In a brief epilogue, Otacon and Snake discuss the decoding of the virus disc, which contains the personal data on all twelve members of the Wisemen's Committee (the Patriots' high council). It is revealed on this disc that one of the members of the committee was a major sponsor of Philanthropy. Another shocking revelation found on the disc indicates that not only are all twelve members of the Wisemen's Committee dead, but have been dead for approximately 100 years. I copied this from wikipedia. Who is Philanthopy's major sponser? Or does it just mean that a bit of the Philosophers Legacy was given to them? |

Apparently this was supposed to be an inside joke,as the "major sponsor" was supposed to be Hideo,as hes put so much into the MGS franchise. This is just what I've read online though,as I too asked myself the same question after I beat 2. I think its one of Hideos things that's just not meant to have an answer. |

My theory is it's Ocelot. Ocelot was the son of the Boss. The Boss was the daughter of one the original founding members of the Philosophers. Even though, it's never said that Ocelot finds out that he was the son of the Boss. I'm sure Big Boss who could put the two and two together eventually told him. Maybe we will find out in the rumor prequel of MGS5. So Ocelot helped Snake's and Otacon. If you remember Liquid possessing Ocelot in MGS2 says that he leaked the information to them about Arsernal Gear. Either way it was Ocelot or Liquid Ocelot. |

I don't think it Ocelot, neither a joke. The phonecall has been used for some sort of cliffhanger everytime, for the players to anticipate the next game, in my opinion. I haven't got a clue, but I could've been (warning: MGS4 spoilers) Spoiler: click to toggle

I don't think it was ever revealed who was really funding Philanthropy. Obviously, to get them sanctioned by the UN, the sponsor had to have some serious political connections. In my opinion, it had to have been Zero. He was the only one left with enough of the connections needed to fully fund Philanthropy AND get them to be recognized/sanctioned by the United Nations. |

"Everything has its beginning. But it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that - in chaos. The world is born - from zero. The moment zero becomes one is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes two, two becomes 10, 10 becomes 100. Taking it all back to one solves nothing. So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to 100 again." - Spoiler: click to toggle Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots[/big]

If i remember correctly, the 12 names and contained information was about the original Wisemen Commite which is mentioned on MGS3 as the head of the Philosophers (the precursors of the Patriots, so to say) so then the information was not about the actual Patriots, but of the original Wisemen Commite on which Volgin's and The Boss's father belonged to. Remember they got the information of the disc? Well at the start off MGS4 Solid states that the disc they got at during the Plant was a "load of crap". Meaning that this was too screw with Snake & Otacons heads. |

I remember reading this somewhere, sorry i can't recall where. but apparently Nastasha donated a large amount of the profit from "In The Darkness of Shadow Moses" to Philanthropy. |
