David Hayter wants to write the MGS movie but needs our help neogaf.com — In a posting on his IMDB page, Hayter urged the fans to email Matt Tolmach at Sony Pictures and convince him that they want Hayter to write the screenplay. This may be our only chance to make sure the Metal Gear Solid movie has any chance of actually being good. The email address is matt_tolmach@spe.sony.com http://digg.com/gaming_news/David_Hayter_wants_to_write_the_MGS_movie_but_needs_our_help Edit- I just wrote and sent my email. This is what I wrote As you already know, David Hayter has been the voice of the main protagonist of the Metal Gear Solid series for almost ten years. He's been a vital part of Metal Gear when it decided to venture in a heavy, movie esque approach. If you have seen the new entry in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4, you will know what I'm getting at. Hayter was written screenplays for Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. The largest grossing film being X-Men 2. It grossed $214,948,780 in the box offices in the United States. He's very able to write the screenplay. Fans of the series know who David Hayter is. The fans will be the biggest consumer base for this movie. If the fans know Hayter has signed on, they know your company is taking this movie seriously and will be excited before even a trailer or the cast is announced. I know the director, Kurt Wimmer, has written the script for two of the three movies he's directed. I have seen the two movies he wrote scripts for. Equilibrium was very entertaining, but Ultraviolet was horrible. Giving that track record, it would be better to have him get the source material from a script written by Hayter and the video games. Not only has Hayter voiced Solid Snake, he plays the Metal Gear Solid series. Hayter has a good understanding on the story and characters. He would be able to give the movie the Metal Gear vibe into the film before the Wimmer decides to go into production. Also, Hayter knows what is holding back Metal Gear Solid into becoming a movie and will take that into consideration. I know I'm just one person, but many people agree with me here. At the very least, I hope you will read this email. Edited by KingFrost, Jun 29 2008, 06:23 PM.

I don't see how having David Hayter write the script would make it good, sure he's a good writer, but there are hundreds of other good writers out there. |

The way I see it is at least having him on the project will project a good image to the fans (well, me at least) and that way if they want to do something new, he could make sure it remains faithful to the source. |

True, actually, I didn't really think of that, sorry. He's a good writer, and undoubtedly, if he writes it then at least it will be faithful, I just think it's too early to write off - no pun intended - every other writer. But yeah good point. |

Yeah, Hayter really knows the MGS series and fans know this also, he would be able to write a great script that combines the drama and the action. |

David Hayter really isn't given enough credit as a writer. Everyone knows him as the voice of Solid Snake, and nothing more, but his writing skill is phenomenal. I think I'll sign the petition to get him to write the MGS movie. |

"Everything has its beginning. But it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that - in chaos. The world is born - from zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes two, two becomes 10, 10 becomes 100. Taking it all back to one solves nothing. So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to 100 again." - Spoiler: click to toggle Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots[/big]

i signed the petition and write an email. David not only knows the MGS saga very well, but he knows the fans too. He surfs the internet and conversates with the fans regularly. He's known for having an IMDB account and a youtube account where he actually talks to the members who ask him questions. Him writing it will insure that the movie has a good story. That's the first step in making this movie great. |

On IMDB he is already the announced screenwriter: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808372/ So I'm guessing he got the part. |

yeah, IMDB can be edited by the users. Someone could have heard early on and jumped the gun by posting it on there. |

I don't think we should even be thinking about the MGS movie. It's not happening anytime soon. And in my opinion, Kojima is MUCH much better than Hayter. |

comingsoon.net has MGS set up for a 2009/2010 release. That does seem a bit short considering that the screenplay hasn't even been written. But Kojima has confirmed that he is working on the project. |
