Im just curious what you guy think of this. Who is the better joker. They both portrayed the Joker great but they were completely different. I personally think Heath portrayed him better. He got the completley insane aspect going for him and he was perfect for the job. He was also pretty funny (the kind of funny your not supposed to laugh at but you do anyways but like an hour later you feel like an ass for doing it) So what do you think? |

Nicholson was great, his performance entertains me. Ledger's Joker makes me think of the Joker that I've been reading for around 15 years (well, to be fair the first three or four of those were more "looking at the pictures" considering I was 3 when I first got a Batman comic) so I consider his to be the superior Joker. |

As far as the movies, definitely Ledger, though when I think of the Joker I think of Mark Hamill. |

i like both but Ledger's Joker was more true to the character. Jack's Joker was more towards the clown side of things where Ledger's Joker show his true criminal genious. Ledger's joker was better for me, but both are great |

Mark Hamill > Heath Ledger > Jack Nicholson. The reasoning being that Ledger was, in my opinion, closer to the Joker of the Batman comics than Nicholson. The '89 Joker was just Jack Nicholson acting like Jack Nicholson dressed like a clown. But what people forget is that a good character needs more than a good actor, like a good script and a good director. Ledger had both of these things backing him up. Burton's a real shark when it comes to gothic, weird fantasy tales, but Batman wasn't made for him. Batman and Batman Returns are good, but Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are superior to both of them. I don't share the popular sentiment that Ledger is utterly irreplaceable as the Joker. There are an abundance of talented young actors out there who, I believe, would have done just as good or better (and still could). I wouldn't personally mind another actor continuing the role, but.. The people's tendency to remember the dead in the brightest light possible is likely going to demand another reboot of the Batman movie franchise to use the Joker again (and seeing as how Ledger was almost panned before he even began in the role for not being Jack Nicholson, it would also have to be after many years). The actor to continue the part now, no matter how talented, would have to face endless comparison to the dead guy. And you simply can't be better when compared to the dead; they don't have to strive to prove themselves better anymore. Edited by A-Yty, Aug 8 2008, 12:00 PM.

Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was better then Nicholsons. I pretty much firmly agree with Helikaon here. Jack was just Jack in make up, like A-Yty here said, and Ledger was the real Joker. |

Ledger made his character less comical and more deranged like his original character, more so than Nicholsen did in Batman. So Legder for me. |

In terms of acting it would have to be Jack Nicholson. I thought he played a really good part. However, everyone who has read all the comics and shit say Ledger portrays the 'real' Joker better so whatever, I don't really know nor care .

I far prefered Ledger's version. He had a funny, scary, and utterly haunting presence on screen. Now don't get my wrong, Nicholson terrified my as a child, but as most have said, he is just his 'Departed' character (Jack Nicholson) in make up. Nicholson 'acted' as the Joker, where as Ledger 'embraced' the Joker. |

Nicholson was great, but Heath was the best. His portrayal of the Joker was perfect. The darkness to him and edge. Not to mention he was hilarious while at the same time being frightening. Heath ftw.

Nicholson was a great Joker, but Ledger was immense. This Joker is really psychotic, but at the same time he maintains the funny side of his acts. Nicholson's Joker was too clowny. |

Why is this not a poll? :| Buuuutttt... Ledger, definitely. He played an amazing, deep, twisted masochist. Also, having people whisper one of his many monologues in your ear during sex or before sex or just whenever is a horrifically awesome turn on. "My father... was a drinker... and a fiend." "nnnhfuckyeskeepgoing." Seriously. I almost creamed myself watching The Dark Knight whenever the Joker was involved... whereas, Nicholson, while an awesome actor himself, just kinda did a goofy... decently memorable performance. |
