I am the night!

I'm going to be joining up if I don't get into uni this year, well I'll be applying at least. I tried to get in when I was 16 but it fethed (I lied about my age and said I was 18, they found out) up so I can't attempt the training again until 2010. I view the army as something that can help me in life. If I had the option I would emigrate back home and sign up for the US army, but I can't do that, too much work put in over here. I have immense respect and admiration for all soldiers (with exceptions in extreme cases of course i.e. prisoner abusers), I come from a large family with a lot of military history on both sides (American/English), including family members currently serving in the Middle East. So I've always had a positive biased view on the military and there's little that can change that. |

You're lying, I've been you
|
Back when I was in school I had considered it, not for college or anything, that was easy to get into. I just wanted the work out to be honest. I was a great all around athlete and was looking forward to 50 mile runs and so on. I then broke my neck and hip and couldn't join up. Since then my thoughts on it have changed dramatically because in the past year I've had 4 really close friends that I played football with...guys that I called my brother and were closer to me then my own family, get killed in Iraq...well 3 in Iraq, one got killed on base here in America. So its hard to favor it to much when you lose those close to you. But in anyway, I do still support those that join up and wish them the world. |

I'm also thinking of joining up, but not in the Army, the Royal Air Force. I hear they have better standards than the Army. I would like to be a Weapons Operator, if not I'd be a standard Regiment Gunner, but I would need to get in shape. |

One of a Kind

I considered joining when i started my A-levels as i didnt plan on going to uni but after a bad fall from a horse screwed my hip up that kinda went out the window and i ended up at uni. @UrbanCombat: My brother's mate is in the RAF, he loves it but it took him a few attempts to get in, their standards are pretty high. |

I've been thinking of joining to help pay for college when I get out, but I'd need two medical waivers... |

Army builds up some character, it strength people up both physically and mentally… but – You have to understand you'll face all kind of difficulties, you'll pass experiences and some of them will be of a kind you'll never forget: sometimes good ones, but many of them will be bad ones. You'll have to face cruelty, and you'll have to be cruel yourself at times. You'll meet wonderful people, but you'll also meet people who care about their reputation more then what they care about your life, take that into count. I'm very happy I'm done with my duty service, but I'm also very glad I've been there. It makes you more mature, more willing to live and more capable to face with life. In the end, it's all up to whether you can take out the best from every opportunity, and who know? You might like it so much you would like to stay there. Some people I knew thought they'll never manage because they're too much individual: and here they are, talking like a real generals |

I've also got a family history in the armed forces. My uncle and great grandfather on my mothers side were in the Army and my cousin is currently serving in the Para's in Afghanistan (he's also served two terms in Iraq). On my Dad's side of the family my Grandad served in the Navy and my Uncle in the RAF; from a regular pilot to a member of the Red Arrows. From a personal perspective I've no desire to serve in any of them. I'm by no means the pinnacle of physical fitness and I don't think I have the strength to be subservient to the wims of politicians. It is something that's always intrigued me though, I've always fancied the idea of joining the TA some time down the line. |

I would quite like to join the Army. Army life sounds somewhat of a heaven to me, I would hate any 'desk jobs' or any job that you have to do the same thing over and over again, it's too tedious for me. There is more varitey in the average day of someone in the Army. Doubt I ever will join though, I doubt my parent would like it, not to mention the pay sucks. |

I have alot of respect for soldiers who are willing to put their arse on the line for Queen and country and tend to go unappreciated. Joining the armed forces should be a great experience for you but just be 100% sure what your signing up for because as I'm sure you are aware it's pretty tough. I on the other hand am the cowardly type and would run, screaming from any kind of confrontation with the enemy, so I would be pretty useless. Even if I wasn't a chicken I'd refuse to be cannon fodder for Gordon Brown in a stupid conflict that has nothing to do with us at all. Also after watching saving private ryan (D-day section) I was completely deterred from any kind of military service because I found it so disturbing. |

I disagree. It is the air force that get farthest behind enemy lines and it is them saving the army's ass with support. If it wern't for the air force, half of the wars the U.S. was in would have been lost and we probobly would not be a country now. I have thought about joining the U.S. Marines when I was older and I wanted to be a sniper (I still wouldn't mind doing that) Everybody at my school considers me an excellent leader. |

There's no way in hell I'd join any armed forces the way things are going now. Even if I did, I'd want to be in the Marines. |

I sometimes fancy the idea of trying to join the Navy Seals or the Marines. I would love to try to be a sniper. I also have this urge to learn about different sorts of weapons and currently existing technology. The training could also be very beneficial in life. |

I like Vasina's perspective of the armed forces and I respect you a bit more knowing that you were once part of it. Myself, I've been thinking of joining since I left High school but it seems that alot of unexpected things happen in my life that prevents me from joining. I see myself having a career in the military sometime, maybe in the near future but I have to make sure everything is straightened out in my life before I do join up. No use caring in extra baggage If I do get in. |
