Budget of around £600. This should get a decent one. For a guide, the spec I have seen on one laptop (Not going to mention the name till the end because theyre not an amazing company) is this: Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor speed (2 GHz, 667 MHz, 2 MB Cache) Memory Size 4 GB MB Memory Type DDR2 RAM Hard Drive Capacity 250 GB T Optical Drives BLU RAY DISC COMBO DRIVE CD-ROM Speed 24 x CD-RW Speed. 24 x DVD-RW Speed N/A x Floppy Disk Drive NO Screen Size/Type 15.4" CrystalBrite widescreen Graphics Card Type ATi Mobility Radeon HD3470 Graphics Memory dedicated 256 MB TV-out YES Sound Type Intel HD Audio support Modem Type 56kbps Wireless Enabled YES No. of USB Connections 4 No. of Firewire Connections 1 Infrared Port Included YES Other Interfaces 5 in 1 card reader Battery Type Li-ion Battery life (up to) 2.5 hours Software Titles Included WORKS & OFFICE TRIAL Weight 3 kg Height 308 mm Width 364 mm Depth 270 mm Right, Things I need it for and to-do. Photo Editing, Uni coursework etc, Browsing internet and MSN, Watching videos. Needs to be portable as I will be working onboard ships. So not really 17" screen. Etc etc. That one I just quoted is £599 from a highstreet store, so I may be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. There you go. Any suggestions. |

I thought it seems pretty good for that price. Nothing else seems to touch it and to get a decent make at that spec would cost about a grand or so it seems. |

There's tons of good price internet retailers, I'm sure you can found something. Um from the top of my head.. amazon.co.uk overclockers.co.uk It's all good and fine having an awesome PC but if you're just going to be doing what you've stated you could probably get away spending half of your budget Edited by Sybris, Aug 11 2008, 11:06 PM.

Ding ding ding! Tell him what he's won jim! Well Dan, He has gotten himself a luxury Speedboat! Haha, Yeah Acer. Seemed to be the only one around that spec for that price. Obviously because of the name I am guessing. And yep, PC world haha. Easiest place to find a load in one place. Sybris, I understand I could spend half my budget. But Id like to buy something I wont 'really' have to update in the near future. Plus the fact I'll be working at sea for upto 9months at a time means I dont want it to be sluggish at the wrong times

Kryptonls 1 - Dell Boi 1 How could he not have got PC World.... ![]() And mind the double post, matey. @Dan: I mean it might be worth having a quick look online... eBuyer and the like, but the good thing about buying from a shop means you can take it straight back to them if you encounter any problems. Just make sure not to suckup to the sales assistant and to not buy all the shit they will try and sell with it. |

My Dell is doing my head in. It completely slowed down after i first bought it. Got a virus 2 months ago (well that was my fault). Got it back last week, and my adapter's broke. Check the Dell site, and it's bludy ?48 for a new one. Finally decide to get it, and they don't accept Maestro.

Surely you can get spare parts cheap over eBay or other general sites... for example I know that PC World have their own site set up that allows people to list their spare computer accessories and stuff. Just try a good Google search next time before shelling out a silly amount of money for a new, official one maybe. |

I checked on Amazon (i get everything there), and i found one for £18. Sounded grand, went to checkout, and the delivery was £15. That's not even funny. It's ridiculous. |
