Wow, but seriously, if Snake could not have stop Metal Gear that would have been his last resort. So, what do you think? Would you have launched that missile?

Oh yeah!

I mean think about it:

If snake dies that would mean a weapon of mass destruction capable of killing everything on the planet would be loose and up for grabes by any country.

Naturally whoever could have that weapon would have the most power and if used improperly kill everyone

I would rather kill a few thousands of people in order to save all of them.

Then save a thousand that would possibly later on get killed by nuclear weapons anyway

soo it would make sense.

Curiously I don't ever remember hearing this conversation in MGS. Any idea when it occurs?

As for your question, yes I would destroy the Shadow Moses facility to prevent a launch by the rogue Metal Gear. What is a few hundred lives compared to the millions under threat from Metal Gear?

Yeah, I mean Jim Houseman wanted to bomb it with B52 bombers and cover the whole thing up saying"One of the terroists accidentally blew up a war head". so it seems they already thought of the idea of blowing up Shadow Moses.

B2 bombers actually, but yeah, exactly right. Snake was their only hope. If he had died, the entire world would have been under threat of nuclear holocaust.

As horrible as it sounds, and with my country's continued survival in jeopardy, a nuclear counterstrike would have been their only alternative.

But if my memory serves me correctly (I could be wrong, but I don't remember for sure), the USS Discovery was an attack sub, not a boomer (ballistic missile submarine), and so wouldn't have been capable of initiating an attack like that itself.

The Discovery was an Ohio class submarine, so he would have been able to follow through on the threat. Unless my off hand knowledge of nuclear submarines is off.

Ohio is the class it belongs to, yeah. And I'm looking at its entry in a pocketbook called "Submarines of the World".

Armament: 24 Trident C4 missiles, four 21 inch torpedo tubes.

Yeah, the ship would no doubt have had the ability to initiate a nuclear strike on the base.

I stand corrected.
