Stop the time?

Was playing MGS4 the other day and just came to wonder:

does anybody know if by pressing the PS button and going to the in-game XMB, does that stop the time in MGS4?

And if anybody knows what counts and what doesnt? I know cutscenes count and load screens don't.. anything else?

thanks. :ninja:

I think it does. You can see that it freezes your game in the background.

It pauses the game but the timer keeps going. The timer times everything apart from when it says "Loading". So cutscenes, saving and install screens all add time on.

Well, someone could test this but yesterday, while playing my third playthrough (going for the Chicken rank), I got to the area in Act 1 (immediately after the RatPatrol 01 battle with the FROGS in the garage) and I jumped over the boxes in the next section. At this point, there was a checkpoint and I saved the game. The time was around 3:50 minutes or something (I did a lot of crap for emblems before getting to this point) and I got down in my cardboard box so I could do the Tortoise emblem.

Anyways, the point is, I came back about an hour later and the time, after I saved it, again, said 3:52... so, apparently, in that section, time is stopped? Or maybe when you are in a section where you just get a checkpoint, time stops? It's something to check out and I definitely will when I get home... I may just be a maniac but, it's a possibility that time doesn't advance in the section immediately after a checkpoint.

You have to get to a new checkpoint for your save to have any effect.

Ah, so even the time won't register until you get to the next checkpoint... I see, I just thought it was the items you pick up and changes you make with items/weapons that don't get saved. Now, I regret turning the game off after finding that my hour of cardboard sitting didn't register.

Ok guys.. I wanted to test my hypothesis.. so this is what I did..

I started a new game, skipped all the cutscenes, and right away pressed the PS button to pull up the XMB.. i left it there for a while... took a shower, changed, and other things, came back and ran to the first checkpoint (as you all know that should only take about 30 secs, maybe even less) and then saved it.

I pulled up to the main title screen and checked the time on the load game screen. it said...... (drumroll): 47:52

So, I guess it does count it.

If anybody is interested I found this:

"...the game clock only pauses during loading, on the results screen, and throughout the MGS1 dream sequence."

If you have a mic, you can literally tell Snake "Stop the time!" but it's weird because you have to REALLY shout it and when you say "time" you need to make it real long like "tiiiiiiiimmmmmeeeee" and make the end go "-meeeee" and there you go! And yes Hideo told me this when I met him that time in an airport toilet.
