Metal Gear Online: Intro Metal Gear Online is the new online function to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It is the fourth version of Metal Gear Online (MGO with Subsistance, MGO for Portable Ops, MGO for Portable Ops+). MGO was released as a starter pack with MGS4. It can support up to sixteen players in a room. MGO offers a chance to use the new SOP system. Link up with youry comrades to be given full real time battle data. There are two modes of play. First is the standard Normal version, where you are offered a limited amount of weapons with out any attachments. The second is Drebin Points. In this mode you will only be able to choose from a small list of weapons to begin with, but as you get more points (DP) you will be able to use better weapons and attachments. For a full list of MGO Animal Ranks with the descriptions, refer here. Table of Contents: 1. Maps 2. Weapons 3. Game types 4. Skills 5. Creating a character/Deleting a character 6. Special Characters 7. Online Problems MAPS -Urban Ultimatum: An urban city. With several buildings, this map offers great vantage points for snipers. There are also many twists and turns, offering chances to have fire superiority, and run flanking maneuvers. Essentially this is a remake of City Under Siege from the original MGO. Best suited for medium to long range. -Blood Bath: A small killhouse. With an underground tunnel this map is the best for CQB (close quarters battle). Best suited for close to medium range. -Ambush Alley: A night map with small rooftops off the ground. Cover is strewn all around the map. Using teamwork, it is easy to use flanking tactics to defeat the enemy. Best suited for close to medium range. -Midtown Maelstrom: A desert map taken from the MGS4 storyline. There are many small alleys that can lead to skirmishes, as well as a long road for sniping. This map is best suited for medium to long range. -Groznyj Grad: Taken from MGS3, this is a replica of the Soviet military complex. With many guard towers and the roofs of the Shagohod hanger bay, this offers snipers many places to pick you off. Watch your back and stick to the outsides of the map where shadows can be found. Best suited for long range. GENE -Virtuous Vista: Straight out of MGS4 gameplay, make your own assault on the power depot. Set in the massive warzone of South America, Virtuous Vista is an excellent map for stealth gameplay. Fight in the fields, in the mountains, or in the power complex. Best suited for long range. -Tomb of Tubes: A redesigned rendition of Naked Snake's valiant escape from Groznyj Grad. With many streams and twists and turns, be on your toes or you will get attacked from behind. Best suited for close range. -Coppertown Conflict: Out of the past to save the day comes the original MGO map, Brown Town. With only few minor differences, which include and entire terrain to explore off the ground, the map is just as fun as it was back in the day. Join the fight in the dust. Best suited for medium range. MEME -Silo Sunset: Taken from the setting of Naked Snake and Null's first duel, return to the Silo from Portable Ops. The map is the same as it is on Portable Ops, with only few changes. Two rooftops offer decent vantage points for shooters. Best suited for close to medium range. -Winter Warehouse: A snowy wonderland to conduct battle. With a large abandoned warehouse, take opportunities to fight the enemy in the snow below. The map offers indoor and outdoor combat. Best suited for any class of weapon. -Forest Firefight: A dense forest separates you from the tangos. Move slowly through the brush to confront the enemy and be careful of waiting ghillie'd snipers in the weeds. Explore the cabin, and caves in the midst of the forest. Best suited for close to medium range. SCENE -Hazard House: A massive two story mansion is the setting of this fun map. The building has dozens of room and ample amounts of cover to make you feel secure under fire. Best suited for close to medium range. -Outer Outlet: A shopping complex under seige. Fight through the alleys, inside a large industrial complex, or in the underground parking garage. The map offers decent amounts of cover and many flanking opportunities. Best suited for medium to long range. -Ravaged Riverfront: A similar environment to Snake's trip in Eastern Europe. The map offers two large sniping towers, with plenty of buildings to take cover in. Use the bridges to cross the sides of the map, or dive right into the water and conduct aquatic operations from there. Best suited for medium to long range. WEAPONS -GSR: .45 caliber pistol with 8 rounds to a clip. -Operator: .45 caliber with 7 rounds to a clip. Can be equipped with a silencer. -MK. 2 Pistol: Anest. (.22) tranquilizer rounds with 10 to a magazine. -Glock 18: 9x19mm fully automatic pistol. (Available with Drebin Points on) -Desert Eagle: .50 caliber pistol with 7 rounds to a clip. Extremely high powered, with a slow rate of fire. (Available with Drebin Points on) -VZ. 83: 9x18mm rounds with 20 to a clip. With a high rate of fire and good stability, this weapon sacrifices power for close quarters conditions. -P90: 5.7x28mm rounds with 50 to a clip. High rate of fire and large magazine capacity make up for the low damage of this CQB weapon. -MP5SD2: 9x19mm rounds with 30 to a clip. Automatically equipped with a suppressor. Very low damage with high rate of fire and accuracy. -AK102: 5.56x45 mm rounds. Sacrifices accuracy and rate of fire for range and damage. Standard weapon on MGO. -M4 Custom: 5.56x45mm rounds. Sacrifices power for accuracy and rate of fire. Can be equipped with silencer, foregrip, shotgun or grenade attachments, acog scope or red dot sight, flashlight, and laser. -MK. 17: 7.62x51mm rounds. Higher damage than the M4 and AK. This weapon is good for longer range. Can be equipped with a foregrip, acog scope or red dot sight -XM8: 5.56x45mm rounds. This gun is an all around good weapon. With good accuracy and rate of fire, it is equipped with its own red dot sight. It sacrifices power, but is a good choice weapon. (Available with Drebin Points on) -G3A3: 7.62x51mm rounds. This gun is as powerful as the MK.17. It is best suited for longer range, and offers good accuracy, but sacrifices a high rate of fire and a smaller clip size (20 rounds). (Available with Drebin Points on) -SVD: 7.62x54R rounds. The standard sniper rifle. It has precision accuracy but with relatively low damage for a sniper rifle. -Mosin-Nagant: Anest: (.22) rounds. Bolt action tranquilizer sniper rifle. -M14EBR: 7.62x51mm rounds. High powered fully automatic precision assault rifle equipped a sniper scope. It is relatively inaccurate firing fully automatic, but makes up for it in sheer power. 20 round magazine. (Available with Drebin Points on) -DSR-1: 7.62x67mm rounds. Extremely high powered bolt action sniper rifle. Usually a one or two hit kill. (Available with Drebin Points on) -M60E4: 7.62x51mm rounds. High powered, slow rate of fire light machine gun. Can be equipped with foregrip, acog scope or red dot sight, laser and flashlight. (Available with Drebin Points on) -M870 Custom: 12 Ga. (00. Buck). High powered shotgun. Good for close range. Can be equipped with V-Ring knockout rounds. -Saiga-12: 12. Ga (00. Buck). High powered automatic shotgun. Good for close range. Can be equipped with V-Ring knockout rounds. (Available with Drebin Points on) -RPG-7: RPG-7 ammo. Rocket launcher replacing standard weapon. (Available with Drebin Points on) -Riot Shield: Protective shield replacing standard weapon. (Available with Drebin Points on) -Automatically equipped with cardboard box, camera, binoculars, stun knife -Items included are grenade, smoke grenade, white phosphorus grenade, stun grenade, claymore, book, sleep gas mine, sleep gas satchel, C4. -Items found on map include: drum can, Night vision goggles SCENE WEAPONS -MK.23: .45 ACP rounds. Better stopping power over GSR and Operator. Equipped with flashlight and laser sight. -VSS: 9x39 mm rounds. A silent, fully automatic sniper with low stopping power. GAME TYPES -Deathmatch: Everyman for themselves -Team Deathmatch: Red team vs Blue team. Eliminate the enemy or be ahead when time runs out. - Capture missionTeams fight to capture either the Kerotan or the GA-KO and then defend it at the goal. -Sneaking mission: Red team vs Blue team with Solid Snake in the midst. One player plays as Snake, another the Mark 2 while the rest are divided into the two teams. To win, Snake must knock soldiers unconscious and steal their dog tags. If one of the enemy teams kills Snake a set number of times, he loses. -Team Sneaking: One team is equipped with stun weapons and stealth camouflage, the other equipped with weapons. The stealth team must capture an objective from the defending team. If one person with stealth camo is spotted, the entire teams stealth camo ceases to work because of the SOP system. -Base Mission: Two teams fight to capture control points located on the map. Whoever controls all the points wins. -Rescue Mission: The defending team protects a target and the attacking team must rescue it. -Stealth Deathmatch: Everyone for themselves, with stealth camo. Fight the unseen enemy as the map slowly closes in around you. Exit the incoming ring and you will slowly die. -Bomb Mission: One team attempts to plant an explosive, with the other team can defuse it with coolant spray. -Solo Capture Mission: Every man for themselves, attempting to defend the Kerotan. Hold for 60 seconds to achieve victory. The player with the Kerotan is visible to everyone. SKILLS (information from MGS4 guide) As you use the skills, they increase in level (up to level 3). You are initially able to have four slots, but as the skill improves it takes up more slots. -Handgun+: Skill wielding handguns. Reduces recoil and reload time. -SMG+: Skill wielding submachine guns. Reduces recoil and reload time -Assault+: Skill wielding assault rifles. Reduces recoil and reload time -Shotgun+: Skill wielding shotguns. Reduces recoil and reload time, and makes pump action faster. -Sniper Rifle+: Skill wielding sniper rifles. Reduces recoil and reload time, and makes bolt action faster -Hawkeye: Increases the zoom rate when aiming in FPS mode (but not while using a scope) -Surveyor: Extends the maximum lock-on distance (which is the same as increasing the LKD rating in the single player) -Quarterback: Enables you to throw items farther -Trickster: Enables you to set up traps more quickly -CQC+: Allows you to restrain targets and use advanced CQC, and increases knockout damage. -Blades+: Allows you to move while attacking with a knife, and makes knife attacks faster -Runner: Increases your movement speed -Monomania: Displays enemies youve attacked. Display time is improved with levels. -Sixth Sense: Displays nearby traps. Range increases with levels -Narc: Displays attacking enemies when they target you and damage is sustained. -Scanner: Press Triangle while restraining enemy to display link info. Scanning time is improved with levels. Requires CQC+ Skill, and the Scanning Plug item. CREATING A CHARACTER/DELETING A CHARACTER When you first sign in using your Game ID, you will be able to create a custom character. You will be able to choose a name, face, voice, and clothing. This cannot be changed. The clothes (except the shirt, pants and shoes) can be taken off. Currently Konami is working on a Rewards system to allow the purchase of new gear. After you have created this character, you will have used the only free slot you have for character creation. To get more characters, you must buy the character slot pack from the MGO store. ***After you create your character, you can delete it after one week in existence. This will open up your free slot to recreate a new character, but you will be unable to use the same name *** SPECIAL CHARACTERS (some info taken from MGO site) GENE (Info from MGO Support Site) -Meryl Silverburgh: Meryl is a fearsome leader. The positions of enemies she shoots and enemies targeting her are visually shared with other team members through the SOP system. Meryl will raise the spirits of teammates nearby to help them recover Psyche. She can also help unconscious teammates get up faster. Meryl excels with the Handgun Skill, which reduces recoil when firing handguns and decreases reload time. -Johnny Akiba Sasaki: Johnny is an expert at disarming traps. All traps in the stage will be displayed on his screen. Press the Triangle button to disarm surrounding traps and turn them into items. MEME (Official info on MGO Support Site unknown): -Mei Ling Mei Ling offers little to get excited about. She is equipped with a stick that directs incoming artillery fire. She also will charm anyone standing near by with her "salute" -Liquid Ocelot In addition to being superb with weapons, Ocelot comes with many features to get excited about. Primary weapon: GOP hand. "Bang Bang" and you are unable to use any weapon. Ocelot can also engage the SOP system and render any player nearby unable to move, by pressing L2. Secondary weapon: The all powerful Thor. Slow reload time, but massive stopping power CQC: Equivalent to Old Snake SCENE (taken from MGO support site) -Raiden Raiden is endowed with superior abilities He moves extremely quickly and can jump to high places where ordinary soldiers would need a boost by pressing Triangle He can fall from any height and land without taking damage Special weapons: Raiden can use the High Frequency Blade and throwing knives Equipping the HF Blade allows him to deflect attacks from the front All traps in the stage will be displayed with his visor closed Raiden has no nanomachines and can not engage the SOP system -Vamp Vamp is endowed with superior physical abilities He moves extremely quickly and can jump to high places where ordinary soldiers would need a boost by pressing Triangle He can fall from any height and land without taking damage Special Weapons: Vamp can use the combat knife and throwing knives When he dies, he is resurrected on the spot * Please note that the above Characters cannot be freely selected. They will be randomly allocated to a player taking part in a game in which their use has been enabled. ONLINE PROBLEMS MGO is not without its faults. Many players have complained from lag on the servers, including a dead body glitch where extreme lag causes everyone to see only a dead body of a person laying on the ground when they are actually invisible running around the map killing people. This is not necessarily the players fault. It is caused by lag. The Gene Expansion Pack has had severe problems. People who purchased it were not given the pack, but were charged for it. Many people, when trying to buy it, are only given a Maintenence Screen for the MGO shop. Konami is trying to sort out these problems and fix the MGO Shop, as well as the Rewards Shop. No permanent solution has been revealed as of yet. Lag is still a major issue for some players. Disconnecting is very common among players with lesser internet connections. - I will update this sporatically when more information and such is release, also if I've forgotten anything. Hopefully this will clear up many questions and stop some of the clutter in this section. Read/enjoy. Just be known that much of this information I wrote up myself, instead of copying other work. Rather than create a completely new topic for one question.. What are the benefits for level 3 NARC? Somebody says that it shows enemies who are looking your direction o.O That'd explain how some people pull of some wicked shots on TSNE without ENVG.. |

The rewards points are aquired through the Survival battle. If you bought the game on the 12th of June, you were given 500 Reward Points, and since then, it has gone up about ten points every couple days. I now have 600. Anyway, I haven't played Survival battle, but if you play that and win a round, you are awarded with Reward Points to use in the Reward Shop. Edited by Snake Liquid, Aug 7 2008, 03:38 PM.

Hi well, I have 2 questions Ive been lookin for an answer to all over the net, so I ended up here. Hopefully someone out here can enlighten me. 1-when throwing a grenade what determines how you will throw it (football pass, or lay-up), how do I switch the way I want to throw it?? (this question applies also for the main game, the only difference is that I have never been able to get snake to throw the grenade football pass) 2-how do you level up?? I΄ve been level 3 rookie forever , and although I get owned at times, trust me, Im no noob. I seem to be getting reward points, but no level up. (I finally removed that stupid sloth emblem)

1. press the button lightly to throw under hand and press hard to throw overhand. Also just incase you didn't know, when lying on your back press the R3/right analog stick so switch throwing the grenade from behind or infront of you. 2. Not to sure I was on lvl 6 when I stopped playing mgo, think it's to do with how good your stats are. |

the rookie thingy huh?i believe what your talking about is from playing survival,i don't know how m uch it increases or decreases per game but i do know that if you do poorly or just okay than you won't get any points for that or you will loose some even if you win,it all depends on how good you do by yourself, kills, stuns, points, ect. |
