Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first "real" chance to play as Snake for ages. Sure there were other MGS games but this new sequel is a full blown MGS adventure. After the disappointment for me in Sons of Liberty (mincing about with Raiden for most of the game), this is what I've been waiting for. Snake Eater was cool, playing as Big Boss was awesome, and even though it sounded like Solid Snake, we all knew it wasn't him. Even though I love the Metal Gear games, I hope this fourth installment is the last we see of the Metal Gear universe. It is a fitting end and I don't think Kojima (or anyone else) could beat the amazing games we've seen for the last 20 odd years. Could be interesting to see someone elses vision of the Metal Gear universe though. |

Solid Snake was also a role model for me when I was younger, and there was just that aura about him I liked. Honestly, I think Big Boss' more human side makes him more of an ass. As everyone said, in MGS3 he seemed kinder and not as cold as Solid Snake, but after words he ends up Spoiler: click to toggle , and leads Snake into traps and what not during MG. His humanity is what was his downfall, and thats why I like Solid Snake much more.

I see we all agree about how we envision the characters of Big Boss and Solid Snake, and prefering one over another is then just a matter of subtle personal tastes. I also see no one dared to say that Raiden was better than the Snakes. XD |

Well as far as Raiden goes, he is probably the most human out of all of them (considering he is a retard in MGS2), but becomes a hard ass in MGS4. Major character change, but for the better I think. Still nowhere near as cool as the Snakes, I don't care much for Raiden. |

He's not a retard, he's a pretty boy who's not been informed :P. Nah I love Raiden and Snake equally. I think they play very well of each other, and have incredibly important roles within the story, which of course wouldn't work without one or the other. I relished the chance to play as Raiden as he was prettier, and it showed just HOW kickass Snake really was. Both are utterly amazing. |

I consider Snake and Big Boss in the same catergory. Its just that Solid Snake is more noticable he's a video game Legend. always will be. |

I have admittedly not played Metal Gear Solid since I was ten. But, all of seven years old playing MGS for the first time, I just saw Snake as the most 'human' character I've ever played with his own defying strengths a weaknesses. (Even as a little kid, I thought he was the most emotionally warped protagonists ever...and I was fascinated by it.) |

I think for a lot of people, it's because they played as Snake when they were so much younger and being able to go through the story of a war hero. |
