Thou shalt not blaspheme against the Box! seriously though, it's the cigar. It has no use in the game, the monkey mask at least stops dogs attacking you (although if they are you are doing something wrong) |

You can use the cigar to burn off leeches, though. By far the Monkey Mask - obtaining it is irrelevant to the game and like Helikaon said, if you can't take care of the dogs, you're doing something wrong. |

I would say the monkey mask because all the dogs in the game can be avoided ... besides I always play with the mode : game over when alert phase ... so I don't get attacked by dogs anyway. In the box you can hide in certain areas and its so classical MGS so its not useless at all. With the cigar like cobb said you can burn off leeches and you can also see in the dark areas of the cave, when you still don't have N.V.G. or the torch. |
