Fetish for you.

The plot was great, however it really started to lose itself towards the end and not straighten things out. Kojima made it convoluted by the end. It was actually not that hard to see that it was just the exact same thing as mgs1 in terms of characters relationships etc. Overall i was a little bit put off and disappointed with how it turned out. It would've been so much better for me if they balanced it out a little bit more. I had to play it 3 times i think just to get everything down. Snake eaters plot was simple but the ending wasnt something i expected. I only noticed why The boss said "I didnt" when asked why she defected once the conclusion came. Mgs4 was inbetween. It wasnt too confusing, nothing a 2nd playthrough wouldnt clear up, but didnt suffer from a poor ending. I dont know which ones better overall now :S Its between 3 and 4. I'll have to play them both again. |

Back on topic rather than the flaming. MGS2 did have it moments, but i dont know, for me it didnt seem that good, it didnt compare to the other MGS's story line, i guess i didnt like the big shell setting |

should be doing something else right about now.
|
After playing the 1st game and then completing the second one after the other, the occurances in MGS2 now seem somewhat insane when compared to the 1st games more modest plot. |

Sons of Liberty was the best storyline imo by far. The thought alone of a secret society that has all the control over America is extremely unique and intriguing. And a lot of it is based off historical documents and real conspiracy theories which make it that much better.. I agree with the op though, it wasnt put together as well as it couldve been. Its like all of sudden we're bombarded with all these new twists and turns all at once, which definitely made it hard to follow.. but its by far the best storyline b/t 1,2,&3.... i havent played mgs4 yet so i dont know but it could only get better from there. I didnt get sucked into the game as much as the other ones though, but that probably had more to do with playing raidens role then anything else. The other mgs games, and even the tanker chapter in mgs2 have a way of making you feel like youre actually there experiencing it.. i didnt get that in the plant chapter though.. |

Sons of Liberty is very intriguing on a philosophical and political level and stands well not only on its own, but as a paradigm from which to add to your understanding of the rest of the series. |

I agree with kappy, MGS:SOL has the best storyline...well their all great but like kappy said, it's the only one that made you feel like you were actually there...id be playing for hours and out of nowhere id realize it was only a game.... ....i dont know, i guess i connected more with the SOL characters than the MGS ones, because they showed more civilian like qualities....and i love those raiden moments "We've managed to avoid DROWNING!"....

I think that viewing the story as less isolated makes it all around deeper and more interesting. I.E., connecting all of the games and observing the variables, archetypes, points of commentary made in each and how they relate, etcetera. |

Yeah I would have to say that this is my favourite plot of the MGS games. I like how you get drawn into one thing then boom, Kojima slaps you in the face with something else lol. |

I didn't like much the plot of MGS2.... Though admittedly, it was the first game of the saga I ever played, and I didn't understand much of what they were speaking about; it was all so very confusing to me. Now that much time has passed and I became a fan of the saga and I know the plot of ALL the canon Metal Gear games, well.... I still believe MGS2 had the worst plot and the worst character. I thought Solidus was ridiculous; Ocelot's magic hand was an awful idea (thank you, MGS4, for finally giving a cool meaning to it); I didn't like Raiden at all; I didn't care about the various boss fights; etc. I also think that, for a plot, "more convoluted" does NOT necessarily mean "better". But it's a matter of tastes. If some people think MGS2 is their favorite, even after playing the other games, then it means it wasn't so bad. |

Was it that bad, according to you? Well, what did you expect from MGS2 when you first bought it? So far I know, probably everybody liked how MGS2 ended up...For the first time, a videogame could be asociated with real life...Like Snakes speech to Raiden, and when Raiden and Rose talks to each other, in the final cutscene in Manhattan...That actually made some sense! You never get to see a similar speech like that in another videogame, not ever! Here, watch these cutscenes and decide for yourself, if these aren't one the greatest videogame cutscenes you've ever seen... Click Here! 1st cutscene ...And here! 2nd cutscene |

No need to link me to those scenes, because you know, I have the actual game. XD Well, what can I say. I didn't like MGS2 and I found that the other games of the saga touched my emotional strings a lot more. MGS2 was just confused and pretentious, to me. But it's MY view of that game. I just assume the strings that MGS2's plot touches are simply not my own. |

I agree, it get's complicated after the second half of the game. Allround I thought the plot in Sons of Liberty was excellent. I think all the games have their emotional moments.
For me that just proves that it all comes down to the fact that it's just a matter of different opinions really. Sons of Liberty had a complicated plot but I loved it. |

I think that if you don't play MGS first, before MGS2, you won't experience the game for how brilliant is, and you won't really get into the story enough. After learning so much about Solid Snake, and seeing who he is and how great a soldier he is, you play as, well basically a rookie compared to Snake, which really got me into it, especially with the man himself helping you. I agree with you, Nathan, if you're new to the MGS-games, you're suppose to play MG, MG2 and MGS1 before you start to play Sons of Liberty or Snake Eater... That's one the best things with the MGS-games, they have great storylines... Edited by The Protagonist, Sep 14 2008, 01:55 PM.

As for whether the story in any particular MGS game is better than the others, it's all down to personal opinion, of which everyone has their own. |

Well that's your view. But they are all different games with different stories, and are all connected, they aren't just 1 story really. They are connected with one story, but they are not 1 story. They all have different stories, and are very all unique, and brilliant. Also, MGS was planned to be the only game of the series. Then, MGS2 was supposed to finish it. Then, MGS3 was supposed to be the last game in the MGS series (although there was no way that it could have ended with it.) And then MGS4 ended it and tied it all together. |
