Then hope you can understand my defensive state. I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm just defending my own opinion, which doesn't fall in favor of liking Raiden. Like I've said before, I'm not downsizing anyone for being a Raiden fan. I'm just getting aggitated that some of said Raiden fans are downsizing me for not being a Raiden fan. And they seem to refuse the fact that it's his personality, not his girly appearance (which I never noticed until I read the remarks made by Kojima-san about it in an interview, which was after about 14 playthroughs of the game), that I dislike. |

I have to agree with Sonny. All my friends got to play MGS2 before me and all told me he's so girlie and gay etc. So i was obviously towards 1 side when i played it. And he was SOOOOO annoying. His stupid comments, his childishness, and more. But as the game went on we learned more about him. He wasn't so whiny anymore and really began to show his strength, mentally and physically. He won me over when he took on down the Metal Gears... that wasn't easy. He has such an interesting story, and it was great to see Snake from a different perspective. I'm sick of hearing now "he's so badass", "he rocks", "he's so cool". I'm glad he returned to the end of the series but still can't make up my mind up about whether he should have been changed to a cyborg ninja or not. I think it could have been avoided, and perhaps it would have satisfied the real Raiden fans more. Who knows what would have been best. But i still think that Spoiler: click to toggle It was perfect. It was his ending.As for the argument, he isn't boring and neither are the characters around him. He was a great addition to the series, just what it needed. But some of the things i've heard from the people defending and some of the people criticising Raiden are fanboyish, and plain stupid. Some people like him, some people don't. It's called an opinion. |

My first play-through of MGS2, I absolutely hated Raiden as with most of you. However, as my subsequent play-throughs increased, I liked Raiden more and more. I finally understood Kojima's point, on making the character be a very green rookie. |

Raiden was deliberately designed to have somewhat of an androgynous appearance. Fans grew to love Solid Snake and "bonded" with the character while playing through the first of the Solid series. Raiden was a bit alienating to these people at first, naturally. Interestingly enough, I think my appreciation of Solid Snake increased by looking through Raiden's eyes. He was created to allow players to see Snake in a different light.
He wasn't really a green rookie, though. He had fought in many conflicts, namely the Liberian Civil War under Solidus' command as a child. As he told Rosemary, "I think I held my first AK when I was 7 years old" or something like that. Though at times he seemed to behave like a rookie would, I thought. Wow there is a lot to go through with this post. But without reading every page for right now I'll say that I didn't mind playing as Raiden. Sure I would have rather played as Snake but everyone feels that on some degree ( grated some are more vocal about it  ).I think he was created so different, so that you knew they were two totally different characters. They wanted Raiden's voice to sound like he didn't have as much combat experience as Snake ( a little tip of the hat to Snake ) but still a confident soldier. It's just makes for good story-telling! IMO |

Sure, Raiden was a little annoying at first and to many people. But he was meant to be more effeminate for the female audience who didn't just want to play as "some old man." Any person would understand that it's impossible to please everyone. He did face some terrible stuff and came out of it alive so I give him props for that. He could have not let his ignorance show through so much, but in the end he really showed how much he grew. He's definitely a love him or hate him character. There's no in between with him and that's partially why I partially liked him. Plus that final battle with Solidus was pretty awesome and he conquered at the end everything he lacked in the beginning. One of the best developed characters in the series, straight up. |

Snake would Still kick his ass...I do not hate him like alot...but Snake would STILL kick his ass.Hands down, All my money riding on it. And are you guys fucking kidding me on the multiple metal gears thing? Those Rays were apparently built like pieces of shit....They took no where near the amount of damage that the REX model liquid Utilized did...at least to me it seemed that way...Plus ...haha (im being a smartass here, and maybe a lil serious) but Didnt we See a Broken down Rex destroy a brand New Ray Recently? So you're saying that anyone could have dealt with those MG RAYs? And REX wasn't broken down, it's radome was broken and had no rail gun, but still had it's missiles, it's gun and it's brilliant laser. It was an (almost) even fight as RAY was designed for water, not land, and also RAY came out of the water into a freezing cold place; it may have felt a bit rusty as some of the water may have frozen in awkward places, but the ones Raiden fought were designed for land. |

Alas, the topics I have seen about this are countless. Raiden is a pussy, no denying that, but he is a great character and soldier none the less, he makes Snake look better in contrast and he still skilled as a soldier. And his character only gets better. |
