Jeeeeeeesus.... I'm guessing no-one who posted here is British or if they are they have no pride in their armed forces! The SA-80 (which isn't as f****d up as it was in the 1980's) is an amazing assault rifle. I train with it weekly and it hasn't failed me ONCE. Have to say if i was given the choice I'd take an SA-80 over the AK-47 or AK-74 daily but if i was presented with an AKM then yah I'd probably take the AKM.
I've got a buddy in the Marine Corps who's trained with the L85A2 in the past, and he tells me it's crap compared to an M4.

M4 definitely, that's something I'd want to go into combat with...
But the SCAR just seems so attractive to me...

The AK-47. This gun is durable in the cold, deasert, anywhere. It is probobly one of the more cheaper guns to make. Its easy to clean. It also has good power and range. This gun without a doubt has killed more people on this earth than any other gun because it is so widespread and easy use. Alot of the Ak derivitives are also decent. So yeah. Ak ftw. I would take a Ak over any M16 or M4 any day.
i gotta agree with that my dad was in the army and also admits its the best weapon he has fired

The L85A2 is different. Looks the same, different functions.

My buddy referred to it as an L85A2, and every article I've seen and read on it says both are the same thing. My bad.

The M14 technically classifies as a battle rifle.

You commented on my referring to an M14, but ignored someone's remark on the M82 as an assault rifle?

The SCAR is one of my fav's i don't know how well it performs in real life since I never had a chance to fire it but it just seems so damn badass, only really seen it in action in games and it always seems to be abit above the rest.

I would take an AK-108 into battle with me:

The AK-107 and AK-108 are variants of the AK-101 series. The difference from the AK-101 series is that the 107 and 108 have BARS (Balanced Automatic Recoil System), based on the AL-7. As the projectile is ejected from the muzzle, the gas that flows into the main gas chamber moves toward the piston that drives the bolt. This occurs while another portion of the same gas moves through its own cylinder to a piston that moves in the opposite direction, towards the muzzle. This "double recoil" decreases recoil and increases accuracy in full auto mode. The 107 and the 108 are different in that the 107 uses a 5.45x39mm M74 cartridge while the 108 uses a 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. Like the rest of the 101 series these newer AKs use synthetic materials such as black fiberglass-reinforced polyamide for the pistol grip and heat shield. This change of material is more cost efficient and much stronger than the original AK-47 wood furnishings.

There's two kinds of people in this world, my friend...
Okay, we have a lot of assault rifles to choose with, but wich one is the best sniper rifle? I'm going to guess the brittish AWP with the bolt-action or the Russian Dragunov SVD which is semi-automatic...The Dragunov seems to top the AWP just a little bit, with it's semi-automatic action...It's got to be the first sniper rifle I've seen wich is semi-automatic, and it was manufactured in the 60's by the Soviet Union. (Damn those cunning Soviet scientists!) And that was something new in the 60's, sniper rifles with that kind of action, dont need the bolt-action anymore.Well, that's my opinion. What do you think?

P.S. Since we have a topic on rifles it's unnecessary to start another one just about snipers rifles...

There's no way I'd go with an AK, they're relatively inaccurate when automatic fire is used, the wooden hardware reacts badly when exposed to moisture for long periods of time, the Russian 7.62x39mm is just terrible compared to the NATO 5.56x45mm, bigger recoil with the Russian rounds which means it takes more getting used to, not to mention the fact that it's 2kg heavier than the M4.

I'd go with the Israeli TAR21, it's small, relatively light, of a fairly modern design, uses the same NATO rounds as the M16 and M4, newer models have a built in bipod, the fire mode selector can be easily used by left or right handed shooters, also it has ejection ports on both the left and right sides of the gun, thus making it completely ambidextrous. It's completely waterproof, has a built in laser sight, and it can be fitted with about a million different add ons. This gun is pure gangster.

I probably didn't see it. I skimmed over the largest part of the earlier posts, just noting specific ones that caught my eye.

No, the Barret M82's technical classification would be SASR, or Special Application Sniper Rifle. It's a range rifle used in long-range antipersonnel or hard target interdiction.

Edit: Okay, went back and looked it over: He (or she, I don't know) actually didn't refer to the 82 as any specific type. He/she just said it was a good weapon, which I agree on. It's among one of the best big bores out there.

2nd Edit: Fixed a typo.
