Hello fellow MGSF members. I have a bit of a problem. I've got a PS3 and play it regularly, however there is one thing that really annoys me. I can play games on it without any problem, but for some reason whenever I try to watch a blu-ray video disc the screen goes completely black&white and the sound is slightly fuzzy (obviously, that's not a good thing). I have a fairly old TV (non-HD) and the only time I've ever seen this in the past was on certain PS2 games (such as Timesplitters 3) when I tried them on 60hz rather than 50hz. I love MGS4 and have (somehow) resisted the urge to watch the "making of" disc that I got with the LE, but I'm very ill at the moment and am struggling to find things to take up time that won't make tired. I have looked on the "settings" bit of my PS3, but didn't find anything to help. Basically my question is this: "Is there anyway to change the settings on my PS3 so that I can watch my blu-rays properly without having to buy a new T.V?" EDIT: I'm pretty sure I accidentaly put this in the wrong section. Sorry. Please move it to the appopriate place ![]() EDIT2: Thanks for moving it. Sorry again

Nah, I think here is alright dude. ![]() Generally, this issue does sound a bit suspect though - if you can play games alright but not Blurays... hmm. What video settings is your system currently configured to, that enable you to play games without problems? |

Pretty sure it's the default settings. I don't change things unless there's a problem and it was fine from the moment I set it all up. |

So you don't touch the settings, you just insert a Bluray and it messes up, right? Urgh - very suspicious. I think it might have something to do with the resolution change between playing games and watching Blurays - the movies are at a set size (720/1080) whereas I think games can vary, if you check the range of resolution sizes that the options for the display has. Besides playing around with that perhaps, or just trying to fill us in better... I think a trip to the official forums might do the job. But leave this one open anyway and wait as more people read it and can hopefully help you with this, better than I can! |

Yeah, I've not changed anything and it's fine until I start watching a blu-ray. It's also fine as soon as I stop watching it. Give me a minute, I'll post up my current settings and see if you notice anything. If not, I'll check the official forum. EDIT: Here's my current "BD/DVD" settings and "Display" settings (well, those that I don't already understand at least). None of the others are likely to affect it right? BD/DVD: Cinema Conversion - Automatic (choices: automatic, video) BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI) - Automatic (choices: automatic, RGB, Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr) BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) - Automatic (choices: Automatic, off, on) Display: Video Output Settings - AV MULTI / SCART, RGB, Standard (PAL) RGB Full Range (HDMI) - Limited Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) - Off Edited by G.J.V., Jul 3 2008, 06:40:34 PM.

I have the exact same problem as you. I got Casino Royale on Blu Ray a long time ago, and whenever I try to watch it, it goes black and white. I just think maybe a Blu Ray Movie can't go on a NOT-HD TV? |
