There's more than one 'unknown forces' that rule the world these days. One would be God and the other 'The Patriots'. Everything and everyone is manipulated for years and I am not talking only about people but for whole governments and countries. Ideologies, nations, religion... everything. When someone gets power in his hands he will keep it by any means necessary. Do you believe that you do whatever you like in this world? Free will that everyone is talking about? If this was indeed true we would live in a world of chaos. Someone has to control things. We get 'controlled' by the cops, they get by the government, the government gets by someone else and so on. And that's on the small scale. The wold economy is something very critical now days to just divide it and leave it in the hands of each single government. The same goes for world order and control. Everything that happens these days has a purpose greater than we can understand or even imagine. From wars to terrorist attacks and even financial crisis's.
