According to Colonel Gurlukovich in MGS2, the technology that gave birth to Metal Gear comes from Russia. Then in MGS3 we hear about Granin laying out the basic ideas, as well as having designs for, Metal Gear units. But...what about Dr. Madnar in MG1? Is he forgotten? |

To answer your question, it would be Granin. Don't forget that MGS3 is the prequel to all other Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid games. I don't think Dr. Madnar had a big enough story to even be considered for later games. |

It wasn't Granin who designed the Shagohod; Granin was working on Metal Gear REX when Sokolov finished the Shagohod. I know what you're saying, though. In MGS2 it's as if whatever Metal Gear was in MG1 and MG2 (I haven't beaten the games myself) was never actually built or considered a threat. |

Granin didn't consider the Shagohod a Metal Gear, looking at the way he talks about them. He also didn't like Sokolov that much, because they chose Sokolov to make the Shagohod and not him. Granin came up with the idea of bipedal tanks, the actual Metal Gear and I think then Big Boss used that idea and Dr. Madnar created the first Metal Gear. From Big Boss's expression when Granin told it, you could sort of tell he was interested in it. Probably it was HK's idea to bring it out like that, that Big Boss went on with Granin's plans and ideas, becoming the 'father' of the first Metal Gear. |

Wasn't there a Metal Gear in Portable Ops? |

Oh yeah.. Forgot about PO. I didn't play it, someone else should tell this
edit: I looked it up. It's indeed a prototype Metal Gear, made by Sokolov, but the blueprints again came from Granin. So Granin is still the creator. |

So we come back again to the original question...where does Dr. Madnar fit in? Or is he just kinda obselete these days? |

He really doesn't matter in the big scope the series. All he did was design the TX55 in MG1. |

He created the Metal Gears in both Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land...I would think he's just as relevant as Otacon's father who didn't do anything except make the theory of a bipedal tank. |

Madnar was Czechoslovakian, not Russian. Granin designed Metal Gear. Portable Ops reveals that Sokolov developed Metal Gear RAXA. So Sergei's words are true after a sense, Russian's did design and develop the first Metal Gear. |

Who said Madnar was Russian? I said what Colonel Sergei said was supported by MGS3 and then asked where that left Madnar. |

From that I inferred that you meant that Madnar was Russian. |

What's funny about Madnar is that his story is just like Sokolov, where he's trying to come to America to get away from developing Metal Gear and he ends up being trapped and you have to go save him. |

That was the point. To show the similarities between the rookie Big Boss and the rookie Solid Snake, to show that once their worlds weren't so far apart. |

Right! I just have been noticing all kinds of similarities between most, if not all, of the Metal Gear games. |

Granin's designs were of Metal Gear Rex weren't they? In fact I'm pretty damn sure they were. I'm fucking Portable Ops right off. Madnar constructed the first Metal Gear. The Shagohod wasn't considered a Metal Gear, Kojima deliberately went out of the way not to call it a Metal Gear so he didn't fuck up the consistency that MG1 had the first one.
No, Dr Kio Marv was Czechoslovakian (the one who invented OILIX which is now becoming a reality: http://www.ecogeek.org/content/view/1433/). Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar was in fact Russian. |

well I'm fucking mgs3 right off and saying that the one who made the idea for bipedal tanks was Charlie von heinrich. Granin made the idea for bipedal tanks and sent it to otacon's father, he then gave it to otacon and he made metal gear rex in mgs1, granin's original designs were used by sokolov to make metal gaear rex and then used by madnar to make the metal gear in mg1 and 2. (my theory) |
