I sometimes fancy the idea of trying to join the Navy Seals or the Marines. I would love to try to be a sniper.

I also have this urge to learn about different sorts of weapons and currently existing technology. The training could also be very beneficial in life.

The SEALS and the Marines are top notch sects but are by far two of the hardest ones to gain entry. You'd be very hard pushed to join either.

All you really have to do is go to a recruiting office and fill out some paperwork for the marines. And with the Navy SEALS, you have to be in the Navy long enough to transfer over to the SEALS.

Russian Spatnaz have it the worst. They are beaten and probobly trained the best. Almost all of their weapons are variations of the ak-47

Hmm.....7 years? Wouldn't it be a little late to be applying 7 years later? I mean the age has got to be a component there.....

LOL that's what I was thinking Black Devil.

..obviously I was misinformed about the S.A.S. then. I thought it was a whole if you manage to get in, you must drop your life and not tell anyone what your doing. I also thought there were 'S.A.S. selections'.

Hmm..

got this from the S.A.S. wikipedia article;

although personnel are broadly skilled in all areas following 'Selection' and 'Continuation' training.

It says nothing about applying.

From what I know, it's an invite-only thing, but you have to show interest in it.

Also I think you are allowed to tell people that you're in, but you can't tell them what you do, even wives. A lot of families have been broken apart because of that.

Well, i'm in the US Navy and i work directly with both US Navy and US Marines. I like being I guess it's alright i can't wait to get out. I've learn alot from weapons handling to putting up with some real fucked up mentally. I mean I've gotten to trian with the Aussie's, Baraini's, and such Navy's since I've been in and that will help me when i get out to go for Police and SWAT. Also i have gone to places like Hawii, Austraila, Siapan, Guam, Signapore, Barain, Jebal Ali, and Thailand. I mean it's been fun for the last 3 years.

This is turning into an S.A.S topic so I'll just start a topic about selection in this category

EDIT: I'll post about selection ;)

should be doing something else right about now.
I'd definetly think about a career in the armed forces after all I'd probably throw myself off a building if I was stuck in my hometown for the rest of my life. I'd probably try of the royal air force first then probably the Royal Navy second.I'd try for the Royal Marines but I'd probably need a lot of courage to do so.As for the army it hasnt even crossed my mind.I've seen pictures of bullying that the officers put the recruits through in the tabloids and it doesnt seem fair to fight for queen and country when to get there you might be bullyied like a weak school kid.

The biggest reason for me to join an armed forces would be so I could get laser eye surgery!

Other than that I guess it would be so I can at least say that I have served for my country.

I'll probably want to try and join the SEALS or something. Nothing says 'super awesome' as being the small surgical strike team sent out on stealth missions. Fastest trigger pullers too!

But its gonna be tough as hell. All that water stuff freaks me out just thinking about it.

In most places in America, if you are licensed to carry a concealed weapon, that is legal regardless of whether or not you are in the military.

And to the people wanting to join the Marines/SEALs/etc because they think 'there would be nothing cooler' please do all of us who actually are in the military a favor and do not join. There are many reasons to join the military, but joining a combat unit because 'there's nothing cooler' is not one. I know for a lot of people this is cliche, but there is nothing remotely cool about real combat. I study under, train with, and go to school with many people who are combat veterans from all conflicts the US has been involved in from Viet Nam up to and including class mates who have 4 tours of duty under their belt in OEF/OIF, including Army SF (Green Beret), Army Rangers, and other more mainstream units. I also go to school and train with people who joined the Army because they thought it would be cool, and most of them made the unfortunate error of letting the combat vets on campus know this. Bad idea.

They don't get yelled at, but they find out later that if said vet is a part of Cadre, he will make your life miserable ever so subtly during any training, from PT in the mornings to 3 day FTXs. Anything you do wrong that would normally be no big deal, will earn you extra PT. And enjoy getting volunTOLD for anything and everything after word gets around with Cadre that you are a d-bag. The combat vets on campus know these people will drag serious men and women down, and will cost the Army money sending them to training schools they will fail and/or paying for college they will either drop out of or transfer out of to a civilian program. So the Cadre will do almost anything they can to weed these people out early on.

If you plan on not taking my advice, at least go enlisted, because after you fail BUD/S or Ranger School or whatever you signed up for, we can at least make you into something we need like a truck driver or a mechanic. Do not sign up to be an officer because the money the Army spends on your college they will never get back after you transfer or drop out.

That is true, however, if one person who has no business signing up takes my advice, that is one more slot in Ranger School or BUD/S or the X-Ray program that can go to a qualified recruit, a National Guard Soldier whose branch of service has to foot the bill for their training instead of the Federal Gov't., or an ROTC Cadet. That would be worth the 5 minutes it took me to type the post.
