Solid Snake's Bandana

Solid Snake is usually seen with a bandana. Personlly, I think it was originlly The Boss', which Big Boss then had, and then he gave it to Solid Snake, as he was Snake's mentor. I believe tht Big Boss and Snake became very close, and that is the reason Snake dons Big Boss' old bandana.
What do you think of the bandana? Do you think it was Big Boss'?

Uh... no he wasn't.

No they didn't. Snake was betrayed and manipulated by Big Boss, eventually killing him. Even if Big Boss did give Snake his bandanna (which he wasn't wearing during the Metal Gear era) I see no reason why he would wear it. Unless you have some proof of this relationship (which you don't), this would never have happened. ;)

Though, I don't have the answer to how he got his bandanna- it was probably his own quirk or something. Anyway, the one he wears now is from Meryl- with infinite ammo. :D

Damn that's a harsh replay there, GTMTSYA.... But too true! It would be fun to think that Big Boss and Solid Snake had that kind of relationship, but I tend to see Big Boss hating Snake just for being a product of the government that's been betraying him over and over. Even if he is his "son".

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as 'harsh'- more just, "No, that's no where near right, this is how it." Which sounds pretty condescending too, huh.
Oh well. Sorry if I offended you, Wilson.

Sorry if I offended you, Wilson.

Don't worry, I wasn't offended. ^_^
I have been visiting different forums for a few months now, and I have started to realise that certain people are bold in their opinion, but not being rude. Don't worry, GTMTSYA. But you should be worried when I get my camera, so I can destroy ya at MGS3! I wish... :P

Curious, even Meryl in MGS4 wears a bandana. I wonder if she wears it as a representative of her relationship with Snake...or if Snake gave it to her.

It doesn't matter what you think!

Doesn't Snake wear a red bandana in MG?. If that is Big Bosses Bandana then it must be very funky by now.

No more infinite ammo.

Well the only bandana that has any known story in Metal Gear is Big Bosses bandana which used to belong to The Boss and i would imagine he wore that till his golden ages and it probably became second nature.

As for Solid Snake he is probably just like Rambo, wears random bandana's but maybe wears one because he knew Big Boss used to, or maybe it's in his genes, remember not only is Solid Snake the closest to his father in likeness and abilities but also he is a clone which means a copy of the original, not a normal human being so he would have the same quirks and traits a his father. So maybe he just has an urge he can't resist to wear one.

And although it seems heaven sent

Big Boss wasnt Snakes mentor. I've read long ago and I also saw on the MGS Saga Vol. 2 that Solid Snake didnt know at the beginning he was Big Boss' clone. He found at the end of the Shadow Moses incident (Liquid told him). It is a good theory but I think it is something else about that bandana.

All mistakes aside, I would wonder why he started wearing a bandanna as well. Strange. I think it'll be one of those things we'll never know. I know in MGS 2 he wore the bandanna that Meryl gave him because he still had feelings for her. I don't know if that's true for MGS4 as well.

Solid Snake wore a bandanna, that doesn't mean that it was the same that Big Boss wore and the Boss before him. The semi-official outfit of FOXHOUND was a bandanna. Gray Fox wore one, as did Kasler and even Holly.

I think it's just a FOX/FOXHOUND thing, nothing special.

A FOXHOUND thing blatantly Big Boss started. In homage to his old mentor, The Boss, he had all his high ranking FOXHOUND operatives wear one. Makes sense now, i'd go with that as my number 1 theory for the origin of the bandana.

This Tastes...HORRIBLE!!! Hungry for Some Snake?

The bandanna is a classic, and it's awesome. Honestly, which one of us here does not like bandannas on our heads as we run around the house with NERF guns shooting at little brothers pretending he's a guard and you're Snake...I know I find it awesome. Anyone who wears it, looks cool, expect for people that talk in LEET speak in real life...Anyway, for example, look at RYU from Street Fighter, he looks pimp with it on, so does RAMBO. And that may be another reason Snake has his bandanna, RAMBO had one, and it suits him...MAN I WANT ONE!

And the Bandanna is obviously different in MGS3, it doesn't give you infinite ammo, and it's like a dark-ish green color, as in MGS2 or MGS1, *The PS1 version, where it barely looks like a bandanna considering it doesn't have the tail flying in the back...stupid grapihcs* where it is darker blue. You gotta use the INFINITY Face Paint to get infinity ammo, geez I thought that was self explanatory! Nah I'm only kidding.

All these theories could be true, but then again you could be reading into it to much, if i remember rightly, equipping the bandana you receive from Meryl in MGS leaves a trail behind him as oppose to the one hes designed with, resembling a difference already. In MG 1 and 2 the characters were in fact based on the Rambo series, Snake was Rambo, Colonel Campbell was Colonel Trautman etc. this gives reason for the bandana in the first of the series being red. i personally beleive, that his bandana is jus a design, i dont think theres a huge theory behind it, like its already been stated, bandanas jus make people look cool. what do you guys think ?

Yes, that's a spring roll.

Snake was based off John Conner from Terminator for Metal Gear, Arnold Swarzchanegger (close enough) for Snake's Revenge, and um- Mel Gibson, I think, for Metal Gear 2. Heli or someone will confirm for us, sooner or later.
I can't remember who he's based on in MGS, but Kurt Russel/Snake Plisken from Escape From New York is obviously the inspiration for MGS2 Snake. Etc.

Christopher Walken for his face, Jean-Claude Van Damme for his body. The others are correct (although I'd say more Sylvester Stallone for Snakes-shitty-Revenge), with Lee van Cleef (another actor from EFNY) for Old Snake

Lee Van Cleef was originally used for Revolver Ocelot too, huh. Dun Dun Dunnnn...

Forgot about Stallone. I'd say a mix of him and Arnie then, Arnie for the portrait, Stallone for the sprite.

Similarly to this, most 'baddies' of the MGS series wear trench coats, if not all. Much like they all wear those as a semi-official uniform, the heroes and characters we are meant to most connect with wear bandannas (and is part of a semi-official uniform)

Because J. Moses Browning didn't invent a .46

Big Boss's bandanna is OD green, Snake's is navy blue. They're not the same bandanna.

And in my opinion. Ocelot (especially in MGS4) resembles Lee Van Cleef far more than Snake does, mustache or not.
