looked on in horror. Finding Rick hanging from the fan on the ceiling. A series of three ties fastened tightly on each other. The third tie wrapped, constrictively around his neck. The other end hanging onto a second tie. The second tie hanging onto the third tie that was knotted round the metal pole that held the fan from the ceiling. Jack shook his head. Lowering the gun. His pants laboured and clear through the radio. Knowing how heavy they were when Tonys voice crackled through the radio,
”Jack!”

”Jack! Are you okay?!”
“Agent Bauer?”

Jack blinked. Coming back to reality before he whispered,
“Rick’s been killed.”
”What!”
“He’s been hung.”

Jack shook his head. Sealing his lips. Swallowing hard as he stepped forward. Looking up at the only person that knew more information than anyone else. He squinted his eyes at the marks on his shirt. Stepping closer to him. His mind processed quickly now. Someone knew he knew what they were wanting to do. Someone knew CTU had spoken to him. Jack grabbed the radios microphone. Speaking in quickly as he came round to the back of Rick. Spotting the second gunshot,
“Tony!”
”What is it Jack?”
“Someone killed Rick.”
”How do you know that Jack?”
“Rick has a gunshot in his stomach and the back of his head. Whoever did this hung him to make it look like he killed himself.”
”Forensics are on their way over there,” Bill informed him. Jack nodded. Turning back to find the rest of the team with him now. Castles eyes staring up at the body. The group now having to wait for forensics to arrive. Hoping they could find something that would give them a clue as to who killed Rick.

Truman Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Forensics had arrived thirty minutes after Jack had reported in with their findings. Standing out on the top step of the small stone slabs that created the staircase down to the beach. Jack folded his arms as he looked out over the beach. Golden sands and glistening blue waters were the perfect distraction from what was happening behind him. Crashing waves and seabirds above him were more calming than the crackling of radios and the thuds of boots hitting the wooden floorboards behind him. He sighed heavily. Hearing Castles cry,
"Agent Bauer!"
Turning his head to the left. Jack glanced back over his shoulder. Spotting the younger agent making his way over to him. He centred his head. Facing the ocean again as he asked,
"What?"
"We've found something sir,"
His arms slipped free of the knot he held them. Turning round as he asked,
"What is it?"
"We're not sure what it is. But one of the forensics just found it now on Trumans body,"
Jack nodded. Jogging up the path and back into the house with Castle. Finding forensics teams littered in every room and on the staircase. Castle gave his right arm with a quick jab. Nodding towards the room where they found the body. Jack took the lead. Stepping round Castle and entered the room.

Trumans body was still hanging from the ceiling. One forensics agent working on cutting him down as the other stood by the legs. Leaning close to the glistening spot of an unknown substance on his leg. Jack spotted it. Spotted it the moment he walked into the room. Leaving Castle to stand in the doorway, he approached the agent quickly. Asking quietly,
"Any idea what it is?"
"Not yet sir."
"It looks like saliva,"
"It could be. I'd rather wait till we receive the results from the test at CTU to make a confident analysis."
"Sure,"
The agent nodded. Turning back to take a sample of the fluid. Nodding again as Jack ordered,
"Having it ready to be taken back to CTU. I'll be heading over there soon,"
"Yes sir,"
"Jack." Castle called again. Stepping into the room and approaching the open doors behind them as Jack spun round. Following Castle into the next room.

They found a second pair of forensics agents crouched down on the floor. One taking a sample of the spots of blood they'd found. The other shining a ultraviolet light on a footprint. Feeling his heart in his chest. Knowing they'd found something to help them identify the killers. Castle stood back as Jack came round to take a closer at the evidence. Five spots of blood. Positioned as though the blood had been spilt whilst the person was moving. The foot print perfectly positioned between the spots,
"How long will it take for you to get an ID?" Jack questioned,
"An hour once we've got it back to CTU."
"I'll be heading back to CTU in an hour. Take it over to the other bag and I'll take it with me,"
"Yes sir,"
Jack nodded. Walking away as he reached into his pocket for his cell phone. Leaving Castle to overlook the forensics teams as Jack stepped back outside. Bringing up the number for CTU. Pressing down on 'call' as another team entered the house. He made his way back down to the steps. Taking a seat on the very top. Staring at the sea again as a voice came over on the other,
"CTU O'Brien,"
"Patch me through to Buchanan, Morris,"
"Sure mate, hold on,"
"Thanks,"
"... Buchanan,"
"It's me. We've found something,"
"What?"
"We've found something on Ricks leg. Looks like saliva. Along with a footprint and some blood,"
"Are you heading back to CTU now?"
"No not yet. I'm gonna wait a little longer. Just to see if the teams find anything else before I come back,"
"Alright,"
"Have you got anything new?"
"No. Nothing yet. I have Chloe and Morris still scanning the satellite images. Haven't found anything yet,"
"... Copy that... I'll be back at CTU soon,"
"Copy that,"

Jack lowered the phone. Hanging up on the call from his end before he went into the phonebook. Bringing up another number before activating the connection. He brought the phone back to his ear. Sighing heavily as he noticed a family a three off in the distance. A mother and father with a baby boy. He smiled. Looking down at the concrete step he sat. Raising his head when he heard a voice on the other,
"Hey,"
"Hey Celine, it's Jack,"
"Hi! How's it goin?"
"It's... getting there,"
"You haven't found Mel yet,"
"... No. I haven't."
"You'll find her. Don't worry,"
"Yeah. I know I will,"
"That's the spirit. So what's up?"
"Could you do me a favour?"
"Sure!"
"Could you pick up Amy from school and keep her at your place til I'm finished here?"
"Yeah of course. She can stay overnight if you want her to?"
"No, it's alright. Thanks though. I'll be there to pick her up. Just not sure what time,"
"Take as long as you need. Me and Gray both have days off tomrrow so we'll be staying up,"
"Thanks Celine,"
"Anytime Jack. Good luck,"
"Thanks,"

The morning had steadily gotten better, even though she was locked up in her cell like some animal again. Melissa stared at the door as she leaned back against the wall. Releasing a heavy sigh as her eyes closed. The painkillers Wilson had given her were still in effect. Giving her the relief she need. And some numbness in the small of her back and her knee. Making it difficult for her to stand. That was the only problem she had with it. If Andreas showed his head again. She wasn't going to be able to get away from him fast enough. As though her thoughts had been read aloud, the door ahead of her began to tremble. She shuffled away as quickly as she could. Hoping to get to the bed before the intruder could enter. She got a hold of the sheets as the door opened. Their eyes meeting. Wilson sighed with relief. Closing the door behind her with her left hand. Her right holding a black plastic tray,
"Thought you could do with something to eat," Wilson told her softly. Turning round to face Melissa. She shook her head. Climbing onto the bed as she replied to the doctor,
"I need something to get rid of this numbness."
"You're still numb?" Wilson asked as she stood by her. Taking a seat on the bed. Setting the tray between them,
"It's worse in my lower back. The knee isn't so bad,"
Wilson smiled and nodded,
"It'll go soon. Possibly another hour. But it shouldn't be too long,"
Melissa nodded. Watching as Wilson went on to check the bandage around her knee. Relaxing after a moment as Melissa asked,
"Where's Ryan?"
"Ryan's out of base. On some order that Andreas gave him,"
"... Where's Andreas?"
"Somewhere in the base. Waiting for his wife to arrive,"
"Great. More shit to deal with," Melissa sighed, hanging her head,
"You might not be saying that when you see her," Wilson cautioned. Melissa raised her head. Looking back at the doctor as she asked,
"Who is she?"
"You know her... maybe not well. But you know her,"
"That's not exactly helpful. I know a lot of people. Mostly men but I know a lot of women too,"
"Well... you're just gonna have to figure it out yourself," Wilson replied, getting to her feet. Heading towards the door,
"Hey wait!"
Wilson stopped. Turning round. Folding her arms as Melissa asked,
"Any chance she's as bad as he is?"
"I'll put it this way... they were meant for each other. Both physically and... mentally,"
"They're both idiots? That helps too. I've known plenty of those types as well,"
Wilson smiled. Shaking her head as she began to back away towards the door,
"Just becareful," she whispered softly, "Last thing I want to do is attach limbs back to bodies,"
Melissa opened her eyes further. Shocked at what she'd just heard. About to object once again but Wilson got out of the room before anything could escape her lips. Leaving her alone to eat and rest before more trouble would arrive.

It didn't take long for trouble to arrive. The first wave of attack. The tray had been left at the end of the bed. A few pieces still left. The bottle of water empty. Melissa cuddled her knee to her chest. Resting her chin on her kneecap as she stared down at the floor. Trying to figure out who this new threat was that was arriving today. Only a small part of her trying to figure a way out of there. Her thoughts were disturbed once more. Hearing the door rumbling. She shot awake. Looking towards the door as she straightened her knee. Sitting up as it opened. Finding Dave rushing inside with Jason. His nose still bleeding. She barely got a chance to get a word out when they grabbed her arms. Dragging her off the bed. Forcing her to bend her knees as they sat down on the floor. Looking up at the doorway to see Andreas walk inside. Tapping gently at the PDA he had in his hand. Tapping it twice before he looked down at Melsisa. Smirking as he teased,
"How are we feeling now? Better?"
...
"Here's something to really set you off,"
"Oh please,"
"It's about Jack,"
"... What?"
Andreas smirked. Coming closer to her. Getting an immediate reaction from Melissa. Trying to back away but the guys held her firmly. Keeping down. Feeling something hit her arm. She looked to her left. Seeing the few spots of blood. She looked up. Seeing Jasons nose bleeding,
"You might want to get that checked out,"
"Thanks to you,"
"Deserved it,"
"Yeah right,"
Melissa cringed as she felt another droplet hit her nose. Hissing quietly before she hissed,
"I'd rather not have your bloody mark on me thanks,"
Jason smirked at her. Tightening his hold on her arm. Melissa clenched her teeth as she felt that familiar burn appearing on her skin. Grateful, for the first time, that Andreas called him off,
"Jason, back off,"
Jason huffed. Easing his hold on her arm. The two turning back to Andreas started his show.

Tapping again at the PDA screen. Bringing back from stand by. He showed it to Melissa. Starting softly,
"You know what these are?"
...
"They're up to the minute satellite images. Courtsey of CTU."
...
"Malibu beach... Jack's there... Want to know what's he doing there?"
...
"He's searching a house Ryan has been to. Killed the man who was the only suspect they had that could have helped them."
"Bastard!"
Andreas smirked,
"Want to know what will happen next?"
"He'll find out it's you somehow,"
"Yeah... maybe in the next lifetime. But I should be dead by then... pretty much like he will be any minute,"
Her heart jumped. Panting as she breathed out heavily,
"... Ryan's going to kill him?"
"Clever girl!" Andreas chuckled as he got to his feet, "Ryan is in his position right now."
"Call him off!"
"Can't be done,"
"Tell him to back off! Please!"
"Nope. Sorry."
"Please!"
...
"Andreas!"

Andreas turned his back on her. Stepping away as Melissa fought to break free. Hissing and spitting for the men to let her go before she faced Andreas again,
"Call Ryan off!"
"No,"
"Andreas!"
"My lady, you might have authority but not in this country,"
"What?!"
Andreas glanced over his shoulder. Smirking as he turned back round. Walking back over to Melissa. Crouching down in front of her again. Showing her the screen,
"There's your husband. Standing right now. Actually breathing. He won't be in two minutes,"
"No! Tell him to back off!"
Andreas shook his head. Watching her eyes as they focused on the screen. Watching as Jack remained stood at the top of the set of steps. Looking out over the ocean from what she could see.

Truman Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Castle stepped back out into the open air. Approaching Jack when he noticed the outsider. Slowing his pace. Noticing the crouched figure. The rifle in his hands. Trained on its target. He jumped into a sprint. Racing towards Jack. Barely getting a chance to turn round. Jack caught a brief glimpse of Castle after hearing the agents yell,
"Jack look out!"
Feeling the agents hands press against his chest. Forcing him out of the way of the bullet as it was fired. Tearing through Castles head from the left side. As Jack tumbled down the few concrete slabs. Forensics agents took cover as the back up team moved into investigate the outburst. Jack grunted as he felt himself come to a stop. Hitting the last step. He raised his head. Hoping to see some sort of sign of the sniper. A black figure was seen making a quick exit just a few houses down. Jumping off the balcony and disappearing from view. He turned his head to the left. Looking up at the top of the steps. Finding medics racing down to help him as the other pair stayed on top with Castle,
"Agent Bauer, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Where's Lee?" Jack breathed out painfully as he forced himself to his knees. Taking aid with the help of the medics as he climbed to his feet. Looking up to the top of the steps as the medic shook his head. Informing them quickly,
"He's dead. No way he could have survive that,"

Andreas growled. Pulling back the PDA as he got to his feet again. Looking over the top of the small device as Melissa started to pant heavily. Closing her eyes as she leaned over. Her head hanging as she whispered repeatedly,
"Thank God... Thank God,"
"Where's the hell's Ryan!?" Andreas yelled. The two others shook their heads. Jason replying back,
"He should still be in Malibu sir,"
"Go get him and bring him to me,"
"Yes sir,"
Her left arm fell as Jason released it without hesitation. Racing out of the room as Dave freed her from his hold. Andreas gave him a quick nod. Getting the same nod back in response. Leaving the door open. Andreas stared down at Melissa as she shook her head. Hearing the small whimper as she fought back her tears,
"Don't think this is over," Andreas warned. Waiting til Melissa raised her head. Locking gazes with him. But something else grabbed her attention. A voice that echoed down the corridor outside,
"Where is he?"
Her eyes widened in disbelief. Swallowing hard before she breathed out softly,
"That's not possible,"
Andreas smiled. Nodding as he replied,
"It is,"
Melissa shook her head. Looking back at Andreas for a moment as he added,
"Goddesses do exist. I married one of them,"
She brought her gaze back to the door as Suzanne suddenly walked inside. Smiling as she greeted coldly,
"Big sis! Since I no longer have two older sisters. Thanks to you,"
"No... You died almost eight years ago," Melissa shot back, "You got a bullet in the head. I know you did,"
"Really?"
"It came from the gun I used,"
"Yeah... that's kinda a long story. But I don't really want to go into it... Andreas, you coming?"
"Yes, my lady,"
"Just put her to sleep first," Suzanne ordered, "I don't care how you do it... kick the crap out of her for all I care,"
Taking a quick look back at Melissa as she turned away. Heading out of the room. Keeping her pace steady. Her eyes on the road ahead of her. Hearing the buzzing of the tazer. The gasp as it collided with flesh. Heavy boots following her once the door to the cell had been locked. Smiling at the smallest piece of satisfaction she got from that brief meeting. They still had a few days left yet to catch up.

Suzanne was back with Melissa when she started to stir. Her eyes squeezed shut for a second. Grunting when she felt her body aching and trembling still. Hearing a voice in the background objecting to their plans,
"You're going to kill her before they can even see her!"
"We'll bring her back,"
"In what? Two pieces or one?"
"That a trick question?" Suzanne asked, stepping closer to Melissa. Watching as she steadily woke up. Thinking she could use a bit of a kick to help her. She brought back her right foot. Throwing forward with more speed than either had imagined. Slamming into Melissas stomach. Receiving a sharp cry in response. Barely able to curl up as Suzanne stepped back. Keeping a firm hold of the handgun in her right hand. Spitting on her sisters shoulder before she hissed,
"Proud! Are you?"
"Get... lost!"
"Family have the rights to see each other. Even more so when they're ill,"
"I'd rather you... didn't,"
She hissed again. Grunting at another shot of pain. Wilson moved forward to check on her. Stopping as Suzanne grabbed her arm. Forcing her back as she warned,
"Interrupt again. And I'll do more than get you off this base,"
Wilson clenched her teeth behind sealed lips. Looking back down at Melissa as she opened her eyes. Looking up at Suzanne as the brunette stepped forward. Squinting slightly as she looked at her hair,
"Why don't you just kill yourself, if you want to get anything about us erased from your history?"
"What are you talking about now?" Melissa asked breathlessly,
"Your hair,"
"This was an accident,"
"Oh I know you were,"
"Nice try. But that won't work,"
"Oh yes. I forgot, that Paul guy taught you didn't he. Nothing can hurt you," Suzanne remarked sarcastically, "Well... I know something that will. Every wife doesn't like seeing her husband hurt and upset... especially you,"
"Go anywhere near Jack and I'll kill you again,"
"You didn't kill me,"

Suzanne stayed silent. Their eyes continually locked until it clicked. Knowing it had clicked when Melissa's breath became shortened. Her eyes flickering to stare down at the ground as she whispered,
"You used a body double,"
"See! Not as stupid as you think!"
"If you used a body double then you knew there was someone other than CTU hunting you,"
"There was..." Suzanne started, looking up at the ceiling as she turned away. Wondering if she should start telling the story now or later. Lowering her head when she heard Wilson's boot scrape across the floor. Raising the gun to train on the doctors forehead. She warned silently, "Only takes a second to ready this gun and pull the trigger... don't try me,"
"Why don't you leave her alone?" Melissa asked, turning to look back at Suzanne. Watching her as she turned back round. Raising an eyebrow as she asked,
"Why? Do you care about her?"
"She's the only one here that seems sane right now,"
"I'm not the one going against my own country,"
"Going against my own country? Are you kididng me with this bullshit!?"
Suzanne shrugged her shoulders. Lowering the gun. Slipping it back into its holster. She spun round. Leaving Melissa alone in the cell. Giving no order to Wilson. She immediately darted forward. Crouching down as Melissa rolled over onto her back. Hissing as she laid her right arm against her stomach,
"I'm gonna kill her... for real this time," Melissa cursed,
"You won't get near her. And don't even try it," Wilson cautioned, "Andreas is overprotective of her. You'll barely get to breathe on her,"
"Can't I see my own sister?"
"Don't try it. Unless you have a death wish,"

En route to CTU - Los Angeles

Jack had gathered the evidence as quickly as he could. After the back up team had been given direct orders from the President to grab Jack and bring back to safety behind the doors of CTU. Jack objected to the idea. But after hearing a side of the argument from Palmer. He couldn't think of anything that would win over it. Closing his eyes as his phone glided over his cheek. Hanging his head as he felt shame filling him inside as he heard Palmer's voice on the other end,
"Amy is nine years old Jack. She's already has lost her mother until we locate her. Don't give her the burden of losing her father too."
"... I'm sorry sir,"
"It's alright Jack... How are you doing with locating her?"
"We've got some evidence from the house. I'm heading back to CTU now to test it. Hopefully get some link."
"Keep me informed,"
"I will sir,"
"Good luck Jack,"
"Thank you sir,"

The cell phone was flipped shut as the agent sat in the passenger seat retrieved his. Opening the phone and answering the common response,
"Agent Campbell... Yes sir he's right here..."
Campbell paused. Lowering the phone as he turned back to Jack,
"Agent Bauer. Bill Buchanan,"
Jack nodded. Thanking him as he took the phone. Bringing it to his ear,
"Bauer,"
"Jack, I heard what happened, are you alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine."
"I've just been informed about the Presidents orders. I think it's a good idea,"
"I don't think it is. As much as I want my daughter protected right now. I don't want to scare her. If she sees the team outside the house, she's going to know her mother isn't away on that vacation I've been telling her,"
"I understand Jack. But it's better if she was scared about this. And not end up dead like you almost did,"
"... This isn't about protecting Amy is it?.. This is about protecting me,"
"Jack, listen to me,"
"I can protect my own damn arse Bill! I can protect Amy too!"
"Not from what happened with Teri," Chase suddenly added,
"Chase!?"
"Chase, leave the room"
"You need to force Jack to stand down as head of Field Ops,"
"I'm in charge of this office. I decide on what happens. The only way Jack will be forced down is if I get forced to stand down first."
...
"It won't happen... Now leave this room"

Jack gritted his teeth. Closing his eyes as he fought to keep control. Hearing a door open and shut on the other end. Opening his eyes when he heard Bill's voice echo again,
"I'm sorry about Chase, jack,"
"No Bill... He's right... If I couldn't protect my family back then, what's the chance of me protecting Melissa and Amy?"
"Times have changed Jack. You've changed!"
"No... I haven't... I'm the same man that couldn't protect his family back then. And still can't now... I've already lost my wife."
"We have evidence that can help us find her,"
"I don't think it will... I need to go pick my daughter up from her friends house. As soon as I get to CTU. I'm leaving and going home,"
"Alright... I'll call you with the results from the tests as soon as we have them"
"Thanks Bill,"
"Just take it easy, Jack. I can't imagine how difficult it is for you right now. But you need to relax,"
"... Yeah,"

Wilson stayed with Melissa for the next few hours, until she was dragged out by Dave and Jason. Leaving Melissa to fend for herself when Andreas and Suzanne stepped back into her cell,
"You come here to tell me more lies?" Melsisa asked, folding her arms as she leaned back agaisnt the wall, "Just like what you did when we were younger?"
"I forgot you were the perfect angel,"
"Kind of like you then, huh,"
"See you haven't lost that smart mouth of yours either,"
"It comes and goes. Depends on what shit I'm talking to,"
"You talk to yourself often?"
"Clever,"
Andreas smirked. Shaking his head as he chuckled. His eyes watching Suzanne as she walked closer to Melissa. Noticing how she never shifted. Or cringed. The heavy thuds of her boots echoing round the small room. The screeching of her heels as she dragged her foot along the concrete,
"Wanna hear a bedtime story?"
Melissa looked over at Andreas. Spotting the tazer fastened securely to his belt. She brought gaze back to rest on Suzanne. Following her as she took a seat on the bed. Crossing her right leg over her left. She smiled, shrugging her shoulders as she whispered,
"Well, I'd better tell you what happened,"
...
"Two years before you killed Rebecca and my double. I was in Amsterdam. Attending an art opening on behlaf of the company. Since we had donated a large amount of money to have the museum built and to bring in the pieces of artwork... I was stalked by an American who had come over from the states to see the art exhibtion. She got too friendly and I told him to back off... Didn't think it would lead to him and his gang trying to hunt me down and have me killed for denying the wishes of a lead gangster."
"Right," Melissa breathed out. Her head fell back against the wall. Her eyes following to look up at the ceiling as Suzanne continued,
"Hard to believe I know... After I received about fifty death threats. And over a hundred phone calls from the gang, I decided to put the money to good use. And got myself a bodyguard... Andreas. He took care of me. Killed most of the people in the gang. Thanks to some tracking software they use in CTU. And then helped to get rid of the rest. Of course that sparked more threats. But, ever since we've been together, we've lived."
"... Good for you,"
"We got married in Japan where nobody knew who I was-"
"Lucky them,"
"... When I heard about Rebecca wanting me to meet her. After she'd figured a way to draw you out into open, after you hid yourself away from the family. I agreed until I realized where the meeting place was. The place where the group that were so keen on wanted me dead, were located in Los Angeles. So Andreas gave me a second option... Send in a double. We informed Rebecca of the changes and the problems I was having. She understood. Unlike someone like you. And she promsed that no one but you would be killed...But after I'd heard you'd killed my double and my only older sister. I told Andreas what happened. And he told me about what you were planning on doing. Helping CTU with their problems instead of going back home to help the people you belong to,"
"The people I belong to?" Melissa asked, looking back at her, "Who the hell do I belong to?!"
"You belong to mum and dad,"
"... Wait... So, this is what it's all about? Mum and dad want to see me but just couldn't be bothered to pick up a phone?"
"This is important."
"Yeah right. So's my arse but you don't hear me go on about it,"

Suzanne smirked. Lifting her leg. Setting both feet down on the floor as she pushed up from the bed. Staring down at Melissa as she turned away. Avoiding both of their gazes. She looked down at the floor. Muttering loud enough for them both to hear,
"You know... if the gang that want you killed are here in Los Angeles... why are you actually here?"
"How could I pass up a chance to actually get you?"
"So, it's you that's want me then... not that bastard there. Or anyone else on this base. You just wanted to bring me here. Have some fun with me before you blow a hole in my head, like I did your double,"
"... After a visit with someone else,"
Melissa brought her head back to look at Suzanne,
"Who else wants to see me besides you and mum and dad?"
"Nobody,"
"Right... So... When do the happy parents get here?"
"Still making plans... Either they come here. Or... We throw CTU completely off our scent, and take you back home,"
"... There's no way you'll get me back in England. CTU will be tracking all airports and exits. They'll find me,"
"There is a way to avoid detection. And I have a way to get you to come with us if it comes to that option... It's coming today too."
...
"When it arrives. You'll change your mind. I know you will,"

Melissa stayed silent. Watching as Suzanne turned and left the room. Taking Andreas with her. Closing and locking the door behind them. Suzanne reached into her pocket for her cell phone. Activating speed dial and pressing down on nine before she brought to her ear,
"... It's me. How are you doing?... Good. We're still on site one. How long before you get here?... Excellent. Call me when you get through the gates... I'll be waiting,"
"Successful?" Andreas questioned as Suzanne hung up on the phone,
"It went perfectly. Shame we have no video. Would love to see the look on his face when he arrives there,"

Malibu - Los Angeles

Jack tossed the phone onto the passenger seat after getting another failed connection to Celine's house phone. It was now gone four o'clock. Amy would have been out of school for just over an hour. She should be at the house with Daphne and her parents. There was no calls being received at the house phone or any of the cell phones. He shook his head. Wondering if they were playing music in the house. Knowing how much Amy loved to have her music loud. She was definately going to be a lot like her mother from what he could tell. Either that, or they were outside in the garden. He shook his head. Bringing the car round a corner. Seeing pure black smoke billowing out from a space just down the road. Jack held his breath as he drove down the street. Seeing no sign of the fire service. Hearing no sign of them. Only groups of people screaming and racing away on the sidewalks. Jack brought the car to a screeching halt. Not wanting to believe what he was seeing as he ejected the seatbelt. Finding Celines house set a blaze. Burning viciously. He climbed out of the car frantically. Slamming the door shut as he raced towards the burning house. Ignoring the shouts and yells from the people behind him. Telling him to get away from it. The house was on the verge of collapsing. Hearing it creaking as it was burned. As though he'd lost his voice. Jack stared up at the house. The smoke that flew into his house adding more tears to the ones that were already streaming down his face. Shaking his head as he felt his stomach churn. His knees buckling at thought of losing his daughter so soon. He felt hands grab his arms. But his legs didn't respond. His knees buckled totally. Collapsing as the men that had been yelling for him tried to drag him to safety. Hooking their arms around their necks. An arm of their own wrapping round Jack as they carried him to safety. Barely getting away in time as the house collapsed behind them.

Jack fell to the floor in sync with the structure. Looking back at the cloud of smoke and still burning rubble. Suddenly seeing something crawl out from beneath it. Jack gasped. Forcing himself to his feet. Ignoring the pain as he ripped off his shirt. Rushing over to the burning figure. An adult from the height. He covered his hands with the shirt as he crouched down by the figure. Slipping his hands under whatever was left of their shoulders. Pulling them out carefully but quickly from the rubble. Laying them down on the grass. Jack looked back up at the men that had helped him. Yelling to them,
"Get me something cold! Now!"
The guys nodded. Spinning round and racing away. Looking back down at the figure as it barely opened its eyes. Jack recognized them instantly,
"There's emergency services on their way Gray. Just take it easy."
Watching as Gray's lips tried to move. His voice low as Jack whispered,
"Don't try to talk. You'll make it worse,"
Gray hissed as he shook his head. The rough texture of Jack's jeans making him feel more pain than what he needed. Keeping his head still. He locked gazes with Jack. Painfully hissing,
"... Took,"
"Took?..." Jack paused as it clicked inside him. His heart healed slightly. But he still had fear rising greatly as he whispered, "... Somebody took Amy?"
Gray nodded. Closing his eyes as Jack looked back towards the road. Finding the guys coming back with one of the newly developed ice blankets that had been released. Smiling and thanking them for their help as Jack laid Gray down on the grass. Reaching for his phone in his pocket as he got to his feet. Stepping back. Coughing as the wind changed direction. Blowing the smoke in their direction. He covered his ear with his hand as the sirens sounded. Nearing their position as a connection was made,
"Buchanan,"
"Bill! It's Jack!" he yelled as the sirens grew in volume. Mixing in with the cries from Gray behind him. The fire still crackling. Windows smashing. Creating too much outside noise to hear Bill on the other end,
"Jack, where are you?"
"They've taken Amy!"
"Jack?"
"Bill, can you hear me!?"
"Jack are you still there?... Jack?"
"Bill!... They've taken Amy!"
"Jack!?"

Jack shook his head. Hanging up on the call as the fire service arrived. Moving in to douse the fire as a pair of firemen moved in to help Gray. Leaving Jack to fight with himself. His rage building along with his fear. Now they had both of them. He was on in his own.

Kiefer's Lady
Part 24

Unknown Location

Suzanne returned to the cell shortly before six o’clock that evening. Andreas and Jason following her. Standing back as she reached into her pocket for the keys. Fishing them out of her pocket as she asked,
“Where’s the little girl?”
“They’re bringing her in now, my lady. Should be here any minute now,” Jason responded,
“Good,” Suzanne muttered. Stopping suddenly. She turned round. Smiling as she folded her arms, “So… how did she react when she saw you?”
“Probably the same way she did when she saw you, my lady,”
“But not as shocked?”
“Yes, my lady,”
“Well, at least you still have your manners, unlike her,”
Jason smiled and nodded. Making sure to not take it too far. Not wanting the broken nose to bleed again. Suzanne turned back to the door. Working the lock once again.

Melissa heard the rattling from the other side. Turning her attention back to the door as she stood by the far wall. Folding her arms as the door opened. Watching Suzanne step inside first. Andreas behind her with Jason behind him. His nose still purple and swollen,
“You’re a little early for Christmas Jason,” she remarked, “How about in a few months time?”
“Hilarious aren’t you?” Jason asked back,
“People seem to think so,”
“Well at least you didn’t say everyone.”
“Well I’m not full of myself unlike someone” Melissa replied, looking back at Suzanne now, “You going to tell me that we’re going home now?”
“No, not yet. But we are going back to England. Give it a few days and we’ll be off,” Suzanne answered,
“Jack will find me before you can throw me on any plane,”
“You sure about that?”
“I’m positive. And even if I do get on that plane, Jack will find me,”
“Just you?”
Melissa stared at her. A second of silence passing by them before she heard screaming. Men shouting as the cries and squeals continued to come. Recognizing the cries. That recognizable squeal of fear. Melissa unfolded her arms. Stepping forward as she whispered quietly,
“Amy,”
Suzanne smirked. Turning back as the little girl raced past them. Spotting Melissa in the room. She ran for her but was grabbed by Jason. Pulling her back as Amy continued to sob out uncontrollably,
“Mommy!”
Melissa stepped forward again as she shouted,
“Take your hands off my daughter!”
“Don’t move!” Suzanne yelled louder than Melissa. Bringing out her gun. Training it on her forehead. Melissa frozen. Her eyes locking with Suzanne’s as she asked,
“Want her to lose her mother for good?”
“You’ve got to be more than cold hearted to do something like that,”
“Andreas is at that level. But I’m training him to the point where I am,”
“And where’s that exactly?”
“I’ll kill you in front of her. I’m not afraid of the consequences,”
“You’ll regret it when Jack finds you,”
“We’ll see won’t we?”

Melissa continued to remain silent. Staring at Suzanne as the most of the men left. Leaving just Suzanne and Jason in the room. The sisters eyes still frozen on each other. Seeing that strength in their eyes. Knowing neither one of them will back down. Suzanne nodded. Turning her back on Melissa. Walking out of the cell as she called to Jason,
“Let her go,”
“Yes, my lady,” Jason called back to her. Releasing Amy from his hold. Melissa crouched down as Amy ran towards her. Holding her close to her chest. Kissing her cheek before she watched Jason leave,
“Come near my daughter and I‘ll turn you into a bloody woman,” Melissa threatened, “Touch her again, and I’ll do more than kill you. You understand me?!”
Jason smirked. Walking out of the room. Closing and locking the cell door on his way out. Melissa closed her eyes. Resting her knees down on the floor. Holding Amy still as she continued to cry and tremble,
“Easy baby, easy. You’re going to be safe.” She whispered into Amy’s ear, “He’s not going to touch you again. I swear,”

Comm Team, CTU - Los Angeles

Jack ran over to Chloe as he burst through the doors. His cheeks still red from the tears he’d cried. Approaching her station with laboured pants,
“Bring up the satellite on this address,” he ordered, handing her a scrap of paper, “Take it back to about an hour. Maybe two,”
“What? Why?”
“Ask the questions later. Bring up the damn satellite!”
“Jack!” Bill shouted from the stairs to his office. Jack turned and look at him. Seeing Karen right behind him. His chest was still heaving behind his shirt. The sweat saturated the collar of his shirt. His clothes stained with the smoke from the fire. Bill shook his head. Curious and worried as he noticed the state of Jack,
“What happened?” Karen asked,
“The people that have taken Mel… they’ve taken Amy,”
“What!”
“How do you know that?” Bill questioned,
“I just went to go and pick her up from her friends house. The entire building was on fire…” Jack paused. Swallowing hard before he fought to get some hair, “Her friends father… I saw him coming out from under the rubble… he told me that someone had taken her…”
Bill turned to Chloe. Asking quickly,
“You have anything on the satellite?”
“I’ve just started the scan now, sir.” Chloe responded, her eyes fixed on the screen in front of her, “It’s going to take about fifteen minutes.”
“Call when you have something,”
“Are you going somewhere?”
“We’re going down to medical,”
“We?”
“I don’t need to go to medical,” Jack bounced back, “I’m fine,”
“No, you’re not. Go down to the clinic or I send you home,” Bill instructed. Jack sighed heavily. Shaking his head as Tony approached him from behind. Putting his hands on his hips as he asked,
“What happened to you?”
Jack glanced back over his shoulder. Shaking his head but answered quietly,
“Amy’s been taken,”
“They have both of them now?”
“… Yeah…”
“Go down to medical.” Bill ordered finally, “I’ll keep you informed if we find something.”
Jack nodded again. Coughing gently as Tony said softly,
“I’ll go down there with you.”
“Thank you Tony,” Karen replied, smiling at him. Tony nodded. Patting Jack’s shoulder before the two headed for the clinic. Barely speaking a word to each other as they disappeared from the floor.

Melissa closed her eyes as she laid her ear against the cell door. Now that they had Amy as well, she needed to get out of there as soon as they could. Even Andreas continued to do what he had done previously, she didn’t want Amy to see it. Or see the consequences of his actions. Amy was sat on the bed. Her tears still dribbling down her cheeks but not in the torrent s they had done before. Melissa sighed softly. Opening her eyes as Amy squeaked,
“Mommy?”
“What’s up baby?”
“Are you on vacation?”
Melissa smiled. Shaking her head as she thought to herself, she was going to need to know sooner or later. She pushed off from the door. Turning to Amy as she laid her back against it. Shaking her head as she whispered,
“No baby, I’m not,”
“Why did daddy lie?”
“Daddy didn’t lie, baby,” Melissa replied, walking back to her. Kneeling down in front of the bed,
“Daddy said you were on vacation,”
“Daddy did not lie to you, okay?”
Amy shook her head causing Melissa to sigh softly. Shaking her own head as she took a hold of Amy’s hand in hers. Leaning closer to her as she whispered,
“You need to listen to me, now… okay baby?”
Amy nodded. Whimpering occasionally as Melissa explained softly,
“These people are bad people. Okay. And they are going to do some very nasty things while we’re with them,”
“Can’t we go home?”
Melissa shook her head,
“No baby, we can’t. Not yet,”
“Why?”
“Because… Because they won’t let us,”
“Am I going to die?”
“No! No, you’re not going to die,”
“Are you going to die?”
“… No, baby. No. We’re going to live through this. Alright.”
Amy closed her eyes as she started to cry again. Melissa rose up a little but sat down on the bed. Lifting Amy up to sit her down on her legs. She hissed quietly at the pressure on her knee. Getting Amy’s attention immediately,
“Did I hurt mommy?”
“No, you didn’t hurt mummy.”
“What’s wrong with mommy’s leg?”
“It’s poorly, baby.”
“Did the nasty people hurt you?”
“… Yeah, they did baby,”
“Why?”

Melissa shook her head. Shuffling forward but kept Amy on her lap. Bending her knees. Hanging them over the bed. She kissed Amy’s cheek again. Hugging her softly as she whispered,
“Did they hurt you?”
Amy shook her head. Wiping her eye as Melissa whispered again,
“Good.”
She kissed her cheek again before she looked over at the door. Hearing Amy’s gasp when the door started to squeal. Melissa picked Amy up gently. Sitting her down on the bed. Ordering her with a tender tone of voice,
“Get up to the top of the bed,”
Amy crawled back towards the end of the bed. Turning round to sit down on the pillow at the top as the door opened. Melissa got to her feet. Standing in front of Amy as Suzanne walked back inside,
“What the hell do you want now?” Melissa asked,
“Come to talk,”
“To who exactly?”
Suzanne’s eyes flickered over to Amy before coming back to rest on Melissa,
“You’re going nowhere near her,” Melissa warned, “So, don’t even try anything,”
“She’s my niece. I can see her if I want to,”
“She’s my daughter. I’m the one who looks after her.”
“Doing a fine job there, aren’t you?”
“Don’t try me,”
Suzanne smirked and nodded. Taking a step forward. Noticing how Melissa stiffened her stance. Bracing herself for self defense or protect if she would try anything. Suzanne stopped. Sighing heavily, with a hint of disappointment in her voice as she replied,
“Fine… I’ll just tell you what the commands are from our parents,”
...
“I’ve made the calls about the plane. It will be ready in two days. We’ll be taking a chopper to JFK airport in New York, where the plane will be waiting.”
“You’ll have no way of getting us onboard,”
“I think we will,”
“No you won’t.”
“Keep reassuring yourself. Cause you’re gonna need your strength. The only leash I have on Andreas is on his sex life. So, don’t worry… you won’t be getting raped… again… anytime soon,”
Her heart slowed painfully in her chest as Melissa took in a shallow breath. Swallowing the fear that was rising inside of her. Suzanne turned to leave but stopped by the door. Turning back as she suddenly spoke out,
“Oh yeah… they don’t know about Amy. They have no clue whatsoever. And they don’t know who the father is.”
Melissa folded her arms as Suzanne warned her,
“You’d better be ready for when they ask about her. I don’t think they’ll be too happy to hear that the father of their granddaughter is the man who helped kill their first heir,”
“Heir?”
Suzanne smiled. Stepping out of the room. Closing the door behind her. Leaving the two alone for the time being. Leaving Melissa to fade away and become lost in her thoughts at the information she’d just been given. Things were still not making any sense…

Clinic, CTU - Los Angeles

Tony stood guarding the door to the clinic. Watching as Jack denied further testing. Jumping off the bed. Slipping on a clean shirt from the lockers as he objected to Bradson’s wishes,
“I’m fine. I need to find my family,”
“You need to be checked out Agent Bauer. You inhaled smoke!”
“I’ve lived with smokers. Think it’s nothing I can’t handle?”
“This is a different sort. You know that,”
“I don’t care. I need to find my wife and daughter,”
“Agent Bauer!” Bradson objected, louder this time as Jack headed towards the clinic door. Slowing his pace as Tony side stepped to his life. His arms remaining in their tight knot,
“Get out the way Tony,” Jack growled,
“You need to be checked out by the doc,” Tony negotiated gently, “Let him check you out. And I’ll stand aside,”
“There is no negotiations in this. Stand aside,”
“No,”
“Disobeying a direct order?”
“Isn’t that what you always do?”
“Don’t try me Tony,”
“I’m telling you the obvious,”
“Move away. Let me find Mel and Amy before I could find what’s left of them,”
“They’re not gonna kill em Jack!”
“How do you know!? For all we know, they both could be dead!”
“How can they be? Mel was kidnapped, not killed! If they wanted her dead, she would have been killed already. And you’d be looking for a dead body!”

Jack swallowed hard at the image in his mind. Looking round as he fought to control his body. Fighting back the natural response to launch back at Tony. Tony shook his head. His voice now tender and low as he suggested calmly,
“Why don’t you just get checked over by the doc, and then head home?”
“I have no one there. It’s no longer a home,”
“They’re gonna come back.”
“When? Tony.” Jack shot back, staring straight at him, “When?”
Tony stayed silent. Simply releasing a heavy sigh as he placed his left hand on his hip. His right hand gliding over his lips before coming to rest on his hip. Staring at Jack still as the blonde asked,
“Are they gonna come back safe and sound? Or are they gonna come back once they’ve screwed around with their heads?”
“You know they won’t do that, Jack,”
“Maybe not to Amy. But Mel is a perfectly good agent. They know she’ll take whatever they give her. Especially now Amy is with her. She’s going to want to be strong in front of her.”
“And she will,”
“We’ve no idea what they’ve already put her through! They could have done anything to her!”
“Agent Bauer, please. Calm down,” Bradson recommended from behind him. Standing a metre or so away. Jack glanced back over his shoulder. Turning his head forward. But stayed away from Tony’s gaze. Closing his eyes as Bradson began his own negotiations,
“Allow me to clear you for duty, and I won’t hold you back any longer than needed,”
...
“I promise,”
Tony tilted his head slightly. Lowering it even as he saw the flicker of Jack’s eyes. His chest heaving steadily as he shook his head. Turning round sluggishly as he muttered,
“Fine… Five minutes,”

Shortly after Suzanne’s brief visit, Amy had gotten settled on what little softness she could find on the bed. Curled up as she watched Melissa attack the door. Trying to somehow knock the nails out of the hinges. Her mind was confused as she watched her mother act the way she was. Staying still. She bent her knees a little more as she asked,
“What’s mommy doin?”
Melissa huffed. Clearing her throat as she wiped a few droplets of sweat away from her eyes,
“Mummy’s trying to get us out of here, baby,” she panted,
“Why?”
“Cause we can’t stay here.”
“What about daddy?”
“… Daddy’s looking for us… He’ll find us,”
“Is daddy coming today?”
“I hope so… I really do hope so,”
“What about Daphne?”
Melissa turned round, forcing herself to take a break from their escape plan. Walking over to Amy. She sat down on the edge of the bed. Asking quietly, with laboured breaths,
“What about Daphne?”
“Some men came for her,”
“… What happened?”
“These men came and picked me up… Then they fire house,”
“Fire house?… They set fire to Celine’s house?”
Amy nodded. Watching as the shocked expression on Melissa’s face turned for the worse. Swallowing hard before she whispered,
“Oh my God,”
She turned away. Pushing up and off from the bed with the help of her tightly clenched fists. Staying in that state as she made her way over to the door again. Facing it as Amy sat up on bed. Watching as Melissa shook her head. Panting heavily as she whispered breathlessly,
“This is too much… I can’t do it!”
“Mommy?”
“I mean… What the hell!… What the hell are they doing?!”

Amy shuffled off the bed as Melissa continued to mumble to herself. Rushing over to her mother. She grabbed a hold of Melissa’s left leg as she tried to step away. Getting brought down to the floor. Melissa grunted with the impact. Feeling her leg still trapped in Amy’s hold. She looked back at the brunette. Suddenly coming back to her senses when she saw the fear in her daughters eyes. The tears that were already building. Melissa swallowed hard. Clearing her throat as she sat up. Holding her hands to Amy as she whispered,
“Come here,”
Amy released her foot from her hold. Hearing it thud against the concrete as she ran into Melissa’s arms. Crying with her mother as Melissa bent her knees. Keeping Amy in her hold as she pressed them into the floor. Figuring her stress and tension were because of tears she had yet to shed. Those that came with the fear of being lost and never to be found. But she was going to have be strong now. Even more so with Amy here. The last thing she ever wanted to be in front of either Jack or Amy, was a weakling.

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

Sticking to the orders he had been given by both Bill and President Palmer, Jack retreated back to the solitude of the house. Stepping inside. Looking over at the crayons and the pieces of paper Amy had left out before he received that call this morning. Wishing things had somehow turned differently. If he hadn’t heard the call. The tests had given them nothing. All they knew was that the saliva and the blood belong to the same man. Jason Young. The footprint they couldn’t recognize. Only getting the idea of the size of the guys foot. Jack shook his head as he turned and locked the front doors. Turning back as he tossed the keys onto the table in the living room. He flicked his finger at the light switch as he stepped into the kitchen. Making his way over to the breakfast bar as the light above him flickered six times before becoming fully active. Lighting the entire room as he pulled out one of the bar stools. Sitting down as he dumped the bag of fast food on the table.

His eyes were continually on the windows that displayed the view of the beach from their back step. Shaking his head as he went through the evidence they had. The few tests they had completed. Getting nothing in return for their hard work. Their only physical lead had been killed by the same people that were holding Melissa and Amy. It was a loop. A continual loop, where all paths lead to one point. Nowhere.

Wilson was starting her work for the evening. Stocking up on caffeine to keep her awake and buzzing. She unlocked the door to the cell. Pushing it open. Finding Amy sat down on the bed. Melissa sat against the wall. Her knees bent and raised. Her forehead resting against her knees. Amy’s cheeks stained with tears. Even more so when she noticed the woman in the doorway. Recognizing her as one of the good people. She sobbed quietly,
“Mommy won’t wake up,”
Wilson raced over to Melissa as Amy stood up on the bed. Shivering as she cried still. Watching as Wilson crouched down in front of Melissa. Her left hand grabbed a firm hold of Melissa’s right shoulder. Shaking her gently at first as she called out,
“Melissa… Melissa, wake up!”
She shook her more. Violently now before she almost screamed,
“Agent Bauer!”
Wilson leaned back as Melissa raised her head. Moaning softly as she opened her eyes. Looking round the room as Wilson released a relieved sigh. Sitting back on her heels as Melissa laid her head back against the wall. Looking over at Amy as the little girl asked,
“What’s wrong with mommy?”
“She’s tired, duck,” Wilson replied softly,
“Mommy need hot dogs?”
“Hot dogs?”
Melissa smiled. Laughing softly as she shook her head. Lowering it as Wilson turned to her,
“What is your daughter talking about?” She asked quietly,
“It’s a long story,” Melissa breathed out softly,
“Mommy doesn’t eat hot dogs so mommy gets tired,” Amy explained, “Mommy needs stuff in hot dogs,”
“Need hot dogs?” Wilson asked,
“I don’t have much iron in my blood,” Melissa explained in a nutshell,
“I take it you’re a vegetarian?”
“Yeah, I am,”
“Why didn’t you say something?”
“Would you give all your details out to your captors?”
“I’m not one of your captors,”
“Nah, you’re just dressed like a normal person,”
“I’m not one of your captors,”
“People can dress differently compared to their personality,”
“You think I’m hiding away in my clothes?”
“I’d rather have my husband reveal himself to me, but not you, so no thank you,”

Wilson shook her head. Getting to her feet as Melissa started to shuffle about. Getting to her feet with the support of the wall behind her. She shook her head as she sat down on the bed. Looking back at Wilson as the doctor stated,
“You need your iron pills, don’t you?”
“… Yes, I do. But don’t bother,”
“Want your daughter to see you collapse?”
“No. I don’t. But I don’t want…” she fell short of finishing her sentence. Hearing Amy’s giggle as the little girl wrapped her arms round Melissa’s neck, “Fine… But is that all you came here for? Iron pills?”
“No. Actually. I didn’t,”
“So what do you want?”
“How about some fresh air?”
“… Out into the firing range again?”
“No!”
“Out into the cage?”
“Well I can’t set you free,”
“So you’re gonna lock us up in cage outdoors until it’s time to come back in,”
...
“This is turning into a prison.”
“What’s a rison?” Amy asked,
“Prison, baby. Not rison,”
“Rison!”
Melissa smiled. Shaking her head before she brought her attention back to Wilson,
“Fine. But she’s going to need something to eat.”
“It’s all arranged. Your sister and Andreas are out for the evening. The guys are too busy with their night in. You’re all clear to come with me,”
Melissa nodded. Getting up from the bed, helping Amy jump down. She kept a firm hold on her hand as they followed Wilson out of the room. And into more free space.

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

After a short meal alone, Jack headed outside. Taking his cell phone with him as he stood out on the deck outside. Looking over the sea as it turned from clear blue to lost navy. The stars small and pointless in the darkness that overwhelmed them. Much like the current situation. Lost leads and pointless tiny extras. They weren’t going to find them with what they had. It was impossible. They needed something else. His mind muddled and numb. He sat down on the top step of the deck. A small glass of scotch in his right hand. Resting on his right knee as he looked out over the ocean. The breeze blew quite hard that night. Feeling cool against his heated skin as he looked out over the water. The clouds that were overhead parted. Making way for the moon to shine through. Lighting up a part of the ocean. Jack shook his head. Trying to figure out something they’d missed. But nothing was coming to mind.

Forensics found nothing else but footprints in the house. The saliva and blood led to the same man. The satellite had been pointless with tracking the men who had taken Melissa. He could only hope that the satellite tracking of the men who took Amy would prove helpful. He sighed heavily once more. Bringing the glass to his lips as he stared down at the sands. Taking the rest of the drink in one gulp. Wiping his lips with his thumb as he swallowed the liquid. Feeling it running down his throat. Heating him inside. He set the glass down beside him before he laid his forearms against his thighs. His hands dangling limply as he lowered his gaze. Wondering what kind of things they were going through. Wondering what their captors had planned for either of them next. His heart ached to imagine what could happen. Almost breaking as he prayed for dear life that they wouldn’t touch either of them, even more so for Amy.

As they were given fresh air. Being told that Wilson was preparing their food. Melissa folded her arms as she stared through the barbed wire fence. Staring into the darkness ahead of them. Hearing the occasional engine of a car passing by. They were close to some sort of road. They weren’t out in the country. As far as she knew, Los Angeles had no country areas. It seemed to be all cityscapes. She shook her head. Raising her hands to the fence. Grabbing a hold of the wires as she closed her eyes. Resting them against the wall as she listened to Amy play around on the broken playground Andreas had brought in for his shooting. She opened her eyes when she heard a squeal behind her. Looking back over her shoulder. She watched as Amy tried to brush off the marks on her clothes,
“What you done baby?” Melissa called to her, tiredly,
“I got something on my clothes,”
“What… What is it?”
“I don’t know,”
“… Come here and… let me look,”
Amy raced over to her as Melissa turned round. Crouching down in front of her. She raised her shirt to look at the mark. Recognizing the paint from one of the paintballs that had hit her. Melissa shook her head. Lowering the shirt as she whispered,
“It’s paint baby,”
“Can you clean it?”
“Yeah, but not right now,”
Amy nodded. Grabbing a hold of Melissa’s hands as the door opened. The two looked over at the opening passage. Finding Wilson stepping outside,
“Come on back inside. Starting to get a little chilly out here,”
Amy clung to Melissa’s hands as she got to her feet. Following Amy indoors. Wilson closed and locked the door behind them. Slipping the keys back into her pocket as she whispered,
“You need to take some more pills,”
“And what did I tell you about that?” she asked back, breathlessly,
“You’re going to put more fear into your daughter than what there already is.”
...
“At least let her have the thought that her mother is being strong and is well,”
Melissa shook her head. Rubbing her eyes before she whispered,
“Fine. Where are the pills?”
“You can take them with your food. Get going,”

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

It was close to ten o’clock by the time Jack had decided to come back inside. Locking the doors and windows. Turning out the lights. He headed upstairs. Looking into Amy’s bedroom. Finding Sparkle the Unicorn sat on the bed. He sighed heavily. Shaking his head. Cursing himself to stop himself from releasing tears. Turning away, he made a brief stop at the bathroom before heading into the bedroom. Groaning heavily as he sat down on the bed. Looking out over the beach through the bedroom windows. Barely able to keep his frustrations inside. He snatched the phone from the bedside table. Calling CTU,
“… Patch me through to Bill Buchanan,”
”Jack?”
“Have you got anything on the satellites?”
”Chloe is still running the images through our systems,”
“What’s taking so long?!”
”The servers became overloaded. We’ve had to start from scratch with a new socket,”
Jack sighed heavily. Closing his eyes as Bill continued on,
”She thinks we’ll have something tomorrow morning,”
“That’s not soon enough,” Jack replied as he opened his eyes. Staring straight ahead as Bill answered back bluntly,
”It’s the best we can do, right now,”
...
”Jack… Just get some rest. You need it. You’re worn out. You’re gonna burn out if you continue.”
“I need to find my family. I’m not gonna rest until I have them,”
”You’re gonna be of no use to us, if you do that! You were almost killed, which means you’re a target. As well as they are. You are all targeted. And until we know who it is that is after you all, I’m not gonna let you wreck this investigation.”
“I’m not wrecking anything Bill. If I have to do the investigation myself without anyone’s help. I’ll do it. I don’t care what regulations I break, to get them back home. I’m gonna do it.”
”I know… Look… Just get some sleep. You need it. As well as I do. Come in tomorrow morning. And we’ll look over the leads we have.”
“… Alright,”

Nothing else was said that night between Jack and CTU. Finally accepting defeat for that day, even though there was very little of it left, Jack laid down on the bed. His head resting against the pillow as his eyes remained fixated on the ocean out before him. Hoping the size of it wouldn’t soon represent the distance that was between them. Both physically and emotionally. Sleep overcame him rapidly. Taking him into a deep sleep where nothing could startle him from it.

After the brief meal they had been given, they were forced back to the cell. Melissa having to carry Amy as the infant started to fall asleep while they made their back there. Wilson unlocked the door and forced it open. Getting no respect from Melissa as she walked inside. Heading over to the bed as Wilson stepped inside. Hoping to reassure her as she told her softly,
“I’m only trying to help you,”
“Yeah right,” Melissa huffed, laying Amy down on the bed. Making sure her head was on the pillow before she fell to her knees. Groaning silently as she felt another wave of fatigue swarm her. She laid her forehead against the bed sheets. Calling out to Wilson as she attempted to move in and help,
“I’m fine… Don’t waste your time,”
“My job is to help-”
“Help make sure we live long enough for someone to fulfil a sadistic fantasy,” Melissa interrupted. Raising her head from the bed. Falling back onto her butt as she whispered, “Yeah, I bloody know that already,”
“I’m a doctor. Not a terrorist,”
“You’re with them. Makes you one of them,”
“When will you learn to trust me?”
“When will you learn that keeping me and my daughter here, is dangerous for us both?”
“They don’t want to harm your daughter,”
“Oh really? And whose they? My parents? Or these idiots?”
...
“And whose this heir Suzanne was talking about earlier? Trying to tell me my sister was pregnant when I killed her?”
“No, she wasn’t,”
“Then what was it?”
“… You ever say this to anyone else. I’ll-”
“Say what?” Jason asked, coming into the room. The girls looked back at the intruder. Watching as Jason folded his arms. Wilson shook her head. Turning and leaving the room as she muttered,
“Nothing,”

Jason nodded. Looking back at Melissa before his eyes flickered over to the sleeping figure on the bed. Bringing his gaze back to Melissa as she warned,
“You’d better remember what I told you! Cause if she comes to me telling me that you’ve touched her. I’ll touch you!”
“Am I suppose to be scared?”
“You’d better be.”
...
“Holding me hostage is one thing. But bringing my daughter into this is another,”
“It wasn’t my intention,”
“My parent’s intentions, was it?”
“… Yes,”
“How? When they don’t know about her?”
“Your parents ordered us to bring you home, and to kill the man you were currently living with.”
“So they said nothing about a child?”
“You think they would want us to kill a child?”
“You were willing to kill her father,”
“And? That’s something different,”
“No it isn’t!”
Jason huffed. Releasing his arms as he reached for the door handle. Closing the door slightly as he stepped back out into the corridor,
“You’d better watch that mouth of yours,” He whispered, cautiously before closing the door completely. Melissa shook her head. Looking back over at Amy before the lights in the room were suddenly turned off. Leaving them in total darkness. She closed her eyes. Staying on the ground as she leaned against the part of the bed Amy wasn’t laying against. Falling to sleep with the help from the fatigue that was already flowing through her. Claming her body within minutes. Already dreading what tomorrow would bring.

Day 7

The corridor was all too familiar. Having seen it in the past CTU building. Jack held his breath as he raced past two security officers crouched down in the corridor. Tending to an officer they had found killed during their search for Nina. Racing past them without saying a word. He reached the first door he could remember peering into that night. Hesitating to open it. Thinking he would find the same thing but a different face. Jack swallowed hard. Closing his eyes as he fought with the feelings that rushed him. His fingers tightened round the cold handle. Opening his eyes as he forced it down with a growl. Pushing the door open. Peering inside. Finding that same chair as he called out,
“Mel?”
He froze at seeing the object. Holding his breath as he moved into the room. Coming round the small fence before he reached the chair. Seeming to look bigger than he could remember. He spun it round quickly. Rather easily to say he was imagining someone to be in it. Whispering silently,
“Mel?”

The chair was empty. His lungs the same as he finally breathed again. Pivoting round on his heels and racing out of the room. Coming back out into the corridor. Finding the two officers still checking out the body on the floor. Reporting in for forensics to come and take it away as Jack headed further down the corridor. Reaching the next set of doors. Both of them locked tightly. Nobody was going to be getting in or out of that room. He panted quietly. Moving towards the next set of doors… locked! Just as secure as the previous two had been. There were no more doors on that corridor. It was going to have to be the next one. He held his breath as he sprinted round the corner. Finding the only door to be in front of him. A few metres beyond his feet. He felt whimpers rising inside him. Trying to force themselves out. Getting no guarantee of release as Jack fought on. More than sprinting towards it. He almost broke the handle as his hand latched onto it. Yanking it down. Close to breaking it away from the metal door before he took a step back. Slamming the bottom of his boot into the door.

The clang inside was echoing and frightening. Sounding as though something had snapped when the door collided with whatever was placed behind it. Jack stormed inside. Looking round to find his office. His anger remained the same but his confusion now began to rise. This wasn’t the corridor to his office. There was no corridor to his office. He turned to look back over his right shoulder. Finding nothing but darkness. No lights above him. Not even a ceiling or a floor. No doorways behind him. Only the path ahead of him was the one he could take. As he walked into his office, he felt that sudden dread fill him. His footsteps slow and hesitant. Wondering if he should turn back and disappear into the shadows. There was no change in his office. Only the size. It seemed… larger. Everything was still here. The two couches. The desk. The computer. The lockers. A grey carpet with a growing crimson patch by the chair.

He froze. Holding his breath before he ran round the side of the desk. Pulling back the chair. Revealing that body he’d been searching for. His breath escaped him. But only in hard, hurtful gasps as he collapsed to his knees. Shaking his heads as crystal tears built up in his eyes. Falling to the floor. Falling against the lifeless body he’d just discovered. He shook his head. Gently turning over the body. The first thing he recognized was her eyes. Deep brown. Staring cold and straight forward. He squeezed his eyes shut. Clenching his teeth as he hung his head. Turning away from the laceration on her neck. Warm crimson fluid still oozing out. Darkening her skin and the floor below her.

Jack opened his eyes as his muscles relaxed. Raising his head. Looking down on her as he reached for her eyes shakily with his right hand. Closing Melissa’s eyes before he lifted her gently. Pulling her close to him as his left hand rose up to cradle the back of her head. Resting it against hers as he whispered through sobs and sniffs his apologies. Punishing himself for his lack of timing and protection that he could give her. About to give in himself until he heard the gentle patter of footsteps on the floor. Jack raised his head from the fold of Melissa’s neck. Looking towards the door with blood smeared across his left cheek. His eyes just as red as the blood as he locked gazes with Amy. Finding the youngster trembling. Holding Sparkle in her arms as her own tears fell. Her voice trembling, filled with fear as she asked,
“Why isn‘t mommy moving?”
Jack swallowed hard. His chest heaving forcefully as Amy asked again,
“What happened to my mommy?”
...
“Did you kill my mommy?”

Bauer Residence, Malibu Beach - Los Angeles

The phone ringing loudly beside him was more than what he needed to wake up from his nightmare. Jack’s eyes shot open at the sudden noise. Sitting up in bed as he reached for the phone. Clearing his throat as he felt his tears already building,
“Y-Ye-Yeah?”
”Jack it’s Bill.”
“W-What is it?”
”… Are you alright?”
Jack sighed heavily. Shaking his head as he closed his eyes. Lowering his head as he whispered with a breaking voice,
“No… No, I’m not okay,”
“What’s going on?”
“I had a dream… A nightmare, even,”
”Tell me what happened,”
“… I was in CTU. Looking for someone. I guess I was looking for Mel. I found her in my office… She was dead. A cut on her throat… There was blood everywhere,”
”We’re gonna find her Jack,”
“It wasn’t just that,”
”… What else happened?”
“Amy came into the room… She saw her mother. And asked me why Mel wasn‘t moving.” He paused. Feeling his tears building quickly. His body trembling as he heard Bill’s hesitation to hear the end of it all, “Asked me what happened to her… Then asked me if I’d killed her,”
”Jack, it’s a dream. You know it won’t happen,”
“How do we know that Bill? It’s been a few days… And they have Amy now… I can’t guarantee anybody’s safety anymore,”
”Not right now you can’t. But you can help to make sure they will have it,”
“… Do you have something?”
”The satellite’s have almost completed their scan. It’ll be another thirty minutes.”
“Okay,”
”Come over to CTU, Jack. I’ll have Bradson talk to you about that dream you had,”
“Sure… Thanks,”

Unknown Location

Melissa awoke first. Grunting softly as she opened her eyes. Raising her head from her arms. Her vision blurred but she recognized the figure stood in the cell with them. The light, now switched on, above them helping her vision. Her anger exploded as she blinked quickly. Getting to her feet as she hissed,
“You son of a bitch!”
Ryan reached for his gun. Readying it and aiming for her chest as he ordered,
“Stay back!”
“You almost killed Jack!”
“I had no other choice!”
Right! Of course you didn’t!”
Ryan growled. Replacing the safety back on the pistol. Holstering his weapon as he calmly answered,
“It was either kill your husband. Or have my head took off my shoulders,”
“Like Andreas would decapitate you,”
“He wouldn’t… Your sister would,”
“Yeah right.”
“You need to wake up your daughter,”
“Why’s that?”
“Cause I say so,” Andreas replied with his smirk as the door to the cell opened. Finding Dave and Jason right behind him. Armed and ready for what was to be done this morning. Andreas gave a quick nod to Ryan. Knowing his place now. His orders. Ryan nodded back in response. Taking one last look at Melissa before he left the room. Closing the door behind him with a echoing clang.

Amy woke up at the noise. Looking up to see Melissa awake and on her feet,
“Mommy?”
Melissa turned back. Facing Andreas again as she replied,
“Stay on the bed baby,”
“Yeah. Stay there.” Andreas added, walking towards Melissa as he finished, “Have a more comfy seat to see the show,”
“You’re not going to touch her,”
“I know. I’m not sadistic enough to do that,”
“But my sister is training you, right?”
“Yeah. I must say… it’s pretty fun,”
“You’re sick,”
“I know. Your sister likes to call me sick fucker,”
“Fucker?” Amy repeated suddenly. Melissa turned back to her,
“Amy! No! Don’t say that word!”
“Why?”
“Cause it’s not nice,”
“Nasty people say it, mommy?”
“Yes, they do,”
Andreas smirked. Chuckling in his throat as she faced him again,
“You can’t teach her correctly, then I‘ll do it for you,” he informed Melissa as he folded his arms for a moment,
“You can’t either,”
“No… But I can make her scream,”
“You won’t go anywhere near her!”
“Oh, I don’t need to go near her,”

Their eyes remained locked as Andreas lowered his arms. Continuing to stare at the defensive mother. Waiting to see what it was that was going to make her daughter scream. When it suddenly dawned on her. But not soon enough. She felt Andreas’ fist collide with her cheek. Forcing her to stagger back as Amy got to her knees. Screaming out,
“Mommy!”
As she watched her slam into the wall. Barely getting a second to recover. Only having the chance to look up at Andreas before he punched her again. Causing her to lean over slightly before a powerful blow to her stomach sucked the air out of her. Gasping viciously before she collapsed to her knees. Her right hand pressed against the concrete floor as her left arm pressed against her stomach. Fighting to get air into her deflated lungs. She squeezed her eyes shut, listening to Amy’s sobs as the little girl continued to scream for her mommy to get up,
“Do as she says!” Andreas barked. Melissa didn’t move. She couldn’t. Still too dazed from the lack of oxygen. She took in another breath before Andreas turned to Dave. Giving him a quick nod before he brought his attention back to Melissa. Barking at her again, with a few spits of saliva,
“Get up or I kill your daughter!”
“No!” she shouted breathlessly, “Leave her alone!”
“Get up!”

Melissa raised her head. Her arm still against her stomach as she forced herself to her feet. Looking over at Amy. Finding Dave standing by the bed. His hand over the gun in his holster. Andreas smirked. Hissing viciously, commandingly,
“Look at me,”
Swallowing hard… she obeyed the command. Turning to look at Andreas. Seeing that smirk on his face grow before he punched her again. Receiving a cry from Melissa. And a scream from Amy as she watched her mother get beaten to the floor once again. Unable to get up this time. Spitting out the blood in her mouth as Andreas demanded impatiently,
“Get up!”
...
“Get up now!”
...
“Dave!”
“No!” she cried out again, “No… Just…”
She paused. Releasing a heavy breath before she whispered,
“Please… Just leave my daughter alone,”
“Get up. Do as you’re told… And I will,”

A soft huff escaped her as she forced her body to work. Hearing Amy’s whimpers as Melissa braced herself against the wall. Taking the next series of blows willingly. Thrown around like a rag doll. Amy’s screams and cries filling the room continually. Drowning out Melissa’s own cries as the blows became more severe. Bleeding from her nose and lip. Bruises covering her arms. Andreas grabbed a hold of her shoulder with his right hand. Clenching his fist as she leaned over. Barely able to stand up. About to fall unconscious when Andreas took her the rest of the way. Falling into darkness as his elbow collided in the tender area between her shoulder blades. One last grunt was forced out of Melissa before she hit the floor. Unconscious. Out cold completely. Amy froze. Seeing her mother in the state she was in. Her eyes fixated on the broken figure. Andreas nodded. Prodding her gently with his boot until he was satisfied what she was going to be out for a while. He nodded. Turning round as he yelled,
“Let’s go boys,”
The two nodded. Following Andreas out of the room. Closing and locking the cell door behind them.

Amy jumped off the bed. With tears still streaming down her cheeks. She sacredly approached Melissa’s frozen body. Her tears still dribbling down her cheeks as she sat down next to her. Placing both hands on Melissa’s shoulder. Shaking her gently as she sobbed out her words,
“Mommy… Mommy, wake up,”
Melissa never moved. Her body simply moving slowly with the shakes Amy gave her,
“Mommy… we gotta go home… Mommy,”

Comm Team, CTU - Los Angeles

Jack sat on the couch in Bill’s office. Staring straight ahead of him as they waited for some sort of sign from the Comm team. Their thirty minutes was up. What was taking them so long? The wait was torturing. Almost as badly as the images that were still stained in his mind. Hearing those lines over and over in his head… Why isn’t mommy moving?…What happened to my mommy?… Did you kill my mommy?.

Jack fought back the tears clearing his throat as he got to his feet. Scratching at the back of his head as Bill turned away from the computer screen. Looking up at Jack as he asked,
“How you feelin?”
“Not so great,”
Bill nodded. Understanding him fully. About to respond when the intercom buzzed on his desk. Bill leaned over. Pressing down on ‘receive’,
“Buchanan,”
”It’s Chloe. The scan is finished,”
“What do you have?”
“We tracked the vans that took Amy from the house,”
“And?”
”We have the location where they’re holding her. We scanned the base with infra red. There’s a group inside. Along with a heat signature that has been isolated and left alone,”
“That has to be Mel!” Jack replied,
“Thanks Chloe. I’ll have teams sent out immediately,”
The intercom fell silent as Bill released his hold on the button. Looking at Jack before he encouraged,
“Go!”

Amy’s tears had dried moments before the cell door started to produce more noise. Gasping quietly as she heard the clunk and chings of keys battering the door. The locks being released. She turned back to Melissa as she continued to lay unconscious on the floor. Shaking her harder now as she whispered,
“Mommy! Wake up! Mommy! Mommy you gotta wake up!”
...
“Mommy!”
Turning to look back at the door when Melissa wouldn’t move still. The door opened with a shivering squeal. Making Amy shiver as footsteps echoed from behind it. Whimpering quietly before Wilson stepped inside. Gasping herself when she came to look upon the scene she faced. Her eyes darting to look at Amy as the youngster sobbed,
“Mommy won’t wake up,”
Wilson stepped inside fully. Closing the door behind her as she whispered with her own fear,
“Oh no!”
Racing over to the two as Amy got to her feet. Standing back as Wilson got down onto her knees. Prodding Melissa’s shoulder as she called out,
“Agent Bauer!”
...
“Agent Bauer!”
...
“For God’s sake! I’m going to kill him” Wilson cursed as she wiped away some of the blonde locks. Placing two of her fingers against Melissa’s neck. Nodding steadily. Smiling even as she pulled her fingers away. Searching her pockets for what she needed as Amy asked,
“Is my mommy dead?”
“No, she’s not dead.” Wilson answered. Finding what she was looking for. She leaned over slightly.

There was one click… then another… a hideous aroma filled her nostrils. Making Melissa jerk and snort in response. Wilson pulled the smelling salts away. Grabbing her shoulder as she called to her,
“It’s alright! It’s okay! Relax!”
Amy ran forward. Sitting down next to Wilson as Melissa opened her eyes. Looking round the room before she asked quietly,
“Where is he?”
“Andreas is a little busy with your sister.” Wilson explained before asking, “What happened?”
“Bad man kept hitting my mommy,” Amy cried suddenly. Wilson turned to look at the child before turning back to Melissa. Hearing her whisper,
“He did it… in front of Amy,”
“In front of your daughter! He beat you up in front of her!?”
Melissa nodded. Bringing her fingertips to her lips. Hissing quietly when she felt the open cut,
“Christ sakes!”
“Easy. I’ll sort out everything here.” Wilson whispered softly, “Let me just go and get my things. And I’ll help you out,”
Melissa nodded slowly. Rolling over onto her back as Wilson got to her feet. Turning round and racing for the door of the room. Locking them both alone inside again.

Amy shuffled forward. Laying her chin down on Melissa’s stomach. Forcing her to lift her head and look down at her. Looking down at Amy as she asked,
“Why didn’t mommy wake up?”
“… It’s a little difficult to explain baby.”
“Is mommy gonna die?”
“No… No, I’m not gonna die.” Melissa breathed as she sat up. Watching Amy lift her chin and sit back. Her eyes following Melissa as she got to her feet, “Mommy’s just going to get the shit kicked out of her for a few more days,”
“Mommy?”
“Yeah?”
“Can we go home now?”
Melissa huffed softly. Shaking her head before she reached down for Amy’s hand. Helping her get to her feet before they walked back over to the bed. Sitting down steadily before she answered,
“No. We can’t go home just yet.”
“Why not? I want my daddy,”
“We’ll see daddy again soon. Okay? He’ll come and find us.”
Amy whined softly. Shaking her head before she moaned,
“I wanna go home!”
“Baby, we can’t… I can’t think of a way to get out of here. We’re going to have to stay here until we can think of something,”
“Why can’t daddy come and get us?”
“I’m sure he’s coming. It might just take a while.”

ETA… 5 minutes

Riding in the back of the SUV, with Tony on his right. Jack brought the cell phone back to his ear,
“Bill, it’s Jack. Got anything new on the compound?”
”Negative. Satellite is still showing the same number of hostiles,”
“Any idea where they might be keeping Mel and Amy?”
”We think they’re being kept in a cell in the North East area of the compound. The systems detected a third heat signature inside the room but left approximately a minute ago.”
“Alright. Keep me posted if anything changes,”
”Will do,”
“Anything changed?” Tony asked as Jack flipped the cell phone shut. Returning his attention back to his PDA as he replied,
“Nothing serious. They think Mel and Amy might be in the North East area of the compound. We go in from the North West side. Make our way across.”
“How many hostiles?”
“Not many.”
“Any idea if Burrows and Young are still in there?”
“They have to be. Their bodies haven’t been found. And they haven’t been spotted on the satellites or on the streets.”
“… You think we’ll find them?”
“We have to. I’m not leaving that place without them,”
“We’re two minutes out Agent Bauer,” the driver called back to them,
“Copy that. Switching to radio frequency alpha six.”
“Copy,”
”Jack, do you copy?” Bill’s voice crackled over the earpiece in his right ear,
“I copy. Go ahead,”
”We’ve received word that the Vice President has ordered the marines to shoot down anything that leaves the compound,”
“What?”
”He doesn’t want anything getting out of there alive.”
“My wife and daughter are in there! What does he think he’ll accomplish?”
”He thinks the terrorists may try to escape. He wants to them to be brought down if they try to,”
“The teams can handle of them that try to get away. I’m goin in there for Mel and Amy. No one else,”
”I understand that Jack. But these orders are from the Vice President,”
“Get in touch with President Palmer. I need to talk with him before I go in,”
“No time for that Jack,” Tony responded before Bill could speak. Feeling the car come to a stop. Outside the compound on the North West side,
“You’re gonna have to hurry and patch me through to the President. Me and Tony are about to go in,”
”I’ll see what I can do,”

Cell, North East Side

The cell door was unlocked once more. Finding Wilson sneaking inside. Holding the first aid bag in one hand. Another slung over her shoulder. Amy shuffled back on the bed as Melissa pushed away from the wall. Ignoring the aches and pains as she asked,
“Where’s Andreas?”
“You won’t be able to fight back in the condition you’re in. Take a seat,”
Melissa shook her head. Sitting down carefully on the bed. Looking back at Amy as she asked quietly,
“You alright baby?”
Amy smiled and nodded. Watching as Wilson came to kneel down in front of them,
“This is going to take a while. I need to know what damage has been done. Where you were hit. And-”
The three girls jumped and squealed as the door was violently forced open. Amy grabbed a hold of the shirt Melissa wore as she reached back for the child’s tiny hand with hers. Holding her steady as Wilson shot to her feet. Standing in front of the two. Defending them from Andreas as she shouted,
“Don’t think you’re getting near her again!”
“I’m not… yet!” Andreas spat out, “CTU have found us. We need to move the prisoners,”
“They’re not going anywhere until I know she is fit to travel,”
“You can do it in the chopper. We have to get out of here now.”
“Where’s your proof? This could just be a set up to beat the hell out of her some more!”
“CTU’s here,” Suzanne announced as she walked into the room, “Get them ready to be taken over to the second compound. We can’t waste time here. Our scanners have picked up two of their agents are already inside! We need to get out of here.”

Corridor, North West side

Tony peered round the corner of the wall they hid behind. Facing Jack as he nodded quickly. Jack nodded. Raising his gun as he jumped out from the corner. His eyes scanning steadily left and then right before he took the first step forward. Hearing Tony coming up quickly behind him. But keeping a fair distance apart in case of trouble starting,
”Satellite’s showing three new heat signatures in the room where Mel and Amy be,” Bill reported,
“What about the other hostiles?”
”Four are positioned in a room not too far away from you. Others are scattered over the compound,”
“What about the back up teams?”
”Bravo team is making its way inside from the South side of the compound. Delta are moving in from the North,”
“Copy that. What about the President?”
”He’s still in a meeting with the joint chiefs. We’re not sure how long he’ll be,”
“We need to get him to cancel the marines’ orders.”
”I’ll try and get through to him again. I’m switching over to Chloe,”
“Copy that…” Jack paused as he neared the end of the corridor. Lowering his gun. Taking a quick look into the passage on the right. Finding it clear. With no sign of security cameras or sensors. Before he turned and peeked round the corner on his left. Finding another passage. Cleared in the same style as the previous passage, “Chloe, you copy?”
”I’m here Jack,”
“I’ve got two passages. Which one gets us to the room?”
”They both do. But the one on the left will get you there quicker,”
“Copy that,”

Jack turned back to face Tony,
“Passage on the left. Area’s clear.”
Tony nodded. Readying himself as Jack turned back. Raising his gun again as he stepped out from behind the wall. Walking forward six steps before Tony followed. Checking the passage behind them before following Jack’s footsteps. Taking a quick glance into a small alcove on his left before facing forward once more. Making his way silently towards the door at the end of the passage they were in.

Cell, North East Side

“There is no way you can move her!” Wilson objected as Suzanne called in for Ryan to take the two away,
“I can do what I want,” Suzanne replied, hanging the radio on her belt. Facing Melissa as she barked, “Get up!”
“Get lost,” Melissa replied, “No way in hell am I going anywhere,”
“They want to see you alive. I’m not going to deliver a dead body,”
“You’re not going to deliver a live one either.”
“If you think all of this delay is going to help CTU. You can think again.”
“It’ll help someone,”
“Jack huh? He must be the one that’s inside the compound,”
“Daddy’s coming for us?” Amy asked, innocently,
“Yeah he’s coming baby.” Melissa answered. Getting to her feet but stood her ground. Looking over Wilson’s shoulder as the doctor came to stand in front of her,
“You either have your men take care of CTU. Or you all get captured,” Wilson negotiated, “But I’m not letting you move these two,”
“Fine,” Suzanne sighed, shrugging her shoulders. Having to speak no other word as Andreas brought out his gun. Melissa gasped and stepped back. Trying to help Wilson but the gun was fired first. Pushing Wilson out of her way.

Corridor, North Side

Jack froze at the gunshot that echoed round the corridors. Turning back, glancing over his shoulder at Tony. Hearing that scream that followed the sudden bang. Shouting from more than just one person. Recognizing the voice. Jack turned back. Hearing Chloe’s voice on the other end,
”There’s four hostiles approaching your position Jack!”
“Which direction?”
”Two are coming from behind you. Two more ahead of you,”
“Any way to avoid them?”
”If you’re fast enough, there’s a room you can hide in. It’s just further down the corridor,”
“Copy that. Tony we gotta move! Now!”
Tony nodded. Jumping forward into a run as Jack raced ahead. Spotting the hidden room from the corner of his eye. He staggered slightly as he came to an abrupt stop. Turning as he hissed,
“Down here,”
Tony responded with another brief nod. Following the blonde into the room. Closing the door as b
