End Game Item Carry-over?; Item from previous game not in new game.

Did I miss something here? I beat the game on Solid Normal...went through all the cut scenes and all the credits. It finally showed me all the items (weapons/camo) that I unlocked, afterwhich I saved the game.

I started my new game, and I don't have any of that?? I got to the point when I meet up with the Mk II, and it only gave me the standard items.

What about the face-camo, rail gun and mantis doll?? Do I get those later, or did I not do something right?

Did you load you saved game to start a new game?

Edit: I think someone should pin a topic like this because it seems like many people can't figure it out, eventhough it has been that way since the first MGS...

Well you need to load up your completion file and start a new game from there.

That's not very intuitive though "load a game to start a new game" I figured it just read my old save data when making a new game...they don't make it very clear as to what you're supposed to do.

I'm halfway through Act II now...trying to decide if I should just start again to get all my stuff back...

It would make no sense that you would get your items in a brand new game. How would the game then know that you had completed it once before?

I figured it recognized old save files....no reason why it couldn't do that...

I'm only guessing, but could it be, that you've started a new game in another difficulty?

I did the game in Solid Normal and then I went for a Big Boss Hard run, and I didn't get the stuff aswell when I met up with the Mk. II. I figured it was because of the difficulty change.

If you would read the posts before posting you would know that he already knows what went wrong.

Just listen to jonhou. He's right. ALL MGS games are the same as far as carrying over weapons and items from previously saved files. You can't go to "New Game" and expect your items to carry over; you must go to "Load Game" and load the completed game file.

That's the answer to all your problems.

Edit: Also, it doesn't matter if you change the difficulty or not, as long as you load the file that's already completed you can play on whatever difficult you want with the same weapons and items you unlocked/found in your last play through.

Why do you think they ask you to save your completed game once you're done? So you can save everything you've gathered on that file and use it again on your next run. But naturally you have to load up the file which you've gathered your stash on.

Dude, almost all games will start from scratch when you select New Game. Do you know why? Cause it's a NEW game.

What if you wanted to play MGS4 from scratch? Would that be possible with your logic? No, cause everytime you select new game, it carries over previous weapons and items. See my point?

Surely you don't need THAT fed in with a teaspoon? It clearly says in the manual that Loading a game will let you continue from a saved checkpoint. Well...ta-da!

No, it's because you made the same mistake. You started a brand new game instead of loading your old run and carry over the items. Changing the difficulty doesn't remove your collected items.

Sorry, I did in fact read the posts, but clearly I missed something. Thanks for the help though, sure wish I knew that before I got this far in my second run.
