Yeah, I speak about people from Europe, US, Canada, Australia, and pretty much every single other non-Japanese country who add -san, -chan, and -kun to the end of names, use expressions such as Nippon and Kawaii seriously, and generally act like Japan is the heaven of all that's good.

Seriously, you look and act like idiots and as such, you must be idiots. Stop that annoying shit and grow the fuck up.

I don't look very highly at the crazy Japmaniacs either for the most of the time. Same goes for being obsessed by any country. Reminds me of this idiot who lives nearby who has a fucking U.S.A flag hanging in his doorstep. Why exactly? I don't know. (No offense to Americans, but that is just dumb).

Keivan-Chan? It just sounds so perfect.

I could personally care less about them, I mean, if they really like Japanese media, I fail to see the harm, though those overkill people need to cease and desist.

Theres nothing wrong with that post though. Because Hideo is Kojima-San and is the proper way to say his name in Japan

So bitching about that is just unnecesary

No, the proper way would have been to say either Mr. Hideo or the entire post in Japanese. He writes English and as such should use the English prefix, not the Japanese suffix. You don't go around saying "Herr Reinfeldt" instead of Mr. Reinfeldt(Swedish Prime Minister) when you're speaking English because it's not English.

And if you do do that then well, you're the same type of idiot.

I'm not a hater of Japan, just this kind of people. I can appreciate media and history from Japan(I mean, I've watched a few animes throughout the years* and I do have some J-Rock and J-Pop on my playlist) but these people are just idiots.

*Most of them suck though.

Wow, dude. I hate that type of otaku speech as well, but seriously, you're telling them to grow up when you made this trolling, flaming thread just to talk shit about them like a child? No offence, but perhaps you should listen to your own advice.

Right. I hang out with people who do this. I get your frustration, but this isn't the way to express that frustration, honestly. This type of thing just creates more anger in the world. That anger leads to hate, and that hate is what's tearing our world apart.

I don't hate people*, I hate things that people do.

Being fucking weeaboos is pretty highly rated on that list.

*No seriously. I can't bring myself to hate any human being, past or present. It's just not in my nature.

Feck off!

I kind of agree with you on this. I dislike people who do this with any language other than their native tongue, if they (or the person they are talking to) aren't fluent in the other language. For example English speaking British people who say bonjour to other English speaking British people. It really gets under my skin for some reason, and I have no idea why. I had a real problem with this "Japlingo" during my first year of Sixth Form. Three real hardcore PC game geeks who were deep into ('mainstream' and cliché choice) anime used a butchered version of Japanese quite regularly and it was seriously annoying. Also very distracting when you are trying to revise the chancellors of Weimar Germany or British Judicial law and then you hear "Kawaii Shane-san" or some other combination of badly accented Japanese with English.

But I don't think there's nothing really wrong with it, it just gets under my skin and makes me boil with rage. It's just a person using something they have heard in a piece of media and then using it in a different context. It's like if I use a phrase from Metal Gear (which I have done) in a comedic context.

It's bloody annoying though.

Okay, I'm going to sound like a fucking tool but please, I have no idea about this shit, I understand European culture, I understand Middle Eastern culture and I understand American culture, but I don't have a clue about Asian culture, when I went to Japan a friend of mine explained it, but I still don't get it, so here goes, why do Japanese people add things onto the end of their names?

Please don't murder me.

Register-san, why so serious?

(I agree with you BTW, like people online I talk to, you show them a pic or song or vid or whatever and they go like "OMG that is SOOOOOOO kawaii!"
Not to mention they will thank with "arigato" and apologise with "gomen."

Seriously I love Japanese stuff but when talking to Japanese freak I still wanna have normal level of conversation without any of those "LOOK@ME I CN SPEK JAPANEZE" parts.)

@OuterJacob-kun:
Quote:

Common titles

* -san (さん) = Mr/Mrs/Ms/Miss : The "-san" suffix serves as a mark of respect. A person may be addressed with the "-san" suffix if the speaker does not know the subject well, but the speaker does not wish to be rude to the subject, or when the subject has a higher social rank than the speaker. Nobody can reasonably take offense at -san. (Well, some people can be offended by anything, but that is a different issue.) -san is used for both males and females. Girls become -san when entering high school, boys become -san when leaving high school. Obviously, individuals may have different experiences, but we're talking about a rule of thumb.

* -sama (様) Sama is used as a polite term of address to someone noticeably older or of higher status than yourself. Thus clerks and waiters and other service sectors employees will call just about everybody -sama, probably as 'o-kyaku-sama' (Ms Guest, or Mr Guest). O-sama is also used as a standalone title. It's very polite and shows either that the person you are addressing outranks you by a large margin, is much older than you, or you are in a very formal situation -- or maybe you don't know their name and need a polite address. It is sometimes translated into English as 'Lord' or 'Lady', but it is more like 'sir' or 'ma'am'. I can't explain in which cases you call someone "-sama" other than the obvious cases ("oto-sama" (otō-sama) - instead of "oto-san" (otō-san) - to call your father if you have a rich family and have to show very very big big big respect to him ; or when talking to a "Lord") so if you have more info about it, feel free to provide details. It is also used when referring to "kami-sama" (kami = god/paper/hair ; choose the one that fits ;) ). A good example is a maid calling her master "Taro-sama" (Taro is used as a Japanese generic name. Nothing to do with Taro Hanaukyo (花右京太郎 Hanaukyō Tarō), a character from Hanaukyo Maid Team :) ). I think this is rarely used nowadays. It can also be sarcastic. The title "shi" may be preferred.

* -kun (君): Generally for male children. Also could be used when addressing a male of lesser status. High school boys are "kun", but -kun can also be used a term of address by an older man to a younger man, or among friends and equals. Thus a boss can address a junior male employee as -kun, but the employee will address the boss as Kacho, or maybe -san or -sama, depending on the situation.

* -chan (ちゃん): An informal version of "san" used to address children and female family members. Children under about 10 years of age are "-chan", -chan continues to be used as a term of endearment, especially for girls, into adulthood. Parents will probably always call their daughters -chan and their sons -kun. Adults will use -chan as a term of endearment to women with whom they are on close terms. Sexist Japanese men will also use it to address waitresses and other junior women. This is still quite common in Japan and is usually considered acceptable; feminism is lagging behind the West. "-chan" is also used with pets and animals.

* -senpai (先輩): Used to address senior members in an academic environment or in sports clubs. It is sometimes seen in business environments. mean 'elder male student'. Note that the kanji for 'sen' is the same kanji in both sensei and senpai -- it originally means something like 'wizard.' A senpai is specifically a male student more senior than the speaker. Elder students have a leadership role with junior students and 'senpai' recognizes that. However, not all young men show the maturity and knowlege that results in them being called 'senpai'. Senpai can be addressed as either -kun or -san depending upon their age and their relationship with the one addressing them. An older man would never call a younger man senpai, it is always from a junior student to a more senior male student. Recently senior female students have started to be addressed as senpai, but this is not yet widespread. The word is frequently spelled sempai according to the original version of Hepburn.

* -kohai (後輩 kōhai): The reverse of senpai. Kohai is used to address juniors.

* -sensei (先生) means teacher. It can be used as a title "-sensei", or as a standalone title, Sensei. You call someone that teaches you a particular subject "-sensei". It is also used for an M.D. A sensei is therefore a subcategory of -sama. That is to say, not all -sama are sensei, but all sensei are -sama. Either sensei or -sama is correct for a teacher, but sensei is probably preferred, especially if the speaker has benefited from or hopes to benefit from the sensei's knowledge.

* -shi (氏): Shi is used in formal writing to refer to a person unfamiliar to the speaker. Shi is often used in newsreaders, legal documents, and academic journals.

Original Source :here.

It's a sign of respect more than anything else TBH.

*Grins a wide glinty-teethed grin of affection*

Well my dear, I found a video on YouTube that really sums some of this all up (Yes I am aware of the YouTube Thread, but it is within context to post this here), however this guy speaks Japanese with a strange accent! So I don't know what hes getting at.

There will always be the culture 'Fanboys' who latch on to a culture cause they think its cool, but I think the most important thing to remember is to learn the culture and language PROPERLY. Unlike a joke I saw once about the English abroad who think that talking the language is speaking English but with the accent!

I mean, I've been told that I speak English with a thick Dutch accent (*Looks really disapointed and let down*), Sooooo, I took lessons, spoke to more native english speakers and asked them to correct me whenever I sounded 'Squeeky' or gutteral (One of the biggest problems with Dutch on English is not sounding gutteral, espacially with 'G'). Good thing I'm very softspoken anyway *Whispers seductivly*.
However, my father sounds American when he speaks english so hes really got it down to a fine art! (Hehe I'll learn that!)

*High Cheekboned Grin*

Wow, your panties are awfully bunched up over a rather insignificant point.

As Null said, I'm the worst example you could've used. I don't use "Japlingo"; many people (including Americans) refer to Hideo as 'Kojima-san'. It's all through the MGS4 strategy guide, for example. If you've got a problem with people who call him that, or even with people who really do use "Japlingo", I suggest you start ignoring them, because it's rather pathetic to feel so strongly about something so stupid. Complaining about everything will get you nowhere in life.

So get over it, chum. Go get a job and put all that energy to good use.
