So to speak, The Big Boss emblem is the highest rank you can recieve, so i imagine they would give you a challenge before you gain the right to brag about your ranking. In other words yes.

I never really bothered with this on MGS1 but did on the following games, espacially my favourite. I also like the idea of the Big Boss rank unlocking things! (I still love my infinity facepaint!) ^^

I don't know if anyone has ever tried to meet the conditions for the Big Boss rank with more than 80 saves.
