It looks like its all the rage now in Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, I love it though.

Looks like everyone is reintroducing older campy flicks and turning them into darker more serious flicks with some heavy themes.

Batman is now darker and more serious.

James Bond is less campy, more serious and more realistic.

Wolverine movie coming out starring Hugh Jackman is supposedly very very dark and encompasses complex character relationships.

Heck, even the Harry Potter movies are getting darker and less childish but that was to be expected.

What are your thoughts?

well id rather have em like this, then being the happy child style alot of movies take. But thats me, im a weirdo, id rather see death n decay then joyful scenes in movies, games, or anything.

As he (and his villains) should be. Seriously Two Face and the Riddler were just ridiculous and Freeze was just plain wrong. Scarecrow on the other hand was actually scary at times (but not all out in your face, I personally find the Crane bits more disturbing than the Scarecrow bits) and from what I've seen the trailers speak for the Joker themselves.

Which again is good, but then again that trend has been happening since The Living Daylights so it's nothing new. The realism aspect I see as a double edge sword, sure it should be good seeing Bond rely on his wits more than Q-branches latest toy, but goddamn it I want Little Nellie back.

That's something I look forward to, Wolverine has always been one of my favourite characters and his rivalry with Sabertooth was one of the first storylines that I read when I got into the X-men.

I suppose I enjoy the darkness and depravity. I'm not a kid anymore and I don't always need a happy ending or even a happy story. Hollywood can continue as it is.

I pretty much agree with everything Helikaon just said.

I like this happening to the current movies, a lot. I actually pretty much enjoyed the third and the fourth Harry Potter film. Much darker and grittier, and Casino Royale is currently my favorite Bond film as well.

Also the whole thing with The Dark Knight being way darker then Begins, I love it. I just love it, finally another dark Batman movie, can't wait for that one.

For all the reasons stated above i like this trend. But i dont at the same time...

What i mean is that yes it is good to see a new batman or wolverine as they should have been portrayed in the first place. But what about the new ideas? I say this loosely but anyone can remake a movie, song or game. But it takes real genius to create someting new and have it succed, and i think hollywood are starting to fear that, trapped in a comfort zone of remakes.

i guess its a double edged sword, yay we get to see all the things we liked years ago but with better graphics and music and maybe even a better story. But what about the new stuff?
