PS3: Horizontal or Vertical?; How do you keep it?

Little room for confusion here:

- Do you have your PS3 positioned horizontally or vertically?
- Any particular reason?
- Is one better than the other?

Mine is horizontal. Two years ago my PS2, which was built in in vertical position between books in my shelf, started making clicking-noises. Moved it to horizontal and it went back to normal. Didn't want to run a risk with the PS3, so: horizontal.

In the week or so I've had my ps3,I've kept it horizontal.I hear that when its vertical it makes more sound which would bug the crap out of me.

Vertical, so I can fit it next to my TV instead of having it horizontal on the floor.

I don't see why everyone moans about Lampard. He is just as good as Gerrard or Carrick (and most certainly Barry). He has an awesome scoring record and sets up a hell of a lot of goals. He wouldn't be playing for Chelsea if he wasn't good. I don't think the best managers in the world would all happen to be incorrect about him.

I have mine horizontal. When I had my PS2 vertical it fell over and broke. I don't want that to happen again.

Horizontal, fits nicely on top my Sky Digital box. Never seen the addiction with vertical myself

Horizontal, I have the room to put it down horizontal, why bother doing it Vertical? Also I've heard(Don't know if it's true) that for certain reasons it's better to have it horizontal.

Out and about.

Horizontal always - seems better for the vents that way too, and it just generally fits in better with everything else in this position.

Vertical, because when it's horizontal it makes noise that could make a space shuttle cry. Plus it looks better.

I have all my consoles horizontal (except for my wii because that doesn't blow up if you leave it on for more than 15 minutes).

There was a thread like this a little while back and someone posted a link to some infrared images which show that putting consoles horizontally reduces heat generated thus reducing chances of it overheating. When I was playing Lost Odyssey a few months back my Xbox 360 refused to work vertically so I had no choice but to lay it flat.

Vertical. Heat rises so let the vent do its job. Since I've kept it vertical the fan never kicked on once.

I remember reading that topic.

I actually made a thread just like this one a few months back.

I always have my 360 and PS3 both horizontal. It just feels safer and fits in it's space better. My PS2 was always horizontal as well. I've never had any problems with any of my systems so it doesn't seem to be a bad idea.

erm.. you think keeping your PS2 in a confined space might've had something to do with that? in a book shelf between books it wouldn't have had any space to breathe.

either way i do both, always on the top open surface though where air can get to it better.

I positioned it at the utmost left side, which was open. (Cheap-ass IKEA-bookshelf.) There was always enough space at the back of the console though, where the fan is. But you could be right.

Vertical.

And the clicking noises, was your hub, which was inconsistently spinning the disc, hence why returning to a horizontal position would fix it.

Horizontal.

For reasons already mentioned here, my PS2 was vertical for a time and it fell over. I've gone through at least 3 PS2s, in my time, and the latest one I have has been barely working for the last few years... still hasn't bit the dust, though.

The biggest reason I have it horizontal is because it fits better into the "entertainment center" i'm using. Might post pics, later... meh.

Mine is vertical. It fits better with the entertainment center I have that way. I have a third party fan installed that works really well and isn't too loud. Even though I don't think it's a necessity, I may get a blue LED stand, mostly for the look. I'm not too concerned about it falling over.

That sucks, but the PS3 is considerably more well balanced in the vertical position than its predecessor. I don't believe a PS2 is safe vertically without some sort of stand.

Well i personally prefer mine horizontal as it is much quieter and for the fact their is no Vents so it gets no dust, As were putting it vertically does.

I'm pretty sure horizontal is the healthier way. It's the way I have it.
