Lethal Weapon 5; "I'm too old for this shit!"

I'm the bit where Tarantino's dick turns into The Thing

Right now, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are rolling around in separate beds half-asleep mumbling, “We’re too old for this shit.” Let’s hope their co-stars Chris Rock, Joe Pesci and Jet Li are mumbling the exact same sentence tomorrow when they’re fully awake. It’s being reported by TrackingB that legendary screenwriter, Shane Black, has written a script for Lethal Weapon 5 and handed it over to his friend, the franchise’s producer Joel Silver. Moreover, the guys pictured above are said to be interested in reprising their roles as LAPD badges Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. Coming Soon posted the following logline…

This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

No further info was made available. Some readers will take issue with the adjective “legendary” used above but seeing that Black’s influence on the action genre, which dates back to 1987’s Lethal Weapon, remains obvious with this weekend’s Pineapple Express, why? From my standpoint, Seth Rogen’s pot vehicle would have been the action-comedy masterpiece some feel it is (CHUD says Oscar-bait no less!?) with Black’s involvement. For example: imagine memorable, superior one-liners rather than Axl Rose lyrics yelled mid-brawl in 2008. A bloodied Danny McBride meets The Last Boy Scout? Now, that’s a neverending breakfast conversation I’d pay to see three times.

The fourth Lethal Weapon film was released 10 years ago and managed to gross $128 million domestically. One could forsee Richard Donner returning as the director, since he helmed the prior four pictures and has a film on the burner entitled Sam and George with Gibson.

Hmm. This could be good, but also bad.
I liked the other movies, but the 4th seemed like the end of the line. Wasn't Roger about 55 in 4? And Riigs about 45?

Hmm. I just checked their age. Glover is 62 and Gibson is 52. Not as old as I thought.

Anyway, yeah I don't care how old they are, but if they're up for a LW5 then so be it. All the others were great, I have the box set etc.... what about the gaps for Indiana Jones etc, and I am sure there are other film franchises that have done the same thing and been successful.

What the hell is this, Decade of the Franchises Previously Declared Dead?

T4 is tolerable, since it's the neginning of a whole new franchise instead of a pathetic lukewarm copy of the previous movie like T3.

Indy 4 was utter shit.

Haven't even watched Die Hard 4, but without a whole "Yippi-kay-ee motherfucker" it can only fail.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is going to be utter shit.

Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 were all right. But Rocky 5 being the piece of shit it was made it impossible for the next one to be worse and Rambo 4 could only be taken as the self-serving return to the macho bullshit of the action movies of the mid-80's and early 90's. It was so over the top it went from bad to became a decent movie of its genre (asskicking, gut-ripping cartoony violence).

- So, is it true? Was Big Boss really your father?
- That's what he said. That's all I know.
- And you were able to kill him, knowing that?
- Yup.
- How?
- He wanted it. Besides, some people just need killing...

No, wait..scratch that.
..This is good, isn't it?

Haha, this made me laugh.

I would be so up for a LW5. I loved the others, the mix of action, badassness and cornyness was genius - I so hope this turns out to be as good as the previous films.

ROWDY NO.

To be honest, I haven't seen any of the other movies, but it couldn't be too bad with Shane Black on board. I'd watch it. ^_^

Never seen a Lethal Weapon movie??? :o
I've been watching em since I was in diaper's. That's the only way I knew who Shane Black was. Other then that and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I've no clue what he has done.

I only really know Shane Black from his role (Pancho) in Predator, rather than his outstanding directorial/screen writing career. Until very recently I didn't realize that they were the same guy.

Oh lord, I have all the Lethal Weapon movies, Mel Gibson is one of my faves, and I certainly hope they make a 5th one..(I have been saying this since Die Hard 4 came out). If they do I hope it will be a good one.
