OK, so I have shit loads of stuff on my laptop - from coursework to music to programs and so on and I am really worried about losing it so I want to clone everything on my laptop. So, how do I do it? Edited by Roy Campbell, Jun 28 2008, 08:08 PM.

The way I did it when I went from Laptop to Mac was to buy an External HDD and then transfer the My Documents folder and any other folders I needed to keep. Im sure theres an easier way but thats how I did it |

Make backups. Whether it's a CD, or as mic said an external drive. Both are pretty standard ways of doing it

I also used an external harddrive. It's a great practical way of doing it. Plus it gives you the added bonus of being able to take your stuff easily with you if you want too. |

Get an external hard-drive, cheapest and most secure and quickest way of getting it done. |

There are two ways in which you can backup/clone your laptop's HDD: - As everyone has stated; get an external hard drive/pen drive/CDs/DVDs and copy/backup all the relevant files and folders to it, then copy them back over to your other machine or whatever. - ... Or the true definition of computer disk cloning which is where you create an image of the entire hard disk drive in a computer, using a piece of software. Then using this software, you can copy back the entire image to a similar hard drive and boot back into it... this is the literal method of cloning a drive. Let us know what you have in mind, or need any further clarification.

Well I always made back ups every now and then a few times a year. Not on any specific date or anything. But they were in mp3 files or something. I don't really remember It's been a while sense I have done it. Tho I am on a mac so I'm not so worried. If i wasn't on a mac I would probly be doing back ups every few months. So yeah back up disks. Then if something goes messed up wipe everything. You might loose some current stuff and that be a bitch right but you wouldn't loose years worth of stuff. Also thanx for reminding me I should do this myself soon. |
