After you beat Raven in his tank, he starts speaking to who is obvioulsly Ocelot but calls him "General Ivan". Whats up with that? Could it be thats his real name or not?

it could have been a nickname or some kinda of joke toward ocelot when raven said that, general ivan was probably another person that ran away from a fight or something that may have been widely known to an extent and raven made fun of ocelot by calling him that since ocelot ran away from snake and fox

I think he called him Ivan because it is a very common Russian name as a kinda way to tease Ocelot. It isn't Ocelots real name, because we know it is Adamska (Russian)/Adam (Western)

Feck off!

Ivan is commonly used in Western media as a derogative name for Russian characters as it is a stereotypical Russian name and has rather negative connotations due to the history of the name, that being Ivan the Terrible. Raven was mocking Ocelot because he lost to Snake and ran away from him, thus calling him a coward.

Maybe a reference to Raikov from MGS3? Calling him a bi sexual tart who wairs thongs?

As MGS3 was made after, and Kojima didn't plan that far, I doubt it.

Yes, I think it was derogative, that's certainly not Ocelot's real name.

As much time and effort as Metal Gear Solid alone took him, there's no way in hell that he did.

"Ivan" Was indeed a typycial Russian name, but I think it's a referance to Ivan the Terrible. Or he could be reffering as to what American's called some Russians, thus mocking Ocelot nationallity

Yeah, nice point.

In any case, Raven definitely did not seem to care much for Ocelot. There was some animosity between them noticeable in what little time we see them speak. They had some of what seemed to be mutual bigotry occurring, though it may have gone deeper than that.

Yeah, he got that title when he became feared in a particular conflict, if I recall correctly. The DB should have more details, but I don't have it handy.

It could't be his real name, in MGS3, Ocelot states his name is Shalashaska.

Err no he didn't, he hadn't earned the nickname yet. He earned "Shalashaska" during the Afghan-Soviet War in the 80's, he was known and feared amongst the Mujahadeen for his skills in torture. He revealed his born name in Snake Eater (ADAM/Adamska) but he certainly never mentioned Shalashaska during the game and if he did, that's a serous fuck up on Kojima's part.

No, he never mentions being known as "Shalashaska" in Snake Eater. He only talks of his code name and his real name (Adam/Adamska, as indicated above).

No kidding. I've been through that game many times and never heard it, though.

Just for mentioning sake, it could be possible that "Adamska Ivan" is his full name.

Though I have no way of accessing the Database and find anything to back that up.

He does mention the name. Just before he tortures Snake, he says 'In the West, I was known and feared as Shalashaska'.
