Well I just went to IGN to check on something when I saw that there was a top article saying that Halo 4 will possibly be coming out and headlining the 720.
I find this funny because
1. They said Halo3 was going to be the last.
2. A lot of 360 fan's said that Halo 3 was not the selling point, while Halo 4 looks like it will be a 720 selling point. And 3, The halo franchise is very mediocre and blown way out of proportion.(that's just my point of view  )

Here's the article:

...and the hype machine keeps on rollin'. I thought this was a joke when I saw this topic. Much to my dismay...

I really have this horrible feeling that i'm going to be seeing shit about this all over the internet for the next few years before the next console comes out.

Question: Have the current-gen consoles truly reached the pinnacle of their capabilities? I'm not convinced and I feel insulted that some companies are already looking forward to the next-gen consoles... it's unfortunate that consumers will be stupid enough to shell out even more cash for the next wave of machines that will probably only offer a miniscule upgrade.

Well from what I've heard, Sony has a 10 year plan for the ps3, much like it did for the ps2(which you could drastically tell the differences between the later games and the first games on the system). Hopefully they stick to the 10 year plan and don't feel like they need to release the ps4 just to keep up with the 720.

Well as a proud owner of PS3 and Xbox 360. Its not that far fetched. Sony has a 10 year cycle but that dosen't necessarily mean there won't be another console before then. The Xbox 360 is coming up on four years next fall.
So in the usual 5 year cycle, its almost time for a new one. Also Halo is in the same situation as Metal Gear.
Halo 3 wasn't the last Halo, just the last for master chief. You finished his fight. Also releasing the Xbox 360 first worked well for Microsoft. I can see them doing it again. Every Generation has a new SKU in it, for instance this one was motion control and HD GAMING(WOAH-sarcasm). The truth is though every generation the consoles turn more and more into computers, so it really doesn't matter. To add though I don't want games besides the madden series to look like reality, because I have reality its outside.

what's there left for Halo? the Covenant are mostly if not all dead and Gravemind and the Flood died too I think. Then again I did hear him say something like blowing up The Ark would only slow the Flood. :hmm: Well We also know they're other spartans and Arbiter too. Is Halo 4 going to be Halo Wars?

No halo wars is a RTS developed by Relic. Halo 4 is rumored to be developed by Gearbox. Also the Writing lead Frankie left bungie to go to Microsoft. So story wise it should be fine. It could be the Spartans from Ghosts Of Onyx(yes, unfortunately I read the books) finding master chiefs beacon and they land on that planet the chief was above.

Halo is probably the most mediocre FPS ever. The only reason people still play it was because the first one was good for it's time, and it made fanboys.

i gave into the hype when halo 1 first came out. i wasnt really that impressed. seemed like i was running down the same halls and shooting the same monsters for hours

but despite not living up to the hype of it being the greatest thing since chuck norris i still went out and bought halo 2. i felt like i was playing the exact game over again except now i could use 2 small hand guns at the same time. YA! that'll help!. levels that looked the same the whole way through and shooting at the same monsters the whole time. i guess i should have just replayed 1. i definatly wasnt even excited enough to even bother to go online

Yes, that's a spring roll.

Guys, Halo 3 was certainly the end of that particular story arc. They're making far too much money to stop now. Master Chief was one of many Spartans, they can have stories set before the first Halo, thousands of years in the future, alternate timelines, etc. And then there's the spinoffs, like Halo Wars, I'm sure there'll be plenty of them.

Like they did with the 360 just so it would sound bigger than Xbox 2?

@Black King: My only experience with Halo 3 is when I played for like a total of 8 hours spread within a month when I went over too my friends house and there was nothing else to play. So I dont know how it ended. (Hell I dont think he ever beat it himself, went straight to MP when he got it and we only played like 50% of the story.)
Although I do admit I beat the first two in co-op with him.

I hate microsoft with a passion for the whole Exclusive DLC for GTA4 and Fall out 3. I can understand exclusive games, but if you're going to make multiplatform games you need to make them even.

If Microsoft can pull the next one off right it'll be the Dreamcast done right and probably the greatest move of console history, considering the circumstances and what has come before it. Also the name 360 is purely a marketing tool so when a naive consumer walks in to buy a console they look at the PS3 and then sees the 360, the 3 will be in the name. So to them its like "they're both the same but this one is cheaper." Also considering that the 360 is now the cheapest console(well as of the 6th) its the PS2 of this era. Sure the Xbox was more powerful but the PS2 had a better install base(games and the success of the last one). Thats the exact thing we are seeing this generation. So if MS can break the cycle where the next one fails then it will set up maybe even a domination rivaling the "Nintendo" Era.

The 60gig 360 is only like 50 dollars cheaper than the 80gig ps3 . You're not saving much if you like HD space.
