How did you come across MGS1?

I was 9 at the time (1999) when i first played it, but i was never really into stealth/shoot em up's at the time, It was on easter day me and my brother got two games, I got rugrats, and my brother got MGS1.. After a couple of days i decided to give MGS1 a try and fell in love with it straight away..
Thats how i come to find MGS1..

Feck off!

I saw it advertised in the Official Playstation Magazine in early 1997, it had the original CGI trailer (where Fox has a lightsaber for some reason), the same week I saw my first Bond movie and the whole spy thing had me hooked.

It was in a few of the OPS magazines way back then... one month they had a video advertising it, and the other month had the playable demo. The family and I were hooked and purchased it on the day of EU release for around fifty quid. Ouchies. ^_^

It was 1998 and MGS had been out for a few months and my dad had got my PSX at Christmas time with a few games. My dad had a friend at work who he called "Plowboy" (lol) who was a big gamer and he did trading and buying games from him. One magically delicious day my dad arrived at his work and his friend had a game, a game that you guys might have heard of called "Metal Gear Solid." My dad asked him if it was any good and he replied, "Man, this is the best game I've ever played." or something along those lines. So my dad asked him if he would sell it and he agreed; that evening when I got home from school he showed me the game, he played for the first 30 minutes and I was amazed at the cinema of the game and how it felt like I was apart of some kind of movie. After a while he got frustrated (kept getting spotted on the deck lol) and passed it off to me, which is when I fell in love with Snake and stealth action, sneaking around the guards gave me a much bigger feeling of accomplishment than killing a bunch of "bad guys" ever had.

It was that week, that we finished the game and I couldn't wait until I got my next taste of Snake. (Ironic.)

I first saw a video on the first demo (Demo 1) that came with the first Playstation. Thought it looked good and as soon as the first demo came with OPM magazine, I started playing that over and over, fooling around with the guards in the Heliport all the time. The first day the game was in stores I bought it. Still got it, never sold it, and is in perfect condition. ^_^

I played the demo, went up to meeting the DARPA chief. I must have played that demo dozens of times. I was 12 at the time, i saved up for the game before it came out, then bought it on it's first day of release, £35, probably the best £35 i ever spent

Where's November?

A friend of mine had it a little while before me and was constantly talking about how great it was and then a few days later when I was out shopping with some spending money, I saw it and thought "well, why not?" and obviously have never regretted that decision.

I arrived a bit late to the show...

I first started getting interested in the MGS just this year as the release of MGS4 loomed. The game looked sick and I started reading a seeing stuff on this classic franchise that I somehow missed. I've been a big gamer my whole life dating back to the 70's with the Magnavox Odyssey, Atari 2600, NES, etc. Never played an MGS game.

I decided to rectify that in the last couple of weeks and picked up MGS: TTS for the GC since I have a Wii and can play it. Finished it last week and loved it. Borrowed a friend's PS2 and now I am 6 hours into MGS2 and loving it.

I bought an OPM with the demo in it where you got to save the darpa chief.

I was around 12-13 at the time a young'n, I loved every bit of it and played it OVER AND OVER!!

There was this security guard at my junior high then that would trade games with us. One day he walks up to us and ask "Anyone heard of that new metal gear solid game"

I was like "I got a demo that's it"

Security guard responds with "I'll give you doom 3 and some NBa title"

I jumped on the oppurtunity and never had the demo again.

I was kicking myself after that. I should've realized I was too broke to actually buy the game, and that my parents weren't going to buy it for me.

Luckily after a couple months I was able to trade Bushido Blade and Some mortal Kombat to a friend who couldn't get over the idea of NOT killing everyone.

Still have that copy and god was it worth trading in BOTH games, I was sceptical at the time

Good times...

My cousin rented it when I was staying at his house, me and the younger cousins watched him play through it, and we became fixated on the story, it drew us, and was addicting. We cheered my cousin on during play, trying to help him and figure out how to beat the bosses. He got all the way to Vulcan Raven because of our dedicated play but at that time I unfourtinitly had to leave. Not too long after I was seeing lots of advertisements for Metal Gear Solid 2 and recalled the first game, when 2 came out, I saved money and bugged my mom to get me MGS1 and MGS2, I played through MGS1 first and recalled it and loved actually playing it myself, and when I got to MGS2 I was utterly confused by the deeper storyline and different characters but I loved 2 as well.

That’s what my mentor told me. Politics are fickle, they change with the times. So long as we remain loyal to our countries, solders like us need nothing to believe in. She died out of loyalty, not to justice, not to her country. To herself, to the mission." -Big Boss: Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops

My next door neighbour had the game and let me play it, I was blown away by how deep the story was when compared to the games I was used to playing (Crash Bandicoot lol) I never managed to complete it.

A few years later though my friend got MGS2 and I did the same, was amazed, went out and played MGS1 and completed that and have been a fan of the series ever since

Surreal is it?

My dad bought it for me for some random reason perhaps because of the slogan: Tactical Espionage Action and the interesting back cover. Hell, it was a unique game. More cinematic than Resident Evil and I was just blown away by the story and gameplay and didn't get enough of sleep that day.

Yeah, I got the demo from OPM. Issue 42; I've still go it. ^_^

Was actually massive though, like people've said, it went right up to the DARPA chief.

First got the game on holiday in morecombe in 2000 for £10 i have no idea why i bought it it was the cover i think. I couldn't play it for a week but i don't think i stopped playing it when i got home, I became hooked and then learned that there would be a sequel and the fascination for the series grew from there and i have just completed mgs 4 about 30 mins ago.
