I personally never saw what there was to hate about Raiden. I think he is a very well-developed character and I think we were shown the true wisdom of Solid Snake by seeing him through the eyes of another soldier. Raiden has an interesting backstory with Solidus and has a much greater mystery to his past then snake does. I may also get flammed for this, but if you really analyze the situation, I might go so far as to say Raiden is a better soldier then Snake (in terms of sheer skill). Sure, Snake had a better head on his shoulders and had more of a motive for fighting, but as far as skills go, Raiden takes the cake. In MGS 2, Raiden takes down Vamp on more than one occasion, whereas Snake got his arm sliced up and got thrown into a wall like a ragdoll. Raiden also survived his fight with Fortune. Granted Snake did too, but he obviously slipped up and got himself captured. Raiden has proven he can handle more metal gear's at once then we've ever seen Snake stand up to, and he proved he is capable of killing one of the Les Enfants Terribles, as Snake did in MGS 1. There is no task Snake has done that Raiden can't outdo, or at least complete on par with Snake. I think if Raiden had began his mission in MGS 2 as mature and intelligent as Snake helped him become by the end of the game, I think Raiden could be used as a Big Boss model for a set of his own clones. |

I don't think anyone is denying Raiden's skill as a soldier, just the fact that he's so damn girly. |

Well Raiden is a cool character and all, but he still is somewhat of a rookie, yeah he survived Fortune's battle because Vamp came and he shot him in the forehead, Snake on the other had must have been captured because there was nobody that could distract Fortune and Fortune hated Snake so she probably fault harder to get him caught. The only reason Snake didn't kill Vamp was because he escaped. Raiden had to defeat Vamp or he might die and he had to try to save Emma. Yea he has some skill but he isn't as good as Snake, and is not even comparible with Big Boss. |

Maybe the Big Boss thing I mentioned came off wrong. I wasn't trying to say Raiden is as good as BB, I meant that if the government ever wanted to have a "Les Enfants Terribles 2" with a different set of clones, then Raiden would be the go-to guy to make the clones from. |

Em, no. People just hated the fact that this for some overly feminine character got the main spotlight instead of Snake. he has personality, he has skills, he has Snake's recognition but he isn't Solid Snake, and that's what really bothered most of MGS fans still warm from MGS1 events. I personally am a huge fan of his, since the beginnings of MGS2. I think he is a great character and well worthy of the attention he got. |

Sure he's a good soldier, sure he had character and he had a good voice actor. None of these came into effect early enough in the game for me to notice it when I first played MGS 2. Red Queen pretty much summed up why I disliked Raiden: People just hated the fact that this for some overly feminine character got the main spotlight instead of Snake. He has personality, he has skills, he has Snake's recognition but he isn't Solid Snake, and that's what really bothered most of MGS fans still warm from MGS1 events.. |

I didn't hate Raiden,I had just got bored of the traditional hero of japanese computer games(effeminate male newbie) at that time,so I ended up liking Solidus more. The funny thing about Raiden, is that he was created to make the metal gear solid series more popular.... |

more popular among female players cause alot of them didn't want to play as "some old guy" or something along those lines mgs2 was the 1st mgs i played so it didn't really matter much to me,i was a bit confused as to why i wasn't playing as snake, but i liked him though, especially his hair :$ |

Might have been a bit harsh with that lol But Its not that Raiden was feminine that pissed me off, it's the fact that he seemed so confused about EVERYTHING (although his responses gave me and my friends some laughs (but not as many as 'A surveillance camera?!')) and his weird movements (said it before in another post, backflipping is not an effective way to get over a railing) But as a soldier, Raiden can more than hold his own and can be pretty badass when needed Peace out |

no way is Raiden a better soldier than Solid Snake.he,s got skill but he wouldn,t stand a chance against Snake. |

Geez, I didn't know people hated him THAT much ...I thought they only disliked him, but I didn't know people wished that they could've killed him...At least he's great in MGS4, he should be given credit for that! And try to show him a little respect...After all, he is a MGS-character, and he should not be hated... Edited by The Protagonist, Jun 28 2008, 01:26 AM.

Hm, well I for one did like, let alone approve of, Raiden the first time I played Sons of Liberty. I thought he was a cool character and perhaps more down to earth than Snake. It was fun to see how Raiden reacted to the crazy Metal Gear universe and encountering Snake was just plain cool. He was a bit of a wimp when it came to girlfriend troubles but hey, he's been a war torn soldier since he was a kid. Thats gotta screw you up somewhere. And it provided comic relief. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say he was more skilled than Solid Snake. At the time, he didn't have as much experience as Snake and his mental state didn't seem to be anywhere near as hardened as Snake's. His fight with Fortune was interrupted and Vamp simply got the jump on Snake first. In MGS2, Snake was Raiden's mentor, and for good reason. As for the present, I'm not sure I could guarantee a win for Snake if those two were to go head to head...nor would I put my money on it. |

Raiden is amazing. He really is. Sure, he's a bit overly dramatic at times, but we can live with that. You've got to give him credit where credit is due, though. How many people do you know that could have Spoiler: click to toggle
