Anyway as some of you know I am a nanny for 4 children one is 5 and goes to camp all day the others are triplets. They are a year old.

So the 5 year olds camp called their mother and told them that they think she has chicken pox!! Another kid at her camp had it. So now. On this monday that the triplets are sick and I am sick now she is sick too. After she is done at the doctors she is coming back home with me. Now my job is to keep her away from her little brothers. This could be very hard. She is always playing with them and such stuff.

She will also be demanding my attention to play and stuff. Honestly I don't think I could play anything right now. My head and throat kills.

So I know that there are few of you whom have children because we are mostly a younger adult forum so far. You may have had little siblings that had chicken pox that you remember about.

My question is.
What can I do for her. How can I keep the other children from getting it as best I can.
What can I do to keep her distracted?

Now I'm off to search the internet for some facts. If you do know anything please please let me know.
I am begging of you.
Anyone who has nothing better to do and feels like helping, if you could find some websites as well that would be a great help.

Today is going to be the longest monday evah...
Thanx for reading guys.

As far as I know it's pretty contagious; I'd say keep her in a different room from the triplets and don't let them touch each other. And I'd be washing my hands, like, all the time if I was having to touch her.

Have you had it before yourself?

Yes I have. But I only have like a small amount. They say if you have over 30 your good. But I had only a little over 30. I'm slightly worried. Shit. If I get them we are fucked. I mean when your a kid it's not so bad
but when your an adult. It's horrible. So I am told.
I'm freaked out now.
And this shit has to happen the week my sister comes. Meaning we will have a 5 year old up in our faces all week. I mean It's not like your confined to your bed when you have chickenpox.

I'm more htinking about what I'm gonna get her to do all day.

Watch TV
Watch a movie.
Draw?
These things only last so long.
Can I keep her in bed.
The internet is failing me.
It just talks about chickenpox and what it is.
I need to find a site with a what to do for your child when ....
and how to keep your chickenpox child busy and away from brothers and sisters kinda stuff...
I am having zero luck.

Like 30... pocks? I'd have thought that if you've had it then you're pretty much immune afterwards; I've never heard of actually counting the marks. If you're a bit worried then wear gloves and make sure she doesn't cough on you or anything.

I dunno a whole lot about keeping children occupied, to be honest; I'm sure you know more about it that I do. I'd be sticking with the TV/movies/drawing ideas; anything that you can leave her with and'll keep her occupied.

Yeah I guess I'll use the 'go read a book' thing. My mother always did that to me and I hated it. It works tho. that and 'well find something to do or I can find some cleaning for you to do.'

We have hand sanitizer. I will break that stuff out. I'm more worried about the other children then myself. If they get it....toddlers....3 of them...It's gonna be a long month.

So far I have found that....

"Chickenpox is spread in fine droplets of moisture, which contain the virus. The droplets are produced when the infected person coughs or sneezes, another person then inhales these droplets and may become infected. It can also be spread by direct contact with an infected person."

and

"Chickenpox is contagious from about 2 days before the rash appears and lasts until all the blisters are crusted over. A child with chickenpox should be kept out of school until all blisters have dried, usually about 1 week."

Meaning that's a long ass time. for everyone. I have a bad bad bad feeling the other children will get it too. But not right away. After making it a long long long painful month.

Yuh if you have only a few there is a chance you can get them again. It's happen. I remember the oatmeal baths and mom counting my sisters and mine. Not fun. She got it way worse then me.

I always thought once you got chicken pox when you were young, you'd never get them again. Also, dont they give you a shot to prevent you from getting them? Or am I just thinking of small pox.

To keep her busy you should buy chloroform, and just knock her out ever time she gets bored.
Seriously, Get puzzles, and coloring books and stuff. That should keep her occupied.

And on a side note, although It might suck for them now, I personally feel it'd be better for the triplets to get the chicken pox young, then worry about being older and getting them and it being more serius.

Okay darling, here the skinny on Varicella zoster virus (AKA Chicken Pox!)

It can be contagious 10-14Days before it comes out in the child (The incubation period), but its highly contagious! Although I always tell people to try and make sure all their children get it from the infected one as it is best caught as a child.

However there is very little you can do if you do not wish to catch it from a child that you are minding!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The infected child MUST be kept FAR away from pregnant or elderly people! If you yourself have had Chicken Pox before then exposre to it again can reactive the virus in its second form, as shingles which in a younger person is very painful but sufferable, in some it can cause perminate damage to nerve-endings. The WORST EVER place you can get it is over the face, normally covering ONE eye, which it can do perminate damage to.

The VZV Virus will attack first as 'Chicken Pox' then Reactivate later in life as Shingles, I do not recall you saying you had it once before - please let me know darling.

Treatment!

Well, either lots of Calamine or even better Lacto-Calamine (non-whiteing and less drying) and Anti-histamines (Normally sold as hayfever medicine!).

You said the child was Five years old, well, if s/he TAKES NO OTHER MEDICINE and has NO OTHER CONDITIONS, you can give him/her the Antihistamine Syrup called chlorpheniramine Also sold as the brand name Piriton (I am sure these are sold over there in America and Canada.

It is perfectly licensed for use for a child of that age and will stop the itching and reactions quite quickly. Also try to keep the child cool, heat makes it FAR worse!

I hope this helps, please let me know dear.

:)

Also remember that the web is probably the best resource if you need tips or advice on practically everything.
