Yes after playing the Metal Gear series countless times I have a built in notion that games should have good, complex, and heartfelt storylines. I like most types of games, excluding sports. Any ideas? ^_^

Haha.

I agree though.

You should try Kingdom Hearts I and II as well. Both of them have a amazing story.

You could try Assassins Creed as well, it has quite a good story in overall. Maybe I can come up with more later.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air. Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light. My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night. There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell, and I was thinking to myself, ’this could be heaven or this could be hell’. Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way. There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say...

Thank you! I may try Kingdom Hearts. I have Final Fantasys VII, VIII, and XII and I also have the closely related Chrono Cross so maybe after I buy a PS3/MGS4 and finish that I will play some good old squaresoft games.

Castlevania, Panzer Dragoon, God Of War, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy V, VIII, IX, and X, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Legacy Of Kain, Beyond Good And Evil, Bioshock (one of the few good stories on 360, actually), Phantasy Star, Xenosaga, Shenmue, Max Payne, Viewtiful Joe.

To name a few.

One word: BioShock.

Outside of the MGS series BioShock is without a doubt the greatest story within any game I've ever played. It's incredibly deep, and it just plain kicks ass. My favorite game on the 360, bar none.

Story wise, you simply cannot beat the Legacy of Kain series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raziel_%28Legacy_of_Kain%29

Not even FF games can compare to the LoK's story.

To Live is to Suffer.

my friend is a huge fan, so much so that he brought the ps1 game over and played it as I watched, admittedly the cutscene are quite damn ncie for a ps1 game.

Prince of Persia has a pretty damn solid story line, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Assassin's creed was pretty damn nice too.

God of War, might be some brutal shit but I love the Greek mythology stuff.

Silent hill 2 - such a mind fuck man, the voice overs are pretty bad sometimes but the story is so damn captivating.
But to survive is to find meaning in the suffering.

Well for me, free space (1 amd 2) just great how they let the war evolve and the final battle of the first game against the super destroyer lucifer is just awesome.
Deus ex really fill with political thinking and mass behavior, can wait for part 3.
Morrowind has a extence back gorund that really maide the main quest come to life.
KOTOR 1 & 2, I know the first one is the best in terms of gameplay and inovation, but the second for me has a better story and the idea that in the you are not jedi or sith makes the posibilities for a continuation of the plot really wide.
Today thuesday 24 if june my MGS4 arraived.

Definitely. Morrowind's main plot can be very slow moving at times, but it's unique and when the pace picks up a bit it becomes very interesting and compelling to play through. Plus the TES series has a lot of lore behind it, and Morrowind is the most lore-filled in the series as well as it being the most unique. Shame Oblivion didn't follow that by having such a generic and uninteresting main quest and very little focus on lore.

I've never played it, but I did read a plot analysis of Silent Hill 2 - I wanted to know more about it but kept reading on... heh. Anyway, that was a bit of a mindfuck. If you haven't played through it already, I'd recommend it to you.

My biggest recommendation is Planescape: Torment. Look at any review for it and you'll see its storyline being praised and they're damn right about that.

Don't even think about using auto-fire, or I'll know.

Games with great stories? To me, "Neverwinter Nights 2" had a wonderful story. Its basis plot was simple and stereotyped, but the wonderful dialogues and the characters development made it one of the best narrative experiences I've ever had on a videogame.
I also liked the plot of the old Final Fantasy 7, but later installments in the series totally spoiled it for me. It nearly made me regret that I used to love the saga in the past.
Bioshock, too, was very nice. The only time I played a FPS with a good story!

Plain and simple, my favorite story outside of MGS. Its so deep, you feel compelled to find out more..

Also God of War and Devil May Cry are favorites of mine.. The kind of games I would buy just to find out what happens in the story..

I'm missing out.

I never played a single FF game in my life. I saw the gameplay, it looked interesting. FF 7 looks great.

Anyways, i suggest:
RESIDENT EVIL SERIES
HITMAN SERIES
