Loss of perception?; Raiden's malfunctioning nanomachines

Was anyone else more than a bit weirded out by the crazy things that kept happening to Raiden inside Arsenal Gear? I understand his nanomachines were malfunctioning, and that nearly all of his support team was a computer simulation at this point, but it was still a bit creepy. The scene that still sticks out in my mind is a codec transmission in which Col. Campbell has no face, and he's telling the player to put down the controller, turn off the game, and walk away. I remember the first time I got there. I almost listened to him, but then the game moved on as I was about to hit the power button. It was very reminiscent of the Psycho Mantis incident in MGS1. Anyone else freaked out by that whole section of the game, or no?

It was just kinda freaking me out. It was the middle of the night, and I was overtired, but I was so far in that I wasn't going to stop until I had beaten the game. That was signifcantly slowed down by the fact that I was playing on Extreme and I had to fight 12 Rays at once lol.

Don't even think about using auto-fire, or I'll know.

I loved that part. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it was my favorite part from the whole MGS2. :D

It was good, though I would have to say honestly that I hated getting those random codec calls every third step. I did like the giant random sword battle though, when it says you died and yet the fight is still going on in a little window in the corner of the screen.

Aaaaaah! Grandma put your clothes back on!

That just irritated me. I was so confused the first time but then saw what was going on. I like to shoot Snake during that battle.

I remember the first time it happened to me. I was staring at the screen for a moment thinking to myself, "How did I die? I was at full health half a second ago and I wasn't even hit!" Then I looked up, and kept going, finding that in that moment of annoyance at a random death, I had lost half my health.

Fun, confusing, ingenious. There were times I thought I had broken my PS2. I was really upset. Then I realised it was a part of the game. It was late okay?!

Hah, I actually turned off my PS2, expecting some sort of bonus or powerup. Oh, how disappointed I was....

XD I played the XBox version, so I was busy slamming the right D-stick in every direction trying to make myself un-die until I noticed I was still alive.

I have to say it really freaked me out the first time. It was late too and me and my brother didnt understand what was happening in the story. It freaked me out so much i thought this kind of mindf*ck was worse than the creepiness of Silent Hill games, which we used to play a lot by that time.

Practice makes perfect sense.

I loved that part, but it scared the shit out of me.
I had been playing for about 3 hours straight, i was very tired and it was about 10.30 p.m. I had no lamp or anything in my room so the only light was coming from the TV.
Suddenly i look up at the enemies who look like monsters (they really did to me) and then Campbell calls me with his skull all i can see, telling me to turn off the game and the system. I was lost, so i turned it off, and went to bed! I couldn't sleep for ages!

Campbell: We've got a serious situation here. Only you can get us out of it.
Solid Snake: You're not my commander anymore, and I don't have to take orders from you, or anyone else.
Campbell: You will take these orders... I know it.
