I played this game again, finished it earlier. Just reinforced my opinion that it's a great game. But the whole Elisa and Ursula originally being one personality pissed me off no end though. I'm still not entirely sure what is going on there. I'm fairly sure it was one child was exposed to the nuclear fall out. Then during power augmentation split in to two personalities AND two separate people. But slight traces of the opposite 'twins' personality resides in the other. Which is why Gene is able to awaken Ursula when it's Elisa. But it could be two personalities and ONE person. And Gene can awaken the other personality when he wants. Plus I can't remember both of them being in the same scene together. I'm still confused to be honest. |

If they were two seperate people, and Gene awakened Ursula in Elisa, what happened to the original Ursula? Pointless questions I know but I need them answered damn it. |

I believe that's it. whenever elisa was near and Gene wanted Ursula to fight he used that voice power he had to awaken her. After all Ursula was piloting RAXXA but after Big boss defeats it he yells for Elisa to get out. Gene then says he's impressed because he didn't think Snake could defeat RAXXA with Ursula at the controlls but the cutscene shows only one person. Elisa has a different personality insider her named Ursula. Their not two different people.

they were once one in the same, but they split the personalities, gene can awaken ursula, but usually elissa is in control, she has weaker psychic powers, but has better emotions, so to speak |

I found PO to be a good game and story. I'll admit the recruiting was weird but still a good game. |

Here's my review of Portable Ops. Gameplay, decent enough. Not as fun as any of the MGS games, but the boss fights are rather enjoyable, especially Gene and Python. Online, not as good as Subsistence, still very good, fun to use all the uniques and new characters, and it's very addictive, and Capture + is a feature I really hope gets added to MGO. Storyline, very good. I liked MPO+'s story even more than MGS3. Know why? It is essentially a war between Snake and Gene. Foxhound vs FOX. Each side has its' own army. And what's so amazing is that Gene is a product of the Successor project, which in essence, makes Gene the perfect battlefield commander, and still Snake managed to recruit his army to his side. The story showed just how much charisma Snake had, how he got the funds to create Foxhound, how Roy Campbell and Gray Fox came into play in the MGS series. How the Patriots were created, how Ocelot was working with Zero secretly, and how they conspired to get Snake and start the Patriots. It also explained the fate of other characters like Sokolov and Raikov. Characters, kick ass. Honest to God, I loved the roster in MPO more than I did in MGS3 by far. Naked Snake returning, older and wiser. Roy Campbell, from an old commander to a young man, whose funny sometimes and a womanizer with zero luck with the chicks. The characters were really deep this time around. Python's speech gave me chills, Cunningham was a pure monster. Cunningham is basically the Volgin of MPO, only he's black, straight, and missing a leg. Null was great, because of how much he struggled to maintain a grip on himself and in battle, he couldn't control himself, and it was a great touch to the pain of Gray Fox's life. Elisa and Ursela were great, I liked their character around as much as I did Eva. I sort of expected the twist between the two, but it didn't make it any less extraordinary, because the two were really able to connect with Snake, and seeing one aid Gene and FOX and the other aid Snake and Foxhound was great for her character too. And finally Gene. He is one of my favorite villains, period. Charismatic, wise, deadly, and has a message to send. His intentions were for the good of soldiers everywhere, but he goes about it in a villainous matter. I liked him a lot more than The Boss and Volgin by far. Voice Acting, I loved the voice acting in this game a lot more than I expected to. The entire cast did a great job, and I've always been a big fan of Steve Blum, so I was really happy to hear his voice for the main villain. My only gripes with the voice acting was sometimes David Hayter really overdid his Snake voice, but he redeems himself a lot when you see some of the really emotional scenes in the game. Cutscenes, what do you expect? PSP can only handle so much, so be realistic. And plus, even for the comic style cutscenes, they were still pretty cool, and I enjoyed them about as much as I did MGS2 and MGS1 cutscenes. Soundtrack, liked it more than MGS2 and MGS1, because the boss themes and all around music provided was outstanding and well orchestrated. So my overall views on MPO, 9.3/10 Is it a shambles? Well, I think my views are pretty unbiased, but I guess it's all up to you decide you like it or not. But to call such a great addition to the MGS series shambles seems a bit much. |

To be honest I didn't look at it like FOX vs Foxhound. But now that you mention it that's a fantastic point you've made there. And although the recruiting part isn't everyone's favourite part of the game, it is still essential to how Big Boss founded Outer Heaven. A mercenary nation is pointless without soldiers. I personally thought Cunningham wasn't in it enough. To show how sadistic he was. Gene though, again, probably one of the best villains ever. Third only to Liquid Snake and Darth Vader for me (everyone loves the Sith Lord and you know it). His speech is awesome and there isn't any other better in the series. "Soldiers, hear my words!" Who doesn't get chills with that? |

i hated MPO at first...i thought it was slow and boring. there is really no need for stealth in PO unless you REALLY WANT to get foxhound or big boss...and even then its like wow...i wasted all that time for that? + isnt worth its weight in crap, which is why it was priced at only 20 bucks, so to judge it as a full MGS game is pretty low. thats like judging the digital graphic novel as a full game and going "it sucks". but then i grew to like it. the game was designed to be short missions you can do "on the go" and thats how it works. its not meant to be a game you sit down on a couch and waste 20 hrs on, and shouldnt be judged as such. the whole recruiting thing either works for you or it doesnt. i liked the levelling up aspect of the game, and people comparing it to pokemon just made me roll my eyes. and the cutscenes...wow. i guess i just had a predisposed affinity for them since i admire ashley wood's artwork, but to everyone who said they sucked...how could you say that? woods artwork was more finished than anything shinkawa does for character designs but everyone (on here) loves his stuff. I dont think that cg cutscenes would have worked either, because there was no way the faces could have been as animated as they were in MGS3. also it would have taken up so much memory. IMO, MPO works. but i can see where other people would think it doesnt. |

Ashley Wood is a guy? Dude, his parents must have really hated him to name him Ashley, poor guy. I will however admit, the online portion of Portable Ops is definitely something someone could sit on the couch and play when they're bored, single player, I managed on long car rides, but if all else failed, I probably could bare playing like an hour on the couch or bed, either or. Good points though. |
