So I figured we need a thread to talk about indie rock/pop... baroque rock, new wave, etc. etc. There's a hell of a lot of it out there, but loads of it's under-the-radar, so get recommending. ^_^

S'pose my favourites are Broken Social Scene, Metric and Los Campesinos!, but I'm partial to a bit of Franz Ferdinand (mostly 'cause they're Scottish) and The Killers.

Bah, I always get confused about what is defined as 'indie music' but while were on the subject of Scottish bands, The Fratellis are good.

Oh, hello. What's this? ^_^

Indie music is kind of my, erm, speciality.

Right, links then.

The Corrections - simply awesome.
Elbow - you'll like these, Alex, I think.
The Flaws - New wave-y goodness from Oireland.
Grammatics - Lots of good stuff going on here.
Puressence - Awesomeness on a stick.
Wolf Parade - Canadian keyboard-heavy 70s craziness
Fleet Foxes - Baroque-pop anyone?

Ok, I should stop.

And Idlewild. :P

They're more alternative than indie, I'd say. It's kind of hard to define without examples.

@Occy: Nice! I'll get right on it when I'm finished listening to Inara George... who's only indie in the sense that it's completely different. >_>

I don't fucking GET the classification of indie rock TBH.

I'd say, to be properly indie, you have to have your music released on an independent record label, hence the name/

I reckon it needs a sense of fun, but I s'pose that's not necessarily true. Actually, that's rubbish now I think about it. Indie pop's pretty chirpy, I s'pose.

And new Los Campesinos! album in October? Heard any of it yet?

Not a fan of the term, but I suppose I like a lot of music that is considered indie.
Bishop Allen, Wolf Parade, Vampire Weekend, Destroyer, Oh No! Oh My!, etc. A lot more really.

Well, the tracklisting's been announced (check le MySpace), but we haven't been told what the first single is or anything of that sort, so I haven't heard anything as of yet.

I just saw that you like Wolf Parade, Prov. +1 for you.

Nice. I got Sticking Fingers Into Sockets for £1.99 in town but left it at a mate's and haven't been able to pick it up yet. >_<

@Prov: I've only heard 'Oxford Comma' from Vampire Weekend; is it all much the same style?

Well, yeah, their album ('Vampire Weekend') is pretty similar to that IMO. Still a good listen though. There are some right tunes on there, such as 'Walcott' and 'I Stand Corrected'.

Did you check out some of my recommendations, Alex?

I listened to a bit of The Corrections (downloaded OCD off their myspace; I think you've played me that before) and Fleet Foxes (downloaded White Winter Hymnal). Now trying some Wolf Parade 'cause Canadians do the best indie, I reckon.

Metric are Canadian aren't they? I'll have a listen then.

So are Broken Social Scene, but I already knew that.

@ Corrections: Yeah, I linked the OCD video in Dead Cell chat. Album's out in September, after a whole load of delays. I am so excited!! ^_^

Nice, I agree about 'Walcott' and 'I Stand Corrected' being highlight tracks.. something about the entire album intrigues me though. It's not necessarily amazing and their recent mainstream attention puzzles me a bit, but it's a solid record. Great for bright mornings, warm coffee, and a cigarette.. generally puts me in a good mood.

And yeah man, I love Wolf Parade's more recent album.. excellent shit, psychedelic/retro and ultimately jams. Ahh, and 'Kissing the Beehive' gives me chills every time.

Kissing The Beehive is seriously good stuff.

Have you heard "Apologies To The Queen Mary", their debut?

A mate recommened 'The Whigs' to me a while ago. 'Mission Control' was out just a while ago and it's pretty good i must say.
I've been meaning to listen to 'The Flaws' for a good while now, better get started on that :P

Yes, you'd better. :P

Anyways, new Bloc Party album out Thursday.

Yes, you read that right.

Thursday, at 9am GMT.

The tracklisting, for anyone who's interested, is as follows:

Ares
Mercury
Halo
Biko
Trojan Horse
Signs
One Month Off
Zephyrus
Better Than Heaven
Ion Square (Matt Tong said that it would take him three weeks of solid drumming to learn this for their live shows. I still can't my head around how AWESOME this will sound.)

So finally got my Los Campesinos! EP, and it's awesome. Can't believe they've got a new album out in October - really soon after their first one.

@Occy: How does Weekend in the City compare to Silent Alarm, d'you reckon?

I love both albums, but Silent Alarm is just in ANOTHER LEAGUE.

A lot more slower-paced songs on Weekend. It's still a brilliant album though.

Trojan Horse.

One word: Wow.
