Snake is only.....

Why are so many people attached to Sold Snake so much? He's only been in the first game, one fourth of the second, and the fourth. Yet people were ecstatic to play him in 4. Seriously, I feel closer to Big Boss than SS....

I can relate to Solid Snake much more than Big Boss, who you only play in 3 and I'm guessing shows up in 4.

I just see Solid Snake as cooler, especially in his younger MGS days ;)

Yes, that's a spring roll.

You play as Solid Snake in Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (and MG2: Snake's Revenge) Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (Snake Vs Monkey) and Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as Metal Gear Ac!d and MG Ac!d 2, so there have been a lot of the games with him.

I think Solid Snake > Big Boss, he's just that much more cooler.

I'm better at Metal Gear Solid than you will ever be.

Solid Snake is an icon. He is admired and loved by everyone. I think the reason you feel closer to Big Boss is because he had emotions, wasn't perfect and was all in all just human. Solid Snake is the perfect soldier, battle ready and worthy of all respect. Thats why everyone loves Solid Snake. Also because he was a clone, but has broken away from the government to do what he believes in. He is a true soldier. He is a true patriot :D

I prefer Solid cause of some of the reasons MachinegunHedgehog just said, although he is a clone he isn't perfect, cause he still feels like crap each second of his life, talking about crawling over bodies and feeling no remorse etc, he's a damn good fighter, but for some part of it he didn't understand why, and why he didn't feel much for doing it. Then he realised about his cloning, and he split away from private ops missions to do his own thing with Otacon to try and make the world a better place, and I can't wait to experience MGS4 and see his aims and goals.

He's always been at the centre of events for the most part. Even in MGS3, he was subtly involved by the clear similarities in looks between Solid and Naked (They could've made him look like Liquid, Solidus or even just completely unique). He's the experienced veteran, he's the cool, calm and collective one :)

I think for alot of people MGS1 was the first game they played of the series, and he was the character we got to know and love. For the older among us, he was the character of MG1 and MG2, again, being the character they became attached to.

Lets face it, in number 2 it had alot to do with his motives and Philanthropy, and MGS3 showed the man that would become the flawed Solid Snake.

Cool, calm and collected, nah hes a raving madman, trying to turn the world into an eternal battlefield just so soldiers aren't bored or undervalued :P

He may have suffered a lot, but remember what Solid has to go through, he has to live knowing what his Father has done, and despite learning that he supposedly killed him, judging by a few guesses at MGS4, has to face him again, you think thats easy? He's also one of few who has fought for control over himself, he is his own man.

Oh and Solid wasn't simply born with his abilities, he had an advantage certainly, but he wasn't simply born a war veteran, Big Boss was a good warrior, but he didn't pass knowledge and training down to Solid.

You're not alone

when your like 11 or 12 and paly MGS1, you sort've have the same admiration for snake that Meryl had. He's a flesh and bones man, he has no special supernatural power. He's sjut a man who is good at waht he's at. I guess Solid Snake was sort of my hero as a kid rather than Spiderman or something else.

I agree Sadistic-G. He was my hero too. Far more so than comic book heroes, simply because he was a man with no special abilities, and a man's man. To me he was like my dad in a video game. Protective and awesome (though my dad has never been in the army :P ).

This. I was 7 when I first played MGS, Snake was one of my first role models and heroes.

Don't even think about using auto-fire, or I'll know.

Me, on the other hand, I like Big Boss more than Solid Snake; Big Boss shows many emotions and somehow seems also naiver and kinder than the pervy Solid Snake. Solid Snake to me looks colder, hardened. In a way, though, that is charming too.
I also like Big Boss because of how he developed from "hero" to "villain" in his storyline. Makes him sort of a tragic hero and gives him an interesting ambivalence of good character - evil character.

I must say, however, my first game of the saga was not MGS1, so it may have influenced my opinion.

Big Boss isn't pervy, so all those options to press R1 and star at Eva's breasts wasn't pervy?

Yes, I would say Solid is colder and hardened, he's been through similar things to Big Boss, in fact I'd say almost the same, and Snake shows he is stronger by not turning mad and trying to turn the world into a dream of eternal battle.

Solid killed Jaeger, his best friend, only to see him return to get absolutely destroyed by Liquid, his own brother. He watches Meryl getting sniped, crying out for his help. I'd say he's been through a very similar ordeal to BB, but he has pulled through, as is evident in MGS4, he is still fighting for himself. Though BB is fighting for his own desires, it involves the deaths of many innocent people, and a lot of suffering, Solid's goal is really to end all that, he doesn't enjoy the killing and the war, he just finds it to be in his aura, its what he does best, which you could say is brought dwon from Big Boss and Snake being trained from youth to kill, however we see stray parts of a character inside Solid that yearn for it to stop, that guides his goals, and its this that makes me admire Solid.

You made a good point, Shyne. But the fact that Big Boss kinda lost it after all what he went through, is a character flaw that makes me like him even more (accentuating his above mentioned "tragic figure" and hero/villain role). Solid Snake is a slightly less complex character just as in he continues to go on and do as he's told. Many times in MGS4 I when everyone kept relying on Solid without doing much to help, I was all like "Snake, rebel yourself against this abuse, dammit!! They're all treating you like a puppet!!". But Snake didn't. Big Boss, however, did so, as much as he did that in a rather dangerous manner.

Also: yeah, Big Boss stared at EVA's boobies, but that isn't being a pervert, that's being a male. XD Solid Snake however... I dunno, the way he seems to hits on all the girls and all. He always seemed to have more a pervy vibe than Big Boss. XD

Not pervy, just desperate ;). I think his hitting on women was a nod on Kojima's part to James Bond, while I hate to say it. Like you said, its just a natural thing to hit on women. He does it in a sarcastic way that lifts the mood.

Well, if you look at Kojima's previous games he worked on, Snatcher included, you'll see why a pervy side comes in.

I feel more attached to Big Boss actually, he just seems nicer, the kinda guy you could ask for a cuddle if you're feeling a bit down, I even liked him when I played Metal Gear, Solid Snake and Snake's Revenge, before I even played any of the PlayStation games, even though he wasn't really that massively featured in any of those games, you can just tell he's a massive character. I don't feel any real attachment to Snake at all, I would have had no complaints if they'd just got rid of him altogether after MGS3 and just carried on the series with Big Boss.
