Does anyone have a preference between the PSX version of Metal Gear Solid and the ultra-rare PC version? Personally, I can't see the PC having an adequate control scheme for MGS without having some sort of gaming peripheral added, but I've also never played the PC version of the game. I didn't even know it existed until today, so I ordered it on eBay, and now I'm hoping it will be a suitable replacement for my PSX version which only plays up until the first cutscene ends. |

So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to 100 again." - Spoiler: click to toggle Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots[/big]

Never played the PC version, although a friend of mine has a copy of it. I'd have to get a peripheral controller to play it though, I wouldn't be able to stand playing a game like MGS with a keyboard and mouse. |

I can't even imagine the mouse/keyboard control layout. It must be so awkward. |

I had it on my laptop a while ago and mapped everthing onto the keyboard - was far from ideal. I played mgs2 on my pc with an xbox controller a while back and that seemed to work ok. There were some annoying little nags tho - like you couldn't release the aim button slowly to exit first person mode, you HAD to fire the weapon. Probs not a problem in mgs1 tho. |

Where did you find it? Was it a torrent, or the actual disc? I'm curious, because my PSX copy of MGS1 doesn't work anymore, and I was thinking of tracking down the PC version as an alternative. |

A few things to bear in mind, and to answer your queries... - You cannot beat the PSX version for originality; whilst it's a whole new experience on the PC, (and btw, I think there's a bit in it somewhere that doesn't work right...) and looks better, you can give it a full playthrough on the PC using the inputs that a PC has for a full experience. - If you want to be snazzy, get a PS to USB adaptor, (dirt cheap on eBay) and use your controller to play it on your PC. - Also, go to eBay to pick up an original PS copy of the game to relive the awesomeness of MGS1 on the console it was first made for. ![]() And as an added note, I have a fully sealed and brand new copy of MGS1 on PC in the original big box-sized package that PC games used to come in. |

I really like the PC version, but as Bellrim said, you need to seriously get the control configuration sorted, I never play it anymore since I wouldn't want to risk damaging the disc. It comes with all the VR missions by the way. |

I find that MGS is a LOT easier to play on the keyboard...don't know why. Ever play MGS4 on a keyboard as well? Opens up a whole new world of controls. But, I still prefer MGS on the psx a lot more, I've had to many problems with the PC. |

i prefered the PC version without a doubt. But back in the day when my old computer would run it with no problems. It was a lot faster and better graphics. The keyboard wasn't hard to master at all, but i did later buy a PC controller. Plus with PC you can take screenshots, use them as sigs/wallpapers, record video and sound. That's why i love PC games as opposed to console. |

Have you got MGS to work on a 'modern' PC? If so, teach me!

XP: Yes, and apparently Vista has some huge problems with it, so I won't comment on a definitive yes or no for Vista, mainly as I don't actually own any machine with the OS installed... even though I have a real copy knocking around.

PC version works fine and dandy for me. I'd imagine you can pick it up pretty cheap, and there's a demo version of the game as well if you search on google. |
