I made my first one a while ago, concerning being harassed by them. This time it's a different story. So, I was woken up this morning by the sounds of someone screaming on my estate. (For all the Americans out there, an estate is like a housing project) I looked out my window and see two men, and one woman. One of the men is absolutley battering this bloke, literally - it was nasty to watch. Pummeling him with fists and kicking him in the head while this woman was screaming. So obviously, I get out my cell phone in a 'just woken up daze' and ring the police, report whats going on and then proceed to sit and wait while this poor guy is having seven shades of shit kicked out of him. I'm waiting and waiting..I think for a situation as serious as this they'd be here in 10 minutes at least. But no, an hour passes - this shit is still going on outside until it stops a couple of minutes later. The guy backs off and leaves this guy all bloodied up on the floor. About a half hour later I get a phone call from the police, which went as follows; 'Hello is this the caller who reported an assault incident earlier?' 'Yes' 'Well, is anyone walking around with half an arm' I stop and think for a second, is this guy actually being serious? Have they had reports of someone having their arm hacked off? I reply 'Um..no, not that I can see' And to my absolute astonishment, I get this in reply 'Okay, well it's no need to worry then, bye' The phone went dead and I'm sitting there absolutley fucking gobsmacked. I look back out my window and this guy is stumbling to his feet, screaming for an ambulance. Other people were coming out of their doors now and helping him. I'm sitting here thinking, did that actually happen? I actually can't believe it. No police there at all. I'm actually so pissed off I'm making a complaint. What if that guy would of died? With the current climate in London, speficially my part of London being extremely dangerous this is unbeliveable. I still can't believe it now. |

I really don't know. I didn't recognise him from this area, and I don't know where he went too afterwards because no ambulance arrived on the estate. I can only imagine someone took him inside on my estate and helped him out. I really don't know, I am still in a state of shock about it. |

That's fucking weird as hell. I mean it could be some cranky call centre guy that's sick of prank calls from the same area but regardless that's ridiculously careless. Good on you for complaining because that warrants a bloody investigation. |

Hah, that kind of inconsistency is normal here in the states. They're not going to show up before the guy is finished battering someone. You could batter two or three people before they tend to show up. Thank God for the .45 Auto. |

Wow that is terrible. I saw something similar few days ago. This bloke walked out of a pub in Wolverhampton (a pub that I frequent quite often) and was mugged, after giving his phone over the prick who was mugging him proceeded to batter the living shit out of him. The landlord phoned the police while it was happening and the responder on the end said "Is the offence ongoing?" (or something similar) and explained that they couldn't dispatch a patrol car or a foot patrol until it was over. It was finally broken up by people in the pub and the bloke had to be driven to a local hospital. The emergency services in this country really need to pull their fingers out of their collective arses. It seems they're more concerned with picking up the pieces than preventing crime. |

The Giffard Arms. I've seen stuff like this happen a few times before, it's quite depressing thinking about it, you could be getting the shit kicked out of you and the police wouldn't come. Seems more suited to a village in the Middle East or other "trouble area", rather than a supposedly civilised nation. |

Dude, that exact same bullshit happened at my parents work. They have a money market in Gilroy, which means loads of gangsters. So me and my parents were working teller at money market then these dudes start beating the shit out of each other, one of the attackers was a previous customer too I might add. I call the cops and reported the situation, and nothing. More people are coming, and still nothing. They start bailing out, screaming they'd be back, making threats to the guys getting their asses kicked, and nothing. The whole day passes, we don't even get that "courtesy" call you got, just no one comes at all. Gang violence, and we just watch hopelessly. I can't imagine what my dad would've done if he had received a similar call like you got. Because that is beyond fucked up, that is just plain not doing your job. See this is why I hate police so damn much, they put most of their people out as highway patrol so they can always bust people for speeding or not wearing their seatbelts, but when we actually need these guys, where the hell are they? Why is it called 911 emergency response if the people behind the phone line simply aren't responding? People weren't outside watching that poor guy getting beaten, were they Null? Because if so, then that would just be even worse for this type of situation. |

Its funny how police make such a fuss over insugnificant things such as a child riding his bike or the pavement or people standing up in the back row at a football ground (*cough**cough*) yet when its someones life on the line they don't seem to give a fuck. Its a bit unfair to blame the actual police officers, they are just normal people like us, the British emergency services system and therefore politicians is most likely where the blame should lie. I can't say I know an awful lot about the emergency system but it does not seem to work at all. Crime is as bad now as it ever was - and the emergency services don't seem to be doing much about it. Politicians seem more worried about publicity than making the country a better place. Edited by Roy Campbell, Jul 20 2008, 06:33 PM.

Not the nicest scene to wake up to, I consider myself lucky I do not live in London. Like with most things that go wrong I blame the government, mean if its first thing on a sunday morning you'd think they'd be able to spare someone. I'm starting to hear stories like this worryingly frequently, they either fail to turn up, nick the victem or claim to have insufficient evidence even though they catch them in the act. Even if criminals are convicted they get a pityful sentance. But the good news is we are now legally allowed to defend ourselves if someone breaks into our house, hooray! Fucking liberal government. |

Thats a good way of putting it. In my home town I cant drive down the street without getting pulled over for some reason. While in the next town over I could drive 75 in a 45 right past a cop and not worry about a thing. But that town has bigger problems to worry about like drive bys, drug deals, murders and thefts. Reality sucks. My grandma was robbed at gun point for like a change purse in her own home. The guy walked right inside from the front door. The cops showed up in a matter of seconds. Depends on your area. |

I'm so glad I got out of London before the knife epidemic, London Met are just cocksuckers plain and simple, they searched me under the Terrorism Act once for taking a photograph in Parliament Square, I explained to them that I worked at the House Of Commons, showed them my pass and everything, but I was still a terror suspect to them. They suspect everyone, but when an actual crime has been committed they couldn't care less. Edit: As far as crime rates go, Switzerland, Japan, Yemen and Canada are excellent.
