REJECT FALSE ICONS

i just bought the javelin, and have no clue how to use it, i tried to shoot a gekko with it(thats why i bought it, to kills gekkos) and instead of hitting it, it went half way and shot up in the air. okay. so i check the weapon screen to see if theres any special conditions, and it says theres aftertouch with the right stick, but still, after trying to manipulate it after launch, all it does is go roughly 10 feet and shooot up in the air.
could somebody enlighten me as to what im doing wrong?

I'm pretty sure the Gekkos have a Missile Deflection Device. Try shooting any other type of missile, you will see what I mean. I'm pretty sure thats the case.

You can hit them if they don't see you though. I think.

The javelin is an anti vehicle missile weapon, they way it works is to lock onto a target and fire up to about 150 feet in the air then land down onto the weaker top of vehicles and armour, so going up is how it works, but it should come back down :D

Isn't that how a javelin works? You shoot it, it goes in the air, and then it comes down on top of the enemy. Thats how they work in real life at least.

Yes thats how it works in real life, however in MGS4 it is simply a laser guided missile and it goes wherever you are aiming.

The Javelin in in real life operates similarly but differently. In reality, it's a fire-and-forget weapon, whereas in MGS4 it's manually-guided like the Nikita of previous games. It has both top-attack and direct-attack capabilities.
You can read more on it here: FGM-148 Javelin

As for the missile veering off in flight, I've had that happen with the LAW and the RPG, too, but only at the very end of Act 2 when I fire on that last Gekko.

Same here, happened with the RPG and other bazooka like weapons... I think it's a glitch?
It always happened to me when I was in act 4...taking down the Gekko inside the nuclear room when Mk.III is trying to open the door for 2 minutes.
Either a glitch or the game prevents you because it wants you to (not kill civillians in act 2 and for the realism of not firing rockets and stuff inside a room full of nukes), but it's far fetched imo...I've no idea.... :/

I know, but I'm still curious on why the missiles and rockets go apeshit.

The Gekko don't have a misile deflection thing. It's merely the way a missile launches. They go up, and then come back down, usually. And it could have something to do with the prevailing winds that are interfering with the projectiles flight path that seep through fromt he outside. If you're thinking it might come back down. It might hit the ceiling before that happens. The best way to use it...if -you're- on a higher level than the Gekko. If you can't get through it. Use the rail gun, as someone said before.

Well, I dont know where everyone gets off saying thats just how the Javelin works, it goes up then comes down. YES this IS how it works in REAL life, but in the GAME it just flies more or less at the point where your crosshairs lie. Seriously, try it. The missiles must fly up because of some kind of missile deflection device. If someone can prove otherwise please do. But know that you will be wrong :P JK

Look, I don't have problem killing the Gekko lol, I've done it over 5 playthroughs...
I'm just saying it's not supposed to work like that, not just the Javeline but the RPG as well.
When I use it in Middle-east it goes STRAIGHT at the truck I fire at...but at some spots against gekko ( for example the nuke room in Act 4 ) It goes forward then litterary (90 degrees in under 1 cm) it swings up and you DON'T see an explosion on the roof. And for your info, RPG don't swing 90 degrees in the air immediately...RPGs are rocket-propelled-grenades, they go straight.
As for the Javeline, well it may go up in REAL life, but not in MGS4, use it in middle-east, anywhere else, it goes a tad bit up, but you can still control it to your point easilly. It just doesn't work at the end of act 2 and in the nuke building of act 4. Try it yourself, and no my MGS copy ain't the problem, a lot of people are experiencing the same shit.
That's why I think it's a glitch.

all you need is the M82,one hit on their neck and their done
i've tried the rpg, stinger, javelin and other missile launchers and they do the same thing when i try to fire at the gekkou,i think you have to be a certain angle for it to hit them

I dont know but the only explanation (I highly doubt its a bug) seems to be a missile deflection system. Do you all disagree with me there? Because I'm feeling kinda left out in the cold on this theory.

The Gekko's have an anti-missile feature. Every time I've shot a missile at them it's been deflected away. So it's not a problem with the Javelin.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, Ice. I've fired Javelins, RPGs, and LAWs at Gekko on numerous occasions (including inside the nuclear warhead storage building... which there are, in fact, no longer any nukes stored), and the only place I've had them veer off is that very last Gekko at the end of Act 2.

I agree with .Shpow, though. Two rounds from the big bore, and Gekko go down faster than a drunk Britney Spears.

You're lying, I've been you

I don't know where you were looking, but there were TONS of nukes in the storage building...nobody has been there since Snake, nothing was moved.

Anyway, I've never been able to shoot em in that area with rockets either, was shocked and annoyed with it. But at least the .50 can take em down with one shot, even on TBE.
