You're actually right there about Kojima, Entity...Do you remember that the story overview in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was set during a future with an economics and oilcrisis? Isn't that what we're facing now? Just look at the gasprice, it's up the roof! And I don't want to start talk about it, I might as well start to write a book about just that subject! But it's like Kojima can read the future...Next thing we now, it'll be like in MGS4:

Some things DO appear in real life, that's also in the MGS-universe, but a Metal Gear is something that can't be done, it's been discussed several times, and I think everyone agrees on that point...

Don't tread on me.

Mercenaries are a sort of a dirty little secret in wars, I think. I'm by no means an expert on geopolitical and military matters, but I'm pretty sure that their existence is much more thriving than the media lets us know. I'm interested to know how many PMCs are actually working in Iraq right now. Is something from the prologue scene of the last game really worthy of a spoiler tag? Somebody could gather as much as you stated from trailers.

I just didn't want to spoil it for the others who haven't played the game yet...

But several mercenaries are even in this moment deployed in Iraq. It's estimated that over 100,000 contractors are deployed in the Middle East, in this very moment...Strange how the media have kept that number of mercenaries in the shadow...

I don't think it would be much of a "spoiler" considering how quickly you figure that out. I appreciate your aim at being considerate and cautious in that matter, however. I don't feel a need to tag what I wrote, nonetheless. If a moderator thinks I should, I'd like them to let me know.

Very interesting, indeed. I was hoping somebody had some numbers to put out there on this matter, thanks.

Edit: Those 100,000 contractors weren't working in the whole Middle East....They are only deployed in Iraq, ALL of them....Think, a number that large, so many mercenaries, and they are only deployed in one single country....How many soldiers does the US have deployed in Iraq since the beginning of the war in 2003? Whatever the numbers of deployed soldiers in Iraq by the U.S military it's still way to many mercenaries deployed in Iraq. The U.S probably have like 300 or 400,000 in Iraq in this moment, but not sure of that moment...What's the real number, Entity, of U.S military soldiers deployed in Iraq?

Last I read it was in proximity of 144,000, but that is likely behind the times. I've gotta jet and do some work, but I'll try to look some more current numbers up later.

I do find it interesting that PMCs are seemingly kept hush hush by the media. I really dislike nationalism, but I also really dislike the idea of contract-based wars.

So basically The U.S has between 140 - 150,000 troops and the PMC's has 100,000 deployed there....My only question is: Where does the PMC's get these kind of large amount of money to have that large amount of mercenaries deployed in just one country, it's absurd...I wonder if that's where the taxmoney goes to...To the PMC's....

I do wonder who pays PMCs to deploy. People who have private business interests in countries of conflict, maybe?

Sierra Leone had alot of mercenaries deployed from the South African PMC called Executive Outcomes...They we're involved in two big moments, one of them was against the RUF, the guerilla that existed until last year, and in a battle against UNITA, an Angolan party. The mercenaries we're fighting on the behalf of the Angolan government, so it's possible that PMC's get's hired by governments that are in some sort of a national crisis, or when they need just military strenght against militas and guerillas...

But most of the PMC's are deployed in areas where there's lot of resources, mostly oil and diamond fields...Wonder why?

I have a feeling that PMC's are probably involved in conspiracy matters...Why would they else be deployed in areas where there are massive amounts of oil and diamonds?

I concur with your post. I'm not sure what else would be going on. It's very disturbing when you think about it.
